Using 0.2 arcsec (∼3 pc) ALMA images of vibrationally excited HC3N emission (HC3N*) we reveal the presence of eight unresolved Super Hot Cores (SHCs) in the inner 160 pc of NGC 253. Our LTE and non-LTE modelling of the HC3N* emission indicate that SHCs have dust temperatures of 200–375 K, relatively high H2 densities of (1−6) × 106 cm−3 and high IR luminosities of (0.1–1) × 108 L⊙. As expected from their short-lived phase (∼104 yr), all SHCs are associated with young super star clusters (SSCs). We use the ratio of luminosities from the SHCs (protostar phase) and from the free–free emission (ZAMS star phase), to establish the evolutionary stage of the SSCs. The youngest SSCs, with the larges ratios, have ages of a few 104 yr (proto-SSCs) and the more evolved SSCs are likely between 105 and 106 yr (ZAMS-SSCs). The different evolutionary stages of the SSCs are also supported by the radiative feedback from the UV radiation as traced by the HNCO/CS ratio, with this ratio being systematically higher in the young proto-SSCs than in the older ZAMS-SSCs. ABSTRACT Feedback from massive stars plays a key role in molecular cloud evolution. After the onset of star formation, the young stellar population is exposed by photoionization, winds, supernovae, and radiation pressure from massive stars. ABSTRACT We analyse the first giant molecular cloud (GMC) simulation to follow the formation of individual stars and their feedback from jets, radiation, winds, and supernovae, using the STARFORGE framework in the GIZMO code. We evolve the GMC for $\sim 9 \rm Myr$, from initial turbulent collapse to dispersal by feedback. Protostellar jets dominate feedback momentum initially, but radiation and winds cause cloud disruption at $\sim 8{{\ \rm per\ cent}}$ star formation efficiency (SFE), and the first supernova at $8.3\, \rm Myr$ comes too late to influence star formation significantly. ABSTRACT We present deep rest-frame UV spectroscopic observations using the Gran Telescopio Canarias of six gravitationally lensed Lyα emitters (LAEs) at 2.36 < z < 2.82 selected from the BELLS GALLERY survey. By taking the magnifications into account, we show that LAEs can be as luminous as LLyα ≃ 30 × 1042 erg s−1 and MUV ≃ −23 (AB) without invoking an AGN component, in contrast with previous findings. We measure Lyα rest-frame equivalent widths, $EW_{0}\,\rm (Ly\alpha)$, ranging from 16 to 50 Å and Lyα escape fractions, $f_{\rm esc}\, \rm (Ly\alpha)$, from 10 per cent to 40 per cent. ABSTRACT We report Keck–NIRSPEC observations of the Brackett α 4.05 μm recombination line across the two candidate embedded super star clusters (SSCs) in NGC 1569. These SSCs power a bright H ii region and have been previously detected as radio and mid-infrared sources. Supplemented with high-resolution VLA mapping of the radio continuum along with IRTF–TEXES spectroscopy of the [S iv] 10.5 μm line, the Brackett α data provide new insight into the dynamical state of gas ionized by these forming massive clusters.
