Title: Search for a μ+μ− resonance in four-muon final states at Belle II
We report on a search for a resonance X decaying to a pair of muons in e + e μ + μ X events in the 0.212 9.000 GeV / c 2 mass range, using 178 fb 1 of data collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider at a center of mass energy of 10.58 GeV. The analysis probes two different models of X beyond the standard model: a Z vector boson in the L μ L τ model and a muonphilic scalar. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at the 90% confidence level on the products of cross section and branching fraction for these processes, ranging from 0.046 fb to 0.97 fb for the L μ L τ model and from 0.055 fb to 1.3 fb for the muonphilic scalar model. For masses below 6 GeV / c 2 , the corresponding constraints on the couplings of these processes to the standard model range from 0.0008 to 0.039 for the L μ L τ model and from 0.0018 to 0.040 for the muonphilic scalar model.   1. The first measurement of the C P asymmetry of the decay rate ( A C P ) and the C P average ( Σ A FB ) and C P asymmetry ( Δ A FB ) of the forward-backward asymmetry in the muon system of Λ c + p μ + μ decays is reported. The measurement is performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions, recorded by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb 1 . The asymmetries are measured in two regions of dimuon mass near the  ϕ -meson mass peak. The dimuon-mass integrated results are A C P = ( 1.1 ± 4.0 ± 0.5 ) % , Σ A FB = ( 3.9 ± 4.0 ± 0.6 ) % , Δ A FB = ( 3.1 ± 4.0 ± 0.4 ) % , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. We report measurements of production cross sections for ρ + , ρ 0 , ω , K * + , K * 0 , ϕ , η , K S 0 , f 0 ( 980 ) , D + , D 0 , D s + , D * + , D * 0 , and D s * + in e + e collisions at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV. The data were recorded by the Belle experiment, consisting of 571 fb 1 at 10.58 GeV and 74 fb 1 at 10.52 GeV. Production cross sections are extracted as a function of the fractional hadron momentum x p . The measurements are compared to Monte Carlo generator predictions with various fragmentation settings, including those that have increased fragmentation into vector mesons over pseudoscalar mesons. The cross sections measured for light hadrons are consistent with no additional increase of vector over pseudoscalar mesons. The charmed-meson cross sections are compared to earlier measurements—when available—including older Belle results, which they supersede. They are in agreement before application of an improved initial-state radiation correction procedure that causes slight changes in their x p shapes. Published by the American Physical Society2025

  3. The J / ψ μ + μ μ + μ decay has been observed with a statistical significance in excess of five standard deviations. The analysis is based on an event sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment in 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 33.6 fb 1 . Normalizing to the J / ψ μ + μ decay mode leads to a branching fraction of [ 10.1 2.7 + 3.3 ( stat ) ± 0.4 ( syst ) ] × 10 7 , a value that is consistent with the standard model prediction. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2024CERN

  4. Lepton flavor universality in rare b s transitions is tested for the first time using B s 0 meson decays. The measurements are performed using p p collision data collected by the LHCb experiment between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb 1 . Branching fraction ratios between the B s 0 ϕ e + e and B s 0 ϕ μ + μ decays are measured in three regions of dilepton mass squared, q 2 , with 0.1 < q 2 < 1.1 , 1.1 < q 2 < 6.0 , and 15 < q 2 < 19 GeV 2 / c 4 .   5. The first results of the study of high-energy electron neutrino ( ν e ) and muon neutrino ( ν μ ) charged-current interactions in the FASER ν emulsion-tungsten detector of the FASER experiment at the LHC are presented. A 128.8 kg subset of the FASER ν volume was analyzed after exposure to 9.5 fb 1 of s = 13.6 TeV p p data. Four (eight) ν e ( ν μ ) interaction candidate events are observed with a statistical significance of 5.2 σ ( 5.7 σ ). This is the first direct observation of ν e interactions at a particle collider and includes the highest-energy ν e and ν μ ever detected from an artificial source. The interaction cross section per nucleon σ / E ν is measured over an energy range of 560–1740 GeV (520–1760 GeV) for ν e ( ν μ ) to be ( 1.2 0.7 + 0.8 ) × 10 38 cm 2 GeV 1 [ ( 0.5 ± 0.2 ) × 10 38 cm 2 GeV 1 ], consistent with standard model predictions.
