  1. Abstract We report the facile and efficient synthesis of common electrophilic haloboranes via a protonolysis reaction between Piers’ borane, HB(C6F5)2, and H−X (X=Cl, Br). This route benefits from fast reaction times, easy setup, and minimal workup to yield the analytically pure etherates, (C6F5)2BCl(OEt2) (1) and (C6F5)2BBr(OEt2) (2), as well as the ether‐free tri‐coordinate species, (C6F5)2BBr (3).

  2. AbstractWe report on a series of detailed Breit-Pauli and Dirac B-spline R-matrix (DBSR) differential cross section (DCS) calculations for excitation of the$$5\,^2\textrm{S}_{1/2} \rightarrow 5\,^2\textrm{P}_{1/2}$$ 5 2 S 1 / 2 5 2 P 1 / 2 and$$5\,^2\textrm{S}_{1/2}\rightarrow 5\,^2\textrm{P}_{3/2}$$ 5 2 S 1 / 2 5 2 P 3 / 2 states in rubidium by 40 eV incident electrons. The early BP computations shown here were carried out with both 5 states and 12 states, while the DBSR models coupled 150 and 325 states, respectively. We also report corresponding results from a limited set of DCS measurements on the unresolved$$5\,^2\textrm{P}_{1/2,3/2}$$ 5 2 P 1 / 2 , 3 / 2 states, with the experimental data being restricted to the scattered electron angular range 2–$$10^\circ $$ 10 . Typically, good agreement is found between our calculated and measured DCS for excitation of the unresolved$$5\,^2\textrm{P}_{1/2,3/2}$$ 5 2 P 1 / 2 , 3 / 2 states, with best accord being found between the DBSR predictions and the measured data. The present theoretical and experimental results are also compared with predictions from earlier 40 eV calculations using the nonrelativistic Distorted-Wave Born Approximation and a Relativistic Distorted-Wave model. 3. Abstract Single crystals of U2Mn3Ge and U2Fe3Ge with a Kagome lattice structure were synthesized using a high-temperature self-flux crystal growth method. The physical properties of these crystals were characterized through measurements of resistivity, magnetism, and specific heat. U2Fe3Ge exhibits ferromagnetic ground state and anomalous Hall effect, and U2Mn3Ge demonstrates a complex magnetic structure. Both compounds exhibit large Sommerfeld coefficient, indicating coexistence of heavy Fermion behaviour with magnetism. Our results suggest that this U2TM3Ge (TM = Mn, Fe, Co) family is a promising platform to investigate the interplay of magnetism, Kondo physics and the Kagome lattice.

  4. Abstract Ni‐rich LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2(NCM811) has been considered as a promising cathode material for high energy density lithium‐ion batteries. However, it experiences undesirable interfacial side‐reactions with the electrolyte, which lead to a rapid capacity decay. In this work, a homogeneous precipitation method is proposed for forming a uniform silicon dioxide (SiO2) coating on the NCM811 surface. The strong Si−O network provided a stable protective layer between the NCM811 active material and electrolyte to improve the electrochemical stability. As a result, the NCM811@SiO2cathode showed superior cycling stability (84.9 % after 100 cycles at 0.2 C) and rate capability (142.7 mA h g−1at 5 C) compared to the pristine NCM811 cathode (56.6 % after 100 cycles, 127.9 mA h g−1at 5 C). Moreover, the SiO2coating effectively suppressed voltage decay and pulverization of the NCM811 particles during long term cycling. This uniform coating technique offers a viable approach for stabilizing Ni‐rich cathode materials for high‐energy density lithium‐ion batteries.

  5. We present the optical and structural characterization of films of T a 2 O 5 , S c 2 O 3 , and S c 2 O 3 doped T a 2 O 5 with a cation ratio around 0.1 grown by reactive sputtering. The addition of S c 2 O 3 as a dopant induces the formation of tantalum suboxide due to the “oxygen getter” property of scandium. The presence of tantalum suboxide greatly affects the optical properties of the coating, resulting in higher absorption loss at λ<#comment/> = 1064 n m . The refractive index and optical band gap of the mixed film do not correspond to those of a mixture of T a 2 O 5 and S c 2 O 3 , given the profound structural modifications induced by the dopant.
