Mendozellus paralaredanus sp. n. from Uruguay and M. rakitovi sp. n. from Peru are described. M. asunctia Cheng is redescribed, the ovipositor is illustrated for the first time, and newly recorded from Argentina. M. serratus DeLong is transferred to Haldorus Oman based on the male genitalia structure, creating the new combination H. serratus (DeLong), comb. n. A checklist and key to species of Mendozellus are provided.

Review of the leafhopper genus Makilingia Baker (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Mileewinae)
The taxonomy of the leafhopper genus Makilingia Baker is reviewed based on comparative morphological study of types and other specimens. Twenty-six species are recognized as valid including ten new species described and illustrated herein: M. davaoensis n. sp. M. lobata n. sp., M. maculamima n. sp., M. nigramima n. sp., M. paranigra n. sp., M. siamensis n. sp., M. tenebrifrons n. sp., M. uncinata n. sp., M. viraktamathi n. sp., and M. xanthopicta n. sp. Makilingia siamensis n. sp. represents the first known occurrence of the genus outside the Philippine Archipelago and the first record for Thailand. Makilingia simillima Baker, n. stat., formerly treated as a variety of M. variabilis Baker, is elevated to full species status based on distinctive differences in the male genitalia. Lectotypes are designated for several species described by Baker. The male genitalia of these species are described and illustrated for the first time and a key to all known species is provided.

Five new species of the endemic Australian leafhopper genus Mayawa Fletcher, 2000 (M. affinifacialis sp. nov., M. bimaculata sp. nov., M. brevicephala sp. nov., M. kathyae sp. nov. and M. vestigia sp. nov.) are described and illustrated and a revised key to species is provided. One of the new species tested positive for a previously unknown strain of phytoplasma belonging to the 16SrV group. The related paralimnine genus Austroauridius gen. nov. based on A. iwaii sp. nov. from Queensland is also described and illustrated and a key to known genera of Australian Paralimnini is provided.more » « less

Andrognathus is a genus of small, thin-bodied millipedes found in deciduous forests of North America. Poorly understood, these organisms inhabit decaying wood and have morphologically conserved and difficult-to-identify sexual characters that have limited study historically. Recent use of scanning electron microscopy has uncovered variation in male genitalia that was previously unknown in the genus. The distribution of Andrognathus and the extent of this variability across the continent, however, were undocumented, and a wealth of natural history collections remained uncatalogued. Here a new species of Andrognathus is described from New Mexico, Andrognathusgrubbsi sp. n. , natural history collections are utilized to create a comprehensive map of the genus, and a neotype established for the type species, Andrognathuscorticarius Cope, 1869. Analysis of the cytochrome oxidase I gene (COI) for A.corticarius was completed for the type series and individuals across the species distribution, but little variation was found. Andrognathusgrubbsi sp. n. joins A.corticarius and A.hoffmani Shear & Marek, 2009 as the only members of the genus.more » « less

The Peruvian genera of Edrotini (Pimeliinae) are revised. A new genus Pachacamacius Flores & Giraldo gen. nov. with two new species, Pachacamacius aguilari Giraldo & Flores sp. nov. (type species) and Pachacamacius koepckeae Flores & Giraldo sp. nov., is described. Two species originally described in the genus ProhylithusKaszab, 1964 are reassigned to two new monotypic genera: Sechuranus Flores and Giraldo gen. nov. (type species Prohylithus barbatusKaszab, 1964) and Koneus Giraldo and Flores, gen. nov. (type species Prohylithus peruanusKaszab, 1981). This article includes diagnoses for five genera and redescriptions or descriptions, distributional data, habitat records and habitus photographs for six species. A dichotomous key for all 11 Peruvian species of Edrotini, drawings of new species' male genitalic features, and distribution maps are also provided. A discussion of the external morphological characters and male genitalia of the new taxa compared to the genera and species previously described and on endemicity and zoogeography of Peruvian Edrotini is presented.more » « less
