Abstract We show that the affine vertex superalgebra V^{k}(\mathfrak{osp}_{1|2n})at generic level 𝑘 embeds in the equivariant 𝒲-algebra of \mathfrak{sp}_{2n}times 4nfree fermions. This has two corollaries:(1) it provides a new proof that, for generic 𝑘, the coset \operatorname{Com}(V^{k}(\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}),V^{k}(\mathfrak{osp}_{1|2n}))is isomorphic to \mathcal{W}^{\ell}(\mathfrak{sp}_{2n})for \ell=-(n+1)+(k+n+1)/(2k+2n+1), and(2) we obtain the decomposition of ordinary V^{k}(\mathfrak{osp}_{1|2n})-modules into V^{k}(\mathfrak{sp}_{2n})\otimes\mathcal{W}^{\ell}(\mathfrak{sp}_{2n})-modules.Next, if 𝑘 is an admissible level and ℓ is a non-degenerate admissible level for \mathfrak{sp}_{2n}, we show that the simple algebra L_{k}(\mathfrak{osp}_{1|2n})is an extension of the simple subalgebra L_{k}(\mathfrak{sp}_{2n})\otimes{\mathcal{W}}_{\ell}(\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}).Using the theory of vertex superalgebra extensions, we prove that the category of ordinary L_{k}(\mathfrak{osp}_{1|2n})-modules is a semisimple, rigid vertex tensor supercategory with only finitely many inequivalent simple objects. It is equivalent to a certain subcategory of \mathcal{W}_{\ell}(\mathfrak{sp}_{2n})-modules.A similar result also holds for the category of Ramond twisted modules.Due to a recent theorem of Robert McRae, we get as a corollary that categories of ordinary L_{k}(\mathfrak{sp}_{2n})-modules are rigid.

Conformal geometry from entanglement
In a physical system with conformal symmetry, observables depend on cross-ratios, measures of distance invariant under global conformal transformations (conformal geometry for short). We identify a quantum information-theoretic mechanism by which the conformal geometry emerges at the gapless edge of a 2+1D quantum many-body system with a bulk energy gap. We introduce a novel pair of information-theoretic quantities(\mathfrak{c}_{\textrm{tot}}, \eta) that can be defined locally on the edge from the wavefunction of the many-body system, without prior knowledge of any distance measure. We posit that, for a topological groundstate, the quantity\mathfrak{c}_{\textrm{tot}} is stationary under arbitrary variations of the quantum state, and study the logical consequences. We show that stationarity, modulo an entanglement-based assumption about the bulk, implies (i)\mathfrak{c}_{\textrm{tot}} is a non-negative constant that can be interpreted as the total central charge of the edge theory. (ii)\eta is a cross-ratio, obeying the full set of mathematical consistency rules, which further indicates the existence of a distance measure of the edge with global conformal invariance. Thus, the conformal geometry emerges from a simple assumption on groundstate entanglement. We show that stationarity of\mathfrak{c}_{\textrm{tot}} is equivalent to a vector fixed-point equation involving\eta , making our assumption locally checkable. We also derive similar results for 1+1D systems under a suitable set of assumptions.

Abstract The azimuthal ($$\Delta \varphi $$ ) correlation distributions between heavy-flavor decay electrons and associated charged particles are measured in pp and p–Pb collisions at$$\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{{NN}}}} = 5.02$$ TeV. Results are reported for electrons with transverse momentum$$4<16$$ $$\textrm{GeV}/c$$ and pseudorapidity$$|\eta |<0.6$$ . The associated charged particles are selected with transverse momentum$$1<7$$ $$\textrm{GeV}/c$$ , and relative pseudorapidity separation with the leading electron$$|\Delta \eta | < 1$$ . The correlation measurements are performed to study and characterize the fragmentation and hadronization of heavy quarks. The correlation structures are fitted with a constant and two von Mises functions to obtain the baseline and the near- and away-side peaks, respectively. The results from p–Pb collisions are compared with those from pp collisions to study the effects of cold nuclear matter. In the measured trigger electron and associated particle kinematic regions, the two collision systems give consistent results. The$$\Delta \varphi $$ distribution and the peak observables in pp and p–Pb collisions are compared with calculations from various Monte Carlo event generators.more » « less

Measurements are presented of the cross-section for the central exclusive production ofJ/\psi\to\mu^+\mu^- and\psi(2S)\to\mu^+\mu^- processes in proton-proton collisions at\sqrt{s} = 13 \ \mathrm{TeV} with 2016–2018 data. They are performed by requiring both muons to be in the LHCb acceptance (with pseudorapidity2<\eta_{\mu^±} < 4.5 ) and mesons in the rapidity range2.0 < y < 4.5 . The integrated cross-section results are\sigma_{J/\psi\to\mu^+\mu^-}(2.0 where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to the luminosity determination. In addition, a measurement of the ratio of\psi(2S) andJ/\psi cross-sections, at an average photon-proton centre-of-mass energy of1\ \mathrm{TeV} , is performed, giving$ = 0.1763 ± 0.0029 ± 0.0008 ± 0.0039,$$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third due to the knowledge of the involved branching fractions. For the first time, the dependence of theJ/\psi$ and\psi(2S) cross-sections on the total transverse momentum transfer is determined inpp collisions and is found consistent with the behaviour observed in electron-proton collisions.more » « less

Abstract The double differential cross sections of the Drell–Yan lepton pair ($$\ell ^+\ell ^-$$ , dielectron or dimuon) production are measured as functions of the invariant mass$$m_{\ell \ell }$$ , transverse momentum$$p_{\textrm{T}} (\ell \ell )$$ , and$$\varphi ^{*}_{\eta }$$ . The$$\varphi ^{*}_{\eta }$$ observable, derived from angular measurements of the leptons and highly correlated with$$p_{\textrm{T}} (\ell \ell )$$ , is used to probe the low-$$p_{\textrm{T}} (\ell \ell )$$ region in a complementary way. Dilepton masses up to 1$$\,\text {Te\hspace{-.08em}V}$$ are investigated. Additionally, a measurement is performed requiring at least one jet in the final state. To benefit from partial cancellation of the systematic uncertainty, the ratios of the differential cross sections for various$$m_{\ell \ell }$$ ranges to those in the Z mass peak interval are presented. The collected data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.3$$\,\text {fb}^{-1}$$ of proton–proton collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13$$\,\text {Te\hspace{-.08em}V}$$ . Measurements are compared with predictions based on perturbative quantum chromodynamics, including soft-gluon resummation.more » « less

Abstract The first measurement of the multiplicity dependence of intra-jet properties of leading charged-particle jets in proton–proton (pp) collisions is reported. The mean charged-particle multiplicity and jet fragmentation distributions are measured in minimum-bias and high-multiplicity pp collisions at center-of-mass energy$$\sqrt{s}$$ = 13 TeV using the ALICE detector. Jets are reconstructed from charged particles produced in the midrapidity region ($$|\eta | < 0.9$$ ) using the sequential recombination anti-$$k_{\textrm{T}}$$ algorithm with jet resolution parametersR= 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4 for the transverse momentum ($$p_\textrm{T}$$ ) interval 5–110 GeV/c. The high-multiplicity events are selected by the forward V0 scintillator detectors. The mean charged-particle multiplicity inside the leading jet cone rises monotonically with increasing jet$$p_\textrm{T}$$ in qualitative agreement with previous measurements at lower energies. The distributions of jet fragmentation function variables$$z^{\textrm{ch}}$$ and$$\xi ^{\textrm{ch}}$$ are measured for different jet-$$p_\textrm{T}$$ intervals. Jet-$$p_\textrm{T}$$ independent fragmentation of leading jets is observed for wider jets except at high- and low-$$z^{\textrm{ch}}$$ values. The observed “hump-backed plateau” structure in the$$\xi ^{\textrm{ch}}$$ distribution indicates suppression of low-$$p_\textrm{T}$$ particles. In high-multiplicity events, an enhancement of the fragmentation probability of low-$$z^{\textrm{ch}}$$ particles accompanied by a suppression of high-$$z^{\textrm{ch}}$$ particles is observed compared to minimum-bias events. This behavior becomes more prominent for low-$$p_\textrm{T}$$ jets with larger jet radius. The results are compared with predictions of QCD-inspired event generators, PYTHIA 8 with Monash 2013 tune and EPOS LHC. It is found that PYTHIA 8 qualitatively reproduces the jet modification in high-multiplicity events except at high jet$$p_\textrm{T}$$ . These measurements provide important constraints to models of jet fragmentation.more » « less
