Title: First Determination of the Spin-Parity of Ξc(3055)+,0 Baryons
The Ξb0() Ξc (3055)+(0)(D+(0)Λ)π decay chains are observed, and the spin-parity of Ξc(3055)+(0) baryons is determined for the first time. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of s=13TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4fb1 , recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018. The spin-parity of the Ξc (3055)+(0) baryons is determined to be 3/2+ with a significance of more than 6.5σ ( 3.5σ ) compared to all other tested hypotheses. The up-down asymmetries of the Ξb0() Ξc (3055)+(0)π transitions are measured to be 0.92±0.10±0.05 ( 0.92±0.16±0.22 ), consistent with maximal parity violation, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These results support the hypothesis that the Ξc(3055)+(0) baryons correspond to the first D -wave λ -mode excitation of the Ξc flavor triplet. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN  more » « less

  1. The first observation of the decay Ξb ψ(2S) Ξ and measurement of the branching ratio of Ξb ψ(2S) Ξ to ΞbJ/ψΞ are presented. The J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are reconstructed using their dimuon decay modes. The results are based on proton-proton colliding beam data from the LHC collected by the CMS experiment at s=13TeV in 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140fb1 . The branching fraction ratio is measured to be B( Ξb ψ(2S) Ξ )/B( Ξb J/ψΞ )=0.8 40.19+0.21 (stat)±0.10(syst)±0.02(B) , where the last uncertainty comes from the uncertainties in the branching fractions of the charmonium states. New measurements of the Ξb(5945)0 baryon mass and natural width are also presented, using the Ξbπ+ final state, where the Ξb baryon is reconstructed through the decays J/ψΞ , ψ(2S) Ξ , J/ψΛK , and J/ψΣ0K . Finally, the fraction of Ξb baryons produced from Ξb(5945)0 decays is determined. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2024CERN

  2. We report the results of the first search for B decays to the Ξ¯ c0 Λ¯ c final state using 711fb1 of data collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating B decay and Ξc0 Ξ¯ c0 oscillations which follow the standard model decay B Ξc0 Λ¯ c . We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and standard model branching fractions B(B Ξ¯ c0 Λ¯ c ) / B(B Ξc0 Λ¯ c ) to be <2.7% and on the effective angular frequency of mixing ω in Ξc0 Ξ¯ c0 oscillations to be <0.76ps1 (equivalent to τmix >1.3ps ). 3. The decay B0 Λc+ Λ¯ c KS0 is studied at LHCb for the first time using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of s=13TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4fb1 . The branching ratio relative to the decay B+ Λc+ Λ¯ c K+ is measured to be [ B(B0 Λc+ Λ¯ c KS0 )]/[B(B+ Λc+ Λ¯ c K+)]=0.53±0.05±0.05 where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Evidence is found for contributions from two resonant states, Ξc(2923)+ and Ξc(2939)+ , in the Λc+KS0 system. The two states show a significance of 3.9σ relative to the nonresonant hypothesis. These two Ξc+ states are consistent with being the isospin partners of the states observed in the Λc+K system.

  4. The Ξc+ ππ+ spectrum is investigated using proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4fb1 , collected by the LHCb experiment during 2016–2018. Four states are observed with high significance, and their masses and widths are measured to be m[ Ξc (2815)+]=2816.65±0.03±0.03±0.23MeV , Γ[ Ξc (2815)+]=2.07±0.08±0.12MeV , m[ Ξc (2923)+]=2922.8±0.3±0.5±0.2MeV , Γ[ Ξc (2923)+]=5.3±0.9±1.4MeV , m[ Ξc (2970)+]=2968.6±0.5±0.5±0.2MeV , Γ[ Ξc (2970)+]=31.7±1.7±1.9MeV , m[ Ξc (3080)+]=3076.8±0.7±1.3±0.2MeV , Γ[ Ξc (3080)+]=6.8±2.3±0.9MeV , where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the limited precision on the Ξc+ mass, respectively. The Ξc(2923)+ baryon is observed for the first time, and is consistent with being the isospin partner of the previously observed Ξc(2923)0 state. Most of the measured parameters are more precise than existing world averages.

  5. A study of Λb0 and Ξb0 decays to Λh+h ( h()=π,K ) is performed using pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment during LHC Runs 1–2, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb1 . The branching fractions for these decays are measured using the Λb0 Λc+ (Λπ+)π decay as a control channel. The decays Λb0Λπ+π and Ξb0ΛKπ+ are observed for the first time. For decay modes with sufficient signal yields, CP asymmetries are measured in the full and localized regions of the final-state phase space. Evidence is found for CP violation in the Λb0ΛK+K decay, interpreted as originating primarily from an asymmetric Λb0N*+K decay amplitude. The measured CP asymmetries for other decays are compatible with zero. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN
