Title: Doubly heavy baryons in Born-Oppenheimer EFT
We report on the recent progress on the computation of the doubly heavy baryon spectrum in effective field theory. The effective field theory is built upon the heavy-quark mass and adiabatic expansions. The potentials can be expressed as NRQCD Wilson loops with operator insertions. These are nonperturbative objects and so far only the one corresponding to the static potential has been computed with lattice QCD. We review the proposal for a parametrization of the potentials based in an interpolation between the shortand long-distance regimes. The long-distance description is obtained with a newly proposed Effective String Theory which coincides with the previous ones for pure gluodynamics but it is extended to contain a fermion field. We show the doubly heavy baryon spectrum with hyperfine contributions obtained using these parametrizations for the hyperfine potentials.  more » « less

  1. The 1S hyperfine splitting in hydrogen is measured to an impressive ppt precision and will soon be measured to ppm precision in muonic hydrogen. The latter measurement will rely on theoretical predictions, which are limited by knowledge of the proton polarizability effect Δpol. Data-driven evaluations of Δpol have long been in significant tension with baryon chiral perturbation theory. Here we present improved results for Δpol driven by new spin structure data, reducing the long-standing tension between theory and experiment and halving the dominating uncertainty in hyperfine splitting calculations.

  2. We study inflation in a recently proposed gravitational effective field theory describing the trace anomaly. The theory requires an additional scalar which is massless in the early universe. This scalar—referenced as an anomalyon—couples to the familiar matter and radiation through the gauge field trace anomaly. We derive a class of cosmological solutions that deviate from the standard inflationary ones only slightly, in spite of the fact that the anomalyon has a sizable time dependent background. On the other hand, the scalar cosmological perturbations in this theory are different from the conventional inflationary perturbations. The inflaton and anomalyon perturbations mix, and one of the diagonal combinations gives the standard nearly scale-invariant adiabatic spectrum, while the other combination has a blue power spectrum at short distance scales. We argue that this blue spectrum can lead to the formation of primordial black holes (PBHs) at distance scales much shorter than the ones tested in cosmic microwave background observations. The resulting PBHs can be heavy enough to survive to the present day Universe. For natural values of the parameters involved the PBHs would constitute only a tiny fraction of the dark matter, but with fine-tunings perhaps all of dark matter could be accounted by them. We also show that the theory predicts primordial gravitational waves which are almost identical to the standard inflationary ones. Published by the American Physical Society2025

  3. Abstract The first search for the doubly heavy baryon and a search for the baryon are performed using collision data collected via the experiment from 2016 to 2018 at a centre-of-mass energy of , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.2 . The baryons are reconstructed via their decays to and . No significant excess is found for invariant masses between 6700 and 7300 , in a rapidity range from 2.0 to 4.5 and a transverse momentum range from 2 to 20 . Upper limits are set on the ratio of the and production cross-section times the branching fraction to ( ) relative to that of the ( ) baryon, for different lifetime hypotheses, at 95% confidence level. The upper limits range from to for the ( ) decay, and from to for the ( ) decay, depending on the considered mass and lifetime of the ( ) baryon.

  4. Abstract We compute the differential cross-section for direct quarkonium production accompanied by a gluon in high-energy deep inelastic scattering (DIS) at small-x. We employ the Non-Relativistic QCD factorization framework, focusing on theS-wave contribution to the formation of the quarkonium, and including both color singlet and octet contributions. Our short distance coefficients for the production of the heavy quark pair are obtained within the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory. Our results pave the way towards the next-to-leading order computation of direct quarkonium in DIS, as well as the study of azimuthal correlations of direct quarkonium and jet.

  5. Cyclopropylchloromethyldifluorosilane, c-C3H5SiF2CH2Cl, has been synthesized, and its rotational spectrum has been recorded by chirped-pulse Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. The spectral analysis of several isotopologues indicates the presence of two distinct conformations in the free-jet expansion, which are interconvertible through a rotation of the chloromethyl group. A partial substitution structure is presented for the lower energy conformation and is compared to the equilibrium structure obtained from quantum chemical calculations. Additionally, the presence of the chlorine nucleus leads to the rotational transitions splitting into multiple hyperfine components and χaa, a measure of the electric field gradient along the a axis, is unusually small at merely +0.1393(73) MHz. Various common ab initio and density functional theory methods fail to predict good quadrupole coupling constants (in the principal axis system) that adequately reproduce the observed hyperfine splitting, although diagonalizing the quadrupole coupling tensor from the principal axis system into a nucleus-centered axis system reveals that, overall, these methods calculate reasonably the electric field gradient about the chlorine nucleus. Finally, a total of nine electric dipole forbidden, quadrupole allowed transitions are observed in the rotational spectra of the parent species of the higher energy conformation and the 37Cl isotopologue of the lower energy conformation. These include those of x-type (no change in parity of Ka or Kc), which, to our knowledge, is the first time such transitions have been observed in a chlorine-containing molecule.
