A series of Ag( i ) and Cu( i ) complexes [Ag 3 (L 1 ) 2 ][PF 6 ] 3 ( 8 ), [Ag 3 (L 2 ) 2 ][PF 6 ] 3 ( 9 ), [Cu(L 1 )][PF 6 ] ( 10 ) and [Cu(L 2 )][PF 6 ] ( 11 ) have been synthesized by reactions of the tridentate amine-bis(N-heterocyclic carbene) ligand precursors [H 2 L 1 ][PF 6 ] 2 ( 6 ) and [H 2 L 2 ][PF 6 ] 2 ( 7 ) with Ag 2 O and Cu 2 O, respectively. Complexes 10 and 11 can also be obtained by transmetalation of 8 and 9 , respectively, with 3.0 equiv. of CuCl. A heterometallic Cu/Ag–NHC complex [Cu 2 Ag(L 1 ) 2 (CH 3 CN) 2 ][PF 6 ] 3 ( 12 ) is formed by the reaction of 8 with 2.0 equiv. of CuCl. All complexes have been characterized by NMR, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The luminescence properties of 10–12 in solution and the solid state have been studied. At room temperature, 10–12 exhibit evident luminescence in solution and the solid state. The emission wavelengths are found to be identical at 483 nm in CH 3 CN, but they are 484, 480 and 592 nm in the solid state for 10–12 , respectively. These results suggest that 12 dissociates into two molecules of 10 and Ag( i ) ions in solution. Complex 12 is the first luminescent heterometallic Cu/Ag–NHC complex.

A cyanide-bridged wheel featuring a seven-coordinate Mo( iii ) center
A new cyclic molecule incorporating [Mo III (CN) 7 ] 4− has been characterized by single crystal X-ray methods, SQUID magnetometry and theoretical calculations. The wheel molecule [Mo III (CN) 7 ] 6 [Ni(L)] 12 (H 2 O) 6 exhibits ferromagnetic Mo–Ni coupling which did not exist for the previously reported octacyanometallate analogue [Mo IV (CN) 8 ] 6 [Ni(L)] 12 (H 2 O) 6 . These results indicate that known supramolecular architectures incorporating octacyanometallates can be used as platforms for making new molecules incorporating seven-coordinate cyanide precursors.

Four new three-dimensional (3-D) coordination frameworks based on the heptacyanomolybdate( iii ) anion were prepared and characterised by magnetic measurements: {[Mn II (imH) 2 ] 2 [Mn II (H 2 O)(imH) 3 ][Mn II (imH) 4 ] [Mo III (CN) 7 ] 2 ·6H 2 O} n ( 1 ) (imH = imidazole), {[Mn II (H 2 O) 2 (imH)] 3 [Mn II (H 2 O)(imH) 2 ][Mo III (CN) 7 ] 2 ·5H 2 O} n ( 2 ), {[Mn II (Htrz)(H 2 O) 2 ][Mn II (Htrz) 0.7 (H 2 O) 2.3 ][Mo III (CN) 7 ]·5.6H 2 O} n ( 3 ) (Htrz = 1,2,4-triazole) and {[Mn II (H 2 O) 2 ] 3 [Mn II (H 2 O) 4 ][Mo III (CN) 7 ] 2 ·6H 2 O·2urea} n ( 4 ). All four compounds exhibit long-range ferrimagnetic ordering and exhibit an opening of their magnetic hysteresis loops at 1.8 K; 1 and 2 exhibit the highest coercive fields among all known [Mo III (CN) 7 ]-based assemblies, 5000 and 4500 Oe respectively. The coercivity of 1–4 is correlated with the geometry of the heptacyanomolybdate( iii ) anion and the cyanide bridging pattern. A paramagnetic analogue of compound 1 , {[Mn II (imH) 2 ] 2 [Mn II (H 2 O)(imH) 3 ][Mn II (imH) 4 ][Re III (CN) 7 ] 2 ·6H 2 O} n ( 1Re ), where the heptacyanomolybdate( iii ) anion is substituted by the diamagnetic heptacyanorhenate( iii ) anion is also reported which constitutes the first example of a coordination framework based on [Re III (CN) 7 ] 4− .more » « less

Abstract Early JWST photometric studies discovered a population of UV-faint ( )z ∼ 6.5–8 Lyman break galaxies with spectral energy distributions implying young ages (∼10 Myr) yet relatively weak Hβ+ [Oiii] equivalent widths (EWHβ+ [Oiii] ≈ 400 Å). These galaxies seemingly contradict the implicit understanding that young star-forming galaxies are ubiquitously strong Hβ+ [Oiii] emitters, i.e., extreme emission line galaxies (EW ≳750 Å). Low metallicities, high Lyman continuum escape fractions, and rapidly declining star formation histories have been proposed as primary drivers behind low Hβ+ [Oiii] EWs, but the blend of Hβ+ [Oiii] in photometric studies makes proving one of these scenarios difficult. We aim to characterize this peculiar population with deep spectroscopy from the JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey. We find that a significant subset of these galaxies atz ≳ 2 with modest Hβ+ [Oiii] EWs (≈300–600 Å) have high ionization efficiencies ( ). Suppressed [Oiii] EW values yet elevated Hαand HβEW values imply that the level of chemical enrichment is the primary culprit, supported by spectroscopic measurements of metallicities below 12 + log(O/H) ≈ 7.70 (0.1Z⊙). We demonstrate that integrated Hβ+ [Oiii] selections (e.g., Hβ+ [Oiii] EW > 700 Å) exclude the most metal-poor efficient ionizers and favor (1) more chemically enriched systems with comparable extreme radiation fields and (2) older starbursting systems. In contrast, metallicity degeneracies are reduced in Hαspace, enabling the identification of these metal-poor efficient ionizers by their specific star formation rate.more » « less

Interest in O 2 -dependent aliphatic carbon–carbon (C–C) bond cleavage reactions of first row divalent metal diketonate complexes stems from the desire to further understand the reaction pathways of enzymes such as DKE1 and to extract information to develop applications in organic synthesis. A recent report of O 2 -dependent aliphatic C–C bond cleavage at ambient temperature in Ni( ii ) diketonate complexes supported by a tridentate nitrogen donor ligand [(MBBP)Ni(PhC(O)CHC(O)Ph)]Cl ( 7-Cl ; MBBP = 2,6-bis(1-methylbenzimidazol-2-yl)pyridine) in the presence of NEt 3 spurred our interest in further examining the chemistry of such complexes. A series of new TERPY-ligated Ni( ii ) diketonate complexes of the general formula [(TERPY)Ni(R 2 -1,3-diketonate)]ClO 4 ( 1 : R = CH 3 ; 2 : R = C(CH 3 ) 3 ; 3 : R = Ph) was prepared under air and characterized using single crystal X-ray crystallography, elemental analysis, 1 H NMR, ESI-MS, FTIR, and UV-vis. Analysis of the reaction mixtures in which these complexes were generated using 1 H NMR and ESI-MS revealed the presence of both the desired diketonate complex and the bis-TERPY derivative [(TERPY) 2 Ni](ClO 4 ) 2 ( 4 ). Through selective crystallization 1–3 were isolated in analytically pure form. Analysis of reaction mixtures leading to the formation of the MBBP analogs [(MBBP)Ni(R 2 -1,3-diketonate)]X (X = ClO 4 : 5 : R = CH 3 ; 6 : R = C(CH 3 ) 3 ; 7-ClO4 : R = Ph; X = Cl: 7-Cl : R = Ph) using 1 H NMR and ESI-MS revealed the presence of [(MBBP) 2 Ni](ClO 4 ) 2 ( 8 ). Analysis of aerobic acetonitrile solutions of analytically pure 1–3 , 5 and 6 containing NEt 3 and in some cases H 2 O using 1 H NMR and UV-vis revealed evidence for the formation of additional bis-ligand complexes ( 4 and 8 ) but suggested no oxidative diketonate cleavage reactivity. Analysis of the organic products generated from 3 , 7-ClO4 and 7-Cl revealed unaltered dibenzoylmethane. Our results therefore indicate that N 3 -ligated Ni( ii ) complexes of unsubstituted diketonate ligands do not exhibit O 2 -dependent aliphatic C–C bond clevage at room temperature, including in the presence of NEt 3 and/or H 2 O.more » « less

null (Ed.)Studies of the coordination chemistry between the diphenylamide ligand, NPh 2 , and the smaller rare-earth Ln III ions, Ln = Y, Dy, and Er, led to the structural characterization by single-crystal X-ray diffraction crystallography of both solvated and unsolvated complexes, namely, tris(diphenylamido-κ N )bis(tetrahydrofuran-κ O )yttrium(III), Y(NPh 2 ) 3 (THF) 2 or [Y(C 12 H 10 N) 3 (C 4 H 8 O) 2 ], 1-Y , and the erbium(III) (Er), 1-Er , analogue, and bis[μ-1κ N :2(η 6 )-diphenylamido]bis[bis(diphenylamido-κ N )yttrium(III)], [(Ph 2 N) 2 Y(μ-NPh 2 )] 2 or [Y 2 (C 12 H 10 N) 6 ], 2-Y , and the dysprosium(III) (Dy), 2-Dy , analogue. The THF ligands of 1-Er are modeled with disorder across two positions with occupancies of 0.627 (12):0.323 (12) and 0.633 (7):0.367 (7). Also structurally characterized was the tetrametallic Er III bridging oxide hydrolysis product, bis(μ-diphenylamido-κ 2 N : N )bis[μ-1κ N :2(η 6 )-diphenylamido]tetrakis(diphenylamido-κ N )di-μ 3 -oxido-tetraerbium(III) benzene disolvate, {[(Ph 2 N)Er(μ-NPh 2 )] 4 (μ-O) 2 }·(C 6 H 6 ) 2 or [Er 4 (C 12 H 10 N) 8 O 2 ]·2C 6 H 6 , 3-Er . The 3-Er structure was refined as a three-component twin with occupancies 0.7375:0.2010:0.0615.more » « less
