Abstract The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is a large liquid scintillator detector designed to explore many topics in fundamental physics. In this study, the potential of searching for proton decay in themode with JUNO is investigated. The kaon and its decay particles feature a clear three-fold coincidence signature that results in a high efficiency for identification. Moreover, the excellent energy resolution of JUNO permits suppression of the sizable background caused by other delayed signals. Based on these advantages, the detection efficiency for the proton decay viais 36.9% ± 4.9% with a background level ofevents after 10 years of data collection. The estimated sensitivity based on 200 kton-years of exposure isyears, which is competitive with the current best limits on the proton lifetime in this channel and complements the use of different detection technologies.

Search for two-neutrino double-beta decay of 136 Xe to the excited state of 136 Ba with the complete EXO-200 dataset*
Abstract A new search for two-neutrino double-beta (2νββ) decay of136Xe to theexcited state of136Ba is performed with the full EXO-200 dataset. A deep learning-based convolutional neural network is used to discriminate signal from background events. Signal detection efficiency is increased relative to previous searches by EXO-200 by more than a factor of two. With the addition of the Phase II dataset taken with an upgraded detector, the median 90% confidence level half-life sensitivity of 2νββdecay to thestate of136Ba isyr using a total136Xe exposure of 234.1 kg yr. No statistically significant evidence for 2νββdecay to thestate is observed, leading to a lower limit ofyr at 90% confidence level, improved by 70% relative to the current world's best constraint.

Abstract We present13CO(J= 1 → 0) observations for the EDGE-CALIFA survey, which is a mapping survey of 126 nearby galaxies at a typical spatial resolution of 1.5 kpc. Using detected12CO emission as a prior, we detect13CO in 41 galaxies via integrated line flux over the entire galaxy and in 30 galaxies via integrated line intensity in resolved synthesized beams. Incorporating our CO observations and optical IFU spectroscopy, we perform a systematic comparison between the line ratio and the properties of the stars and ionized gas. Higher values are found in interacting galaxies compared to those in noninteracting galaxies. The global slightly increases with infrared colorF60/F100but appears insensitive to other host-galaxy properties such as morphology, stellar mass, or galaxy size. We also present azimuthally averaged profiles for our sample up to a galactocentric radius of 0.4r25(∼6 kpc), taking into account the13CO nondetections by spectral stacking. The radial profiles of are quite flat across our sample. Within galactocentric distances of 0.2r25, the azimuthally averaged increases with the star formation rate. However, Spearman rank correlation tests show the azimuthally averaged does not strongly correlate with any other gas or stellar properties in general, especially beyond 0.2r25from the galaxy centers. Our findings suggest that in the complex environments in galaxy disks, is not a sensitive tracer for ISM properties. Dynamical disturbances, like galaxy interactions or the presence of a bar, also have an overall impact on , which further complicates the interpretations of variations.more » « less

Abstract We identify member stars of more than 90 open clusters in the LAMOST survey. With the method of Fang et al., the chromospheric activity (CA) indices, for 1091 member stars in 82 open clusters andfor 1118 member stars in 83 open clusters, are calculated. The relations between the average,in each open cluster and its age are investigated in differentTeffand [Fe/H] ranges. We find that CA starts to decrease slowly from logt = 6.70 to logt = 8.50, and then decreases rapidly until logt = 9.53. The trend becomes clearer for cooler stars. The quadratic functions between logR′ and logtwith 4000 K < Teff < 5500 K are constructed, which can be used to roughly estimate ages of field stars with accuracy about 40% forand 60% for.more » « less

Abstract The nucleus206Po was studied in the two proton transfer reaction204Pb(16O,14C)206Po and the lifetime of the first excited 2+state was determined by utilizing the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift method. The experimental results are compared with shell-model calculations based on different effective interactions. The calculations qualitatively reproduced the experimentally observed value, suggesting that the state of206Po exhibits a collective nature. However, the employed effective interactions revealed some limitations, particularly in their description of the states. These results emphasize the importance of understanding the properties of low-lying states, especially their evolution from single-particle dynamics to collective modes, in evaluating various effective nuclear interactions.more » « less

Abstract We present a catalog of 315 protostellar outflow candidates detected in SiOJ= 5 − 4 in the ALMA-IMF Large Program, observed with ∼2000 au spatial resolution, 0.339 km s−1velocity resolution, and 2–12 mJy beam−1(0.18–0.8 K) sensitivity. We find median outflow masses, momenta, and kinetic energies of ∼0.3M⊙, 4M⊙km s−1, and 1045erg, respectively. Median outflow lifetimes are 6000 yr, yielding median mass, momentum, and energy rates of = 10−4.4M⊙yr−1, = 10−3.2M⊙km s−1yr−1, and = 1L⊙. We analyze these outflow properties in the aggregate in each field. We find correlations between field-aggregated SiO outflow properties and total mass in cores (∼3σ–5σ), and no correlations above 3σwith clump mass, clump luminosity, or clump luminosity-to-mass ratio. We perform a linear regression analysis and find that the correlation between field-aggregated outflow mass and total clump mass—which has been previously described in the literature—may actually be mediated by the relationship between outflow mass and total mass in cores. We also find that the most massive SiO outflow in each field is typically responsible for only 15%–30% of the total outflow mass (60% upper limit). Our data agree well with the established mechanical force−bolometric luminosity relationship in the literature, and our data extend this relationship up toL≥ 106L⊙and ≥ 1M⊙km s−1yr−1. Our lack of correlation with clumpL/Mis inconsistent with models of protocluster formation in which all protostars start forming at the same time.more » « less
