This dataset contains bottle-calibrated dissolved oxygen (DO) profiles collected from Conductivity Temperature Depth (CTD) casts on turn-around cruises performed yearly to maintain the Ocean Observations Initiative (OOI) Global Irminger Sea Array (60.46°N, 38.44°W). DO profiles were used in conjunction with oxygen bottle measurements (Winklers) to produce a post-cruise oxygen-calibrated CTD product for scientific use. Bottle-calibrated CTD salinity products were used to produce post-cruise oxygen-calibrated CTD profiles starting in 2018 (Year 5). This document contains overviews of CTD data collection and processing and post-processing oxygen sensor calibration method. Reports for each cruise include a summary of relevant cruise events, oxygen sensor calibration results, and issues/problems associated with oxygen data collected on each cruise. This dataset has been created for end-users that require field-calibrated oxygen data products that are currently not provided by OOI through its standard data dissemination.

CTD Bottle Data from R/V Sally Ride cruise SR2114 in the Eastern Tropical North Pacific, December 2021–January 2022 (N-loss in the ETNP ODZ project)
This dataset contains results from Niskin bottle samples collected during CTD casts taken for nutrient concentration as well as the N isotopic composition of nitrate (NO3-). Corresponding CTD data measured at the same depths as the bottle samples are also included within the primary data file. CTD casts were carried out at fixed stations along the ship’s track to calibrate float sensor results as well as document variability associated with mesoscale features. The associated cruise on the R/V Sally Ride, cruise SR2114, took place between 21 Dec 2021 and 21 Jan 2022 along a track between Costa Rica and San Diego, USA, transecting the oxygen-deficient zone (ODZ) of the Eastern Tropical North Pacific. This cruise was in support of an NSF-funded project to develop an autonomous float array to study nitrogen loss (N-loss) processes in this region.

This dataset contains bottle-calibrated dissolved oxygen (DO) profiles collected from Conductivity Temperature Depth (CTD) casts during cruises in 2020 (AR45) and 2022 (AR69-03) to recover and redeploy Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Program (OSNAP) moorings in the Labrador Sea and western Irminger Sea. DO profiles were used in conjunction with oxygen bottle measurements (Winklers) to produce a post-cruise oxygen-calibrated CTD product for scientific use as part of Gases in the Overturning and Horizontal circulation of the Subpolar North Atlantic Program (GOHSNAP), which has added moored oxygen sensors to the OSNAP mooring array, beginning in 2020. This documentation contains overviews of CTD data collection and processing and of the oxygen sensor calibration method. For each cruise, we provide a summary of relevant cruise events, oxygen sensor calibration results, and issues/problems associated with oxygen data collected.more » « less

This package provides a table of cruises to the Martha's Vineyard Coastal Observatory for Northeast U.S. Shelf Long-Term Ecological Research (NES-LTER). The majority of events are single day cruises, however, samples missing an MVCO Event Number were collected on multi-day NES-LTER transect cruises aboard larger research vessels. The same sampling protocols for CTD and bongo collection are used on both cruise types. Sampling frequency is approximately monthly, with NES-LTER sampling ongoing since 2017. Cruises involve collection of water column bottle samples, surface bucket samples, and zooplankton net tow samples, as well as ship-provided data. NES-LTER transect cruises will have more extensive underway and acoustic data which can be found by searching by cruise at https://www.rvdata.us/data. The event number for each cruise is provided, along with date, vessel name, cruise identifier where applicable, link to data location (for CTD, ADCP, and other underway data), and checklist of six data types.more » « less

Samples for the analysis of dissolved nutrients were collected during the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) from the water column, sea ice cores and from special events/locations (e.g., leads, melt ponds, brine, incubation experiments). Samples for dissolved inorganic nutrients (NO3 +NO2 , NO2 , PO4 , Si(OH)4, NH4 ) were analysed onboard during PS122 legs 1 to 3, with duplicate samples collected from CTD casts for later analysis of total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) and total dissolved phosphorus (TDP). From leg 4, all samples collected were stored frozen at -20°C for later analysis. Analyses of stored samples were carried out at the AWI Nutrient Facility between January and March 2021. Nutrient analyses onboard and on land were carried out using a Seal Analytical AA3 continuous flow autoanalyser, controlled by the AACE software version 7.09. Best practice procedures for the measurement of nutrients were adopted following GO-SHIP recommendations (Hydes et al., 2010; Becker et al., 2019). Descriptions of sample collection and handling can be found in the various cruise reports (Haas & Rabe, 2023; Kanzow & Damm, 2023; Rex & Metfies, 2023; Rex & Nicolaus, 2023; Rex & Shupe, 2023). Here we provide data from the water column, obtained from the analysis of discrete samples collected from CTD-Rosette casts from Polarstern (https://sensor.awi.de/?site=search&q=vessel:polarstern:ctd_sbe9plus_321) and Ocean City (https://sensor.awi.de/?site=search&q=vessel:polarstern:ctd_sbe9plus_935). Data from sea ice cores and special events are presented elsewhere. Data from sea ice cores and special events are presented elsewhere. For reference, here we included data from CTD-BTL files associated with nutrient samples. These data are presented by Tippenhauer et al. (2023) Polarstern CTD and Tippenhauer et al. (2023) Ocean City CTD.more » « less
