			<abstract><ab><![CDATA[<title>Abstract</title> <p>The taxonomy of the<italic>Parachela–Oxygaster–Macrochirichthys</italic>clade of Xenocyprididae has been confused since the original descriptions of<italic>Parachela oxygastroides</italic>and<italic>Parachela hypophthalmus</italic>in the mid‐19th century. The confusion seems attributable to the substantial intraspecific variation in color and other morphological characteristics of species of<italic>Oxygaster</italic>and<italic>Parachela</italic>. Morphological data on 401 specimens from throughout the range of<italic>Parachela</italic>and molecular phylogenetic analyses indicate that six available species names for<italic>Parachela</italic>are valid:<italic>Parachela cyanea</italic>,<italic>P. hypophthalmus</italic>,<italic>Parachela ingerkongi</italic>,<italic>Parachela johorensis</italic>(removed from the synonymy of<italic>P. oxygastroides</italic>),<italic>P. oxygastroides</italic>, and<italic>Parachela williaminae</italic>. In addition, two new species of<italic>Parachela</italic>,<italic>Parachela melanosticta</italic>and<italic>Parachela microlepis</italic>, are described.<italic>Chela pointoni</italic>is a synonym of<italic>P. oxygastroides</italic>, not a valid species of<italic>Oxygaster</italic>as previously hypothesized, and<italic>Parachela maculicauda</italic>is a synonym of<italic>Parachela johorensis</italic>. Considerable morphological and genetic variation is present in all well‐sampled species of<italic>Parachela</italic>.</p>]]></ab></abstract>
