null (Ed.)The crystal structure of methyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-β-D-glycopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-mannopyranoside monohydrate, C 15 H 27 NO 11 ·H 2 O, was determined and its structural properties compared to those in a set of mono- and disaccharides bearing N -acetyl side-chains in βGlcNAc aldohexopyranosyl rings. Valence bond angles and torsion angles in these side chains are relatively uniform, but C—N (amide) and C—O (carbonyl) bond lengths depend on the state of hydrogen bonding to the carbonyl O atom and N—H hydrogen. Relative to N -acetyl side chains devoid of hydrogen bonding, those in which the carbonyl O atom serves as a hydrogen-bond acceptor display elongated C—O and shortened C—N bonds. This behavior is reproduced by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, indicating that the relative contributions of amide resonance forms to experimental C—N and C—O bond lengths depend on the solvation state, leading to expectations that activation barriers to amide cis – trans isomerization will depend on the polarity of the environment. DFT calculations also revealed useful predictive information on the dependencies of inter-residue hydrogen bonding and some bond angles in or proximal to β-(1→4) O -glycosidic linkages on linkage torsion angles ϕ and ψ. Hypersurfaces correlating ϕ and ψ with the linkage C—O—C bond angle and total energy are sufficiently similar to render the former a proxy of the latter.more » « less

The title salt, C 4 H 6 N 3 O 2 + ·Cl − , exhibits multiple hydrogen-bonding interactions involving the nitroimidazolium cation and the chloride anion. Strong hydrogen bonds between the amine hydrogen atom and the chloride anion link the ionic moieties. Of note, with respect to H...Cl interactions, the central aromatic hydrogen atom displays a shorter interaction than the other aromatic hydrogen atom. Finally, interactions are observed between the nitro moiety and methyl H atoms. While no π–π stacking is observed, anion-π interactions are present. The crystal was refined as a two-component twin.more » « less

Crystals of the title salt, (C8H20N)[Sn(C6H5)3(C2H2O2S)], comprise diisobutylammonium cations and mercaptoacetatotriphenylstannate(IV) anions. The bidentate binding mode of the mercaptoacetate ligand gives rise to a five-coordinated, ionic triphenyltin complex with a distorted
cis -trigonal–bipyramidal geometry around the tin atom. In the crystal, charge-assisted ammonium-N—H...O(carboxylate) hydrogen-bonding connects two cations and two anions into a four-ion aggregate. Two positions were resolved for one of the phenyl rings with the major component having a site occupancy factor of 0.60 (3). -
The crystal structure of the title sulfonamide, C 10 H 15 NO 2 S, comprises two molecules in the asymmetric unit. The S=O bond lengths of the sulfonamide functional group range from 1.428 (2) to 1.441 (2) Å, with S—C bond lengths of 1.766 (3) Å (for both molecules in the asymmetric unit), and S—N bond lengths of 1.618 (2) and 1.622 (3) Å, respectively. When both molecules are viewed down the N—S bond, the propyl group is gauche to the toluene moiety. In the crystal structure, molecules of the title compound are arranged in an intricate three-dimensional network that is formed via intermolecular C—H...O and N—H...O hydrogen bonds. The crystal structure was refined from a crystal twinned by inversion.more » « less

The title thiazole orange derivative, bearing an alkene substituent, crystallized as a monohydrate of its iodide salt, namely, (
Z )-1-(hex-5-en-1-yl)-4-{[3-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1,3-benzothiazol-2-ylidene]methyl}quinolin-1-ium iodide monohydrate, C24H25N2S+·I−·H2O. The packing features aromatic π-stacking and van der Waals interactions. The water molecule of crystallization interacts with the cation and anionvia O—H...N and O—H...I hydrogen bonds, respectively.
