Title: Cobalt(II) Complex Constructed from Pyrazinecarboxamide and Aromatic Carboxylic Acid: Synthesis, Single Crystal XRD Along with Computational Study
A cobalt (II) mononuclear complex was synthesized by two-nitrobenzoic acid and pyrazine-two-carboxamide ligands in the presence of sodium bicarbonate and aqueous solution of cobalt acetate tetrahydrate. The synthesized cobalt(II) complex was characterized by single crystal X-rays diffraction. The coordination geometry of the cobalt complex was octahedral with water molecules occupying the axial sites. A lot of intermolecular interactions were in response to stabilize the supramolecular assembly which were inspected by Hirshfeld surface analysis. Enrichment ratios were calculated to find the pair of atoms having the highest propensity to form crystal packing interactions. Void analysis was conducted to forecast how the crystal would respond to applied stress. Interaction energy calculations were carried out using the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) electron density model to identify which energy types most significantly contributed to the supramolecular assembly. Moreover, the energy data obtained from DFT calculations showed an average level of stability of the molecule. The moderate HOMO-LUMO energy gap suggested reactivity, while a high electrophilicity index indicates a strong tendency for electron-accepting reactions.  more » « less

Cobalt( ii ) ions were adsorbed to the surface of rod-shape anatase TiO 2 nanocrystals and subsequently heated to promote ion diffusion into the nanocrystal. After removal of any remaining surface bound cobalt, a sample consisting of strictly cobalt-doped TiO 2 was obtained and characterized with powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, SQUID magnetometry, and inductively-coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy. The nanocrystal morphology was unchanged in the process and no new crystal phases were detected. The concentration of cobalt in the doped samples linearly correlates with the initial loading of cobalt( ii ) ions on the nanocrystal surface. Thin films of the cobalt doped TiO 2 nanocrystals were prepared on indium-tin oxide coated glass substrate, and the electrical conductivity increased with the concentration of doped cobalt. Magnetic measurements of the cobalt-doped TiO 2 nanocrystals reveal paramagnetic behavior at room temperature, and antiferromagnetic interactions between Co ions at low temperatures. Antiferromagnetism is atypical for cobalt-doped TiO 2 nanocrystals, and is proposed to arise from interstitial doping that may be favored by the diffusional doping mechanism.

  2. A CuIIcoordination polymer,catena-poly[[[aquacopper(II)]-bis(μ-4-aminobenzoato)-κ2N:O;κ2O:N] monohydrate], {[Cu(pABA)2(H2O)]·H2O}n(pABA =p-aminobenzoate, C7H4NO2), was synthesized and characterized. It exhibits a one-dimensional chain structure extended into a three-dimensional supramolecular assembly through hydrogen bonds and π–π interactions. While the twinned crystal shows a metrically orthorhombic lattice and an apparent space groupPbcm, the true symmetry is monoclinic (space groupP2/c), with disordered Cu atoms and mixed roles of water molecules (aqua ligand/crystallization water). The luminescence spectrum of the complex shows an emission at 345 nm,cf.349 nm forpABAH.

  3. A ditopic nitrogen ligand (E)-N′-(pyridin-4-ylmethylene)isonicotinohydrazide (L) containing both divergent pyridyl coordination sites and a hydrogen-bonding hydrazide–hydrazone moiety was synthesized. The Co(NCS)2-mediated self-assembly of L has resulted in the synthesis of a novel 3-dimensional (3D) supramolecular framework (1) that features both coordination and hydrogen bonding interactions. X-ray structural analysis reveals the formation and coordination mode of 1 in the solid state. The rational utilization of coordination bonds and hydrogen bonding interactions is confirmed and responsible for constructing the 3D materials. Catalytic studies using 1 in the presence of an activator are performed for the hydroboration and hydrosilylation reactions of ketones and aldehydes, and the results are compared with previously reported cobalt-based polymeric catalysts.

  4. Two bis-carbamoylmethylphosphine oxide compounds, namely {[(3-{[2-(diphenylphosphinoyl)ethanamido]methyl}benzyl)carbamoyl]methyl}diphenylphosphine oxide, C 36 H 34 N 2 O 4 P 2 , (I), and diethyl [({2-[2-(diethoxyphosphinoyl)ethanamido]ethyl}carbamoyl)methyl]phosphonate, C 14 H 30 N 2 O 8 P 2 , (II), were synthesized via nucleophilic acyl substitution reactions between an ester and a primary amine. Hydrogen-bonding interactions are present in both crystals, but these interactions are intramolecular in the case of compound (I) and intermolecular in compound (II). Intramolecular π–π stacking interactions are also present in the crystal of compound (I) with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.9479 (12) Å and a dihedral angle of 9.56 (12)°. Intermolecular C—H...π interactions [C...centroid distance of 3.622 (2) Å, C—H...centroid angle of 146°] give rise to supramolecular sheets that lie in the ab plane. Key geometric features for compound (I) involve a nearly planar, trans- amide group with a C—N—C—C torsion angle of 169.12 (17)°, and a torsion angle of −108.39 (15)° between the phosphine oxide phosphorus atom and the amide nitrogen atom. For compound (II), the electron density corresponding to the phosphoryl group was disordered, and was modeled as two parts with a 0.7387 (19):0.2613 (19) occupancy ratio. Compound (II) also boasts a trans -amide group that approaches planarity with a C—N—C—C torsion angle of −176.50 (16)°. The hydrogen bonds in this structure are intermolecular, with a D ... A distance of 2.883 (2) Å and a D —H... A angle of 175.0 (18)° between the amide hydrogen atom and the P=O oxygen atom. These non-covalent interactions create ribbons that run along the b -axis direction.

  5. This study successfully implemented microcrystal electron diffraction (microED) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) for the crystal structure determination of a new phase, TAF-CNU-1, Ni(C8H4O4)·3H2O, solved by microED from single microcrystals in the powder and refined at the kinematic and dynamic electron diffraction theory levels. This nickel metal–organic framework (MOF), together with its cobalt and manganese analogues with formula M(C8H4O4)·2H2O with M = MnII or CoII, were synthesized in aqueous media as one-pot preparations from the corresponding hydrated metal chlorides and sodium terephthalate, as a promising ‘green’ synthetic route to moisture stable MOFs. The crystal structures of the two latter materials have been previously determined ab initio from X-ray powder diffraction. The advantages and disadvantages of both structural characterization techniques are briefly summarized. Additional solid-state property characterization was carried out using thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
