Title: Searches for Pair-Produced Multijet Resonances Using Data Scouting in Proton-Proton Collisions at s=13  TeV
Searches for pair-produced multijet signatures using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 128  fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at s =13  TeV are presented. A data scouting technique is employed to record events with low jet scalar transverse momentum sum values. The electroweak production of particles predicted in R -parity violating supersymmetric models is probed for the first time with fully hadronic final states. This is the first search for prompt hadronically decaying mass-degenerate higgsinos, and extends current exclusions on R -parity violating top squarks and gluinos. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2024CERN  more » « less

  1. The first search for singly produced narrow resonances decaying to three well-separated hadronic jets is presented. The search uses proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138  fb−1 at s=13  TeV , collected at the CERN LHC. No significant deviations from the background predictions are observed between 1.75 and 9.00 TeV. The results provide the first mass limits on a right-handed boson ZR decaying to three gluons and on an excited quark decaying via a vector boson to three quarks, as well as updated limits on a Kaluza-Klein gluon decaying via a radion to three gluons. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2024CERN

  2. PRD (Ed.)
A search for heavy neutral gauge bosons ( Z′ ) decaying into a pair of tau leptons is performed in proton-proton collisions at s=13  TeV at the CERN LHC. The data were collected with the CMS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138  fb−1 . The observations are found to be in agreement with the expectation from standard model processes. Limits at 95% confidence level are set on the product of the Z′ production cross section and its branching fraction to tau lepton pairs for a range of Z′ boson masses. For a narrow resonance in the sequential standard model scenario, a Z′ boson with a mass below 3.5 TeV is excluded. This is the most stringent limit to date from this type of search. © 2025 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2025CERN

  3. A search is presented for an extended Higgs sector with two new particles, X and ϕ , in the process X→ϕϕ→(γγ)(γγ) . Novel neural networks classify events with diphotons that are merged and determine the diphoton masses. The search uses LHC proton-proton collision data at s =13  TeV collected with the CMS detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138  fb−1 . No evidence of such resonances is seen. Upper limits are set on the production cross section for mX between 300 and 3000 GeV and mϕ/mX between 0.5% and 2.5%, representing the most sensitive search in this channel. © 2025 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2025CERN

  4. Nuclear medium effects on B+ meson production are studied using the binary-collision scaled cross section ratio between events of different charged-particle multiplicities from proton-lead collisions. Data, collected by the CMS experiment in 2016 at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of sNN =8.16  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 175  nb−1 , were used. The scaling factors in the ratio are determined using a novel approach based on the Z→μ−μ+ cross sections measured in the same events. The scaled ratio for B+ is consistent with unity for all event multiplicities, putting stringent constraints on nuclear modification for heavy flavor. © 2025 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2025CERN

  5. A search for pair production of scalar and vector leptoquarks (LQs) each decaying to a muon and a bottom quark is performed using proton-proton collision data collected at s=13  TeV with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138  fb−1 . No excess above standard model expectation is observed. Scalar (vector) LQs with masses less than 1810 (2120) GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level, assuming a 100% branching fraction of the LQ decaying to a muon and a bottom quark. These limits represent the most stringent to date. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2024CERN
