Title: First Joint Oscillation Analysis of Super-Kamiokande Atmospheric and T2K Accelerator Neutrino Data
The Super-Kamiokande and T2K Collaborations present a joint measurement of neutrino oscillation parameters from their atmospheric and beam neutrino data. It uses a common interaction model for events overlapping in neutrino energy and correlated detector systematic uncertainties between the two datasets, which are found to be compatible. Using 3244.4 days of atmospheric data and a beam exposure of 19.7 ( 16.3 ) × 10 20 protons on target in (anti)neutrino mode, the analysis finds a 1.9 σ exclusion of C P conservation (defined as J C P = 0 ) and a 1.2 σ exclusion of the inverted mass ordering. 1. A search for hidden-charm pentaquark states decaying to a range of Σ c D ¯ and Λ c + D ¯ final states, as well as doubly charmed pentaquark states to Σ c D and Λ c + D , is made using samples of proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.7 fb 1 recorded by the LHCb detector at s = 13 TeV . Since no significant signals are found, upper limits are set on the pentaquark yields relative to that of the Λ c + baryon in the Λ c + p K π + decay mode. The known pentaquark states are also investigated, and their signal yields are found to be consistent with zero in all cases. © 2024 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2024CERN

  2. The first results of the study of high-energy electron neutrino ( ν e ) and muon neutrino ( ν μ ) charged-current interactions in the FASER ν emulsion-tungsten detector of the FASER experiment at the LHC are presented. A 128.8 kg subset of the FASER ν volume was analyzed after exposure to 9.5 fb 1 of s = 13.6 TeV p p data. Four (eight) ν e ( ν μ ) interaction candidate events are observed with a statistical significance of 5.2 σ ( 5.7 σ ). This is the first direct observation of ν e interactions at a particle collider and includes the highest-energy ν e and ν μ ever detected from an artificial source. The interaction cross section per nucleon σ / E ν is measured over an energy range of 560–1740 GeV (520–1760 GeV) for ν e ( ν μ ) to be ( 1.2 0.7 + 0.8 ) × 10 38 cm 2 GeV 1 [ ( 0.5 ± 0.2 ) × 10 38 cm 2 GeV 1 ], consistent with standard model predictions. These are the first measurements of neutrino interaction cross sections in those energy ranges. Published by the American Physical Society2024

  3. We employ first-principles quantum field theoretical methods to investigate the longitudinal and transverse electrical conductivities of a strongly magnetized hot quantum electrodynamics (QED) plasma at the leading order in coupling. The analysis employs the fermion damping rate in the Landau-level representation, calculated with full kinematics and exact amplitudes of one-to-two and two-to-one QED processes. In the relativistic regime, both conductivities exhibit an approximate scaling behavior described by σ , = T σ ˜ , , where σ ˜ , are functions of the dimensionless ratio | e B | / T 2 (with T denoting temperature and B magnetic field strength). We argue that the mechanisms for the transverse and longitudinal conductivities differ significantly, leading to a strong suppression of the former in comparison to the latter. 4. In this Letter, we perform fits to B P P decays, where B = { B 0 , B + , B s 0 } and the pseudoscalar P = { π , K } , under the assumption of flavor SU(3) symmetry [ SU ( 3 ) F ]. Although the fits to Δ S = 0 or Δ S = 1 decays individually are good, the combined fit is very poor: there is a 3.6 σ disagreement with the SU ( 3 ) F limit of the standard model ( SM SU ( 3 ) F ). One can remove this discrepancy by adding SU ( 3 ) F -breaking effects, but 1000% SU ( 3 ) F breaking is required. The above results are rigorous, group theoretically—no dynamical assumptions have been made. When one adds an assumption motivated by QCD factorization, the discrepancy with the SM SU ( 3 ) F grows to 4.4 σ . Published by the American Physical Society2024

  5. We present a comprehensive study of B 0 ω ω decays using 772 × 10 6 B B ¯ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e collider. This process is a suppressed charmless decay into two vector mesons and can exhibit interesting polarization and C P violation. The decay is observed for the first time with a significance of 7.9 standard deviations. We measure a branching fraction B = ( 1.53 ± 0.29 ± 0.17 ) × 10 6 , a fraction of longitudinal polarization f L = 0.87 ± 0.13 ± 0.13 , and a time-integrated C P asymmetry A C P = 0.44 ± 0.43 ± 0.11 , where the first uncertainties listed are statistical and the second are systematic. This is the first observation of B 0 ω ω and the first measurements of f L and A C P for this decay. Published by the American Physical Society2024
