d ][1,3]dioxin-4-yl)methanol derivatives are reported, namely, 4-[(methylsulfonyloxy)methyl]-2,4,4a,6,8,8a-hexahydro-[1,3]dioxino[5,4-d ][1,3]dioxine, C8H14O7S,1 , 4-[(benzyloxy)methyl]-2,4,4a,6,8,8a-hexahydro-[1,3]dioxino[5,4-d ][1,3]dioxine, C14H18O5,2 , and 4-[(anilinocarbonyl)methyl]-2,4,4a,6,8,8a-hexahydro-[1,3]dioxino[5,4-d ][1,3]dioxine, C14H17NO6,3 . Mesylate ester1 at 173 K has triclinicP \overline{1} symmetry and both benzyl ether2 at 173 K and phenyl urethane3 have monoclinicP 21/c symmetry. These structures are of interest because of the conformation of thecis -fused tetraoxadecalin ring system. Thiscis -bicyclo[4.4.0]decane ring system,i.e. cis -decalin, can undergo conformational equilibration. In the two most stable conformers, both six-membered rings adopt a chair conformation. However, there are significant consequences in these two stable conformers, with heteroatom substitution at the 1,3,5,7-ring positions as described. Only one conformation, denoted as `concave' or `inside', is found in these crystal structures. This is consistent with previously reported structures of the 1,1-geminal dihydroxy aldehyde and tosylate analogs. -
Abstract Three new polynuclear clusters with the formulae [Mn10O4(OH)(OMe){(py)2C(O)2}2{(py)2C(OMe)(O)}4(MeCO2)6](ClO4)2(
1 ), Na[Mn12O2(OH)3(OMe){(py)2C(O)2}6{(py)2C(OH)(O)}2(MeCO2)2(H2O)10](ClO4)8(2 ) and [Mn12O4(OH)2{(py)2C(O)2}6{(py)2C(OMe)(O)}(MeCO2)3(NO3)3(H2O)(DMF)2](NO3)2(3 ) were prepared from the combination of di‐2‐pyridyl ketone, (py)2CO, with the aliphatic diols (1,3‐propanediol (pdH2) or 1,4‐butanediol (1,4‐bdH2)) in Mn carboxylate chemistry. The reported compounds do not include the aliphatic diols employed in this reaction scheme; however, their use is essential for the formation of1 –3 . The crystal structures of1 –3 are based on multilayer cores which, to our knowledge, are reported for the first time in Mn cluster chemistry. Direct current (dc ) magnetic susceptibility studies showed the presence of dominant antiferromagnetic exchange interactions within1 –3 . Alternating current (ac ) magnetic susceptibility studies revealed the presence of out‐of‐phase signals below 3.0 K for2 and3 indicating the slow relaxation of the magnetization vector, characteristic of single‐molecule magnets; theUeff value of2 was found to be 23 K and the preexponential factorτ0 ~7.6×10−9 s. -
Abstract Reactions of (O=)PH(OCH2CH3)2and BrMg(CH2)
m CH=CH2(4.9–3.2 equiv;m =4 (a ), 5 (b ), 6 (c )) give the dialkylphosphine oxides (O=)PH[(CH2)m CH=CH2]2(2 a –c ; 77–81 % after workup), which are treated with NaH and then α,ω‐dibromides Br(CH2)n Br (0.49–0.32 equiv;n =8 (a′ ), 10 (b′ ), 12 (c′ ), 14 (d′ )) to yield the bis(trialkylphosphine oxides) [H2C=CH(CH2)m ]2P(=O)(CH2)n (O=)P[(CH2)m CH=CH2]2(3 ab′ ,3 bc′ ,3 cd′ ,3 ca′ ; 79–84 %). Reactions of3 bc′ and3 ca′ with Grubbs’ first‐generation catalyst and then H2/PtO2afford the dibridgehead diphosphine dioxides( 4 bc′ ,4 ca′ ; 14–19 %,n′ =2m +2);31P NMR spectra show two stereoisomeric species (ca. 70:30). Crystal structures of two isomers of the latter are obtained,out ,out ‐4 ca′ and a conformer ofin ,out ‐4 ca′ that features crossed chains, such that the (O=)P vectors appearout ,out . Whereas4 bc′ resists crystallization, a byproduct derived from an alternative metathesis mode, (CH2)12P (=O)(CH2)12(O=)P(C H2)12, as well as3 ab′ and3 bc′ , are structurally characterized. The efficiencies of other routes to dibridgehead diphosphorus compounds are compared. -
Abstract Mössbauer isomer shift and quadrupole splitting properties have been calculated using the OLYP‐D3(BJ) density functional method on previously obtained (W.‐G. Han Du, et al.,
Inorg Chem .2020 ,59 , 8906–8915) geometry optimized Fea33+−H2O−CuB2+dinuclear center (DNC) clusters of the resting oxidized (O state) “as‐isolated” cytochromec oxidase (Cc O). The calculated results are highly consistent with the available experimental observations. The calculations have also shown that the structural heterogeneities of theO state DNCs implicated by the Mössbauer experiments are likely consequences of various factors, particularly the variable positions of the central H2O molecule between the Fea33+and CuB2+sites in different DNCs, whether or not this central H2O molecule has H‐bonding interaction with another H2O molecule, the different spin states having similar energies for the Fea33+sites, and whether the Fea33+and CuB2+sites are ferromagnetically or antiferromagnetically spin‐coupled. -
Abstract Decarbonylation along with P‐atom transfer from the phosphaethynolate anion, PCO−, to the NbIVcomplex [(PNP)NbCl2(N
t BuAr)] (1 ) (PNP=N[2‐Pi Pr2‐4‐methylphenyl]2−; Ar=3,5‐Me2C6H3) results in its coupling with one of the phosphine arms of the pincer ligand to produce a phosphanylidene phosphorane complex [(PNPP)NbCl(Nt BuAr)] (2 ). Reduction of2 with CoCp*2cleaves the P−P bond to form the first neutral and terminal phosphido complex of a group 5 transition metal, namely, [(PNP)Nb≡P(Nt BuAr)] (3 ). Theoretical studies have been used to understand both the coupling of the P‐atom and the reductive cleavage of the P−P bond. Reaction of3 with a two‐electron oxidant such as ethylene sulfide results in a diamagnetic sulfido complex having a P−P coupled ligand, namely [(PNPP)Nb=S(Nt BuAr)] (4 ).
