Title: Reactivity of gold and copper acetylide with a secondary borane
Bis(1-methyl-ortho-carboranyl)borane reacts with PPh3Au acetylide to give an η2-1-borataallene Au complex while the Cu acetylide furnishes a CuPPh3+alkynylborate complex with a hydride bridging boron to copper.  more » « less

  1. Abstract Reaction of (P)AuOTf [P=P(t‐Bu)2o‐biphenyl] with indenyl‐ or 3‐methylindenyl lithium led to isolation of gold η1‐indenyl complexes (P)Au(η1‐inden‐1‐yl) (1 a) and (P)Au(η1‐3‐methylinden‐1‐yl) (1 b), respectively, in >65 % yield. Whereas complex1 bis static, complex1 aundergoes facile, degenerate 1,3‐migration of gold about the indenyl ligand (ΔG≠153K=9.1±1.1 kcal/mol). Treatment of complexes1 aand1 bwith (P)AuNTf2led to formation of the corresponding cationic bis(gold) indenyl complexestrans‐[(P)Au]2(η1,η1‐inden‐1,3‐yl) (2 a) andtrans‐[(P)Au]2(η1,η2‐3‐methylinden‐1‐yl) (2 b), respectively, which were characterized spectroscopically and modeled computationally. Despite the absence of aurophilic stabilization in complexes2 aand2 b, the binding affinity of mono(gold) complex1 atoward exogenous (P)Au+exceed that of free indene by ~350‐fold and similarly the binding affinity of1 btoward exogenous (P)Au+exceed that of 3‐methylindene by ~50‐fold. The energy barrier for protodeauration of bis(gold) indenyl complex2 awith HOAc was ≥8 kcal/mol higher than for protodeauration of mono(gold) complex1 a.

  2. Abstract Detecting planet signatures in protoplanetary disks is fundamental to understanding how and where planets form. In this work, we report dust and gas observational hints of planet formation in the disk around 2MASS J16120668-301027, as part of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) Large Program “AGE-PRO: ALMA survey of Gas Evolution in Protoplanetary disks.” The disk was imaged with the ALMA at Band 6 (1.3 mm) in dust continuum emission and four molecular lines:12CO(J= 2–1),13CO(J= 2–1), C18O(J= 2–1), and H2CO(J= 3(3,0)–2(2,0)). Resolved observations of the dust continuum emission (angular resolution of ∼150 mas, 20 au) show a ring-like structure with a peak at 0.″57 (75 au), a deep gap with a minimum at 0.″24 (31 au), an inner disk, a bridge connecting the inner disk and the outer ring, along with a spiral arm structure, and a tentative detection (to 3σ) of a compact emission at the center of the disk gap, with an estimated dust mass of ∼2.7−12.9 Lunar masses. We also detected a kinematic kink (not coincident with any dust substructure) through several12CO channel maps (angular resolution ∼200 mas, 30 au), located at a radius of ∼0.″875 (115.6 au). After modeling the12CO velocity rotation around the protostar, we identified a purple tentative rotating-like structure at the kink location with a geometry similar to that of the disk. We discuss potential explanations for the dust and gas substructures observed in the disk and their potential connection to signatures of planet formation.

  3. Context.Recent studies indicate that the formation of planets in protoplanetary disks begins early in the embedded Class 0/I phases of protostellar evolution. The physical and chemical makeup of the embedded phase can provide valuable insights into the process of star and planet formation. Aims. This study aims to provide a thorough overview of the various morphologies for molecular emissions observed on disk scales (≲100 au) toward nearby embedded sources. Methods. We present high angular resolution (0⋅′′1, ~ 15 au) molecular line emissions for12CO,13CO, C18O, SO, SiO, DCN, CH3OH, H2CO, andc–C3H2toward 19 nearby protostellar sources in the context of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) Large Program “Early Planet Formation in Embedded Disks (eDisk).” Results.Emissions in12CO are seen toward all sources and primarily trace outflowing materials. A few sources also show high-velocity jets in SiO emission and high-velocity channel maps of12CO. The13CO and C18O emissions are well-known tracers of high-density regions and trace the inner envelope and disk regions with clear signs of rotation seen at continuum scales. The large-scale emissions of13CO also delineate the outflow cavity walls where the outflowing and infalling materials interact with each other, and exposure to UV radiation leads to the formation of hydrocarbons such asc–C3H2. Both DCN and CH3OH, when detected, show compact emissions from the inner envelope and disk regions that peak at the position of the protostar. The CH3OH emissions are contained within the region of DCN emissions, which suggests that CH3OH traces the hot core regions. Likewise, a few sources, also display emissions in CH3OH toward the outflow. Both SO and H2CO show complex morphology among the sources, suggesting that they are formed through multiple processes in protostellar systems.

  4. Abstract Sterically loaded, anionic pyridine has been synthesized and utilized successfully in the stabilization of a isoleptic series of coinage metal complexes. The treatment of [4‐(Ph3B)‐2,6‐Trip2Py]K (Trip=2,4,6‐iPr3C6H2) with CuBr(PPh3), AgCl(PPh3) or AuCl(PPh3) (Py=pyridine) afforded the corresponding [4‐(Ph3B)‐2,6‐Trip2Py]M(PPh3) (M=Au, Ag, Cu) complexes, via salt metathesis, as isolable, crystalline solids. Notably, these reactions avoid the facile single electron transfer chemistry reported with the less bulky ligand systems. The X‐ray structures revealed that they are two‐coordinate metal adducts. The M−N and M−P bond distances are longest in the silver and shortest in the copper adduct among the three group 11 family members. Computational analysis revealed an interesting stability dependence on steric bulk of the anionic pyridine (i. e., pyridyl borate) ligand. A comparison of structures and bonding of [4‐(Ph3B)‐2,6‐Trip2Py]Au(PPh3) to pyridine andm‐terphenyl complexes, {[2,6‐Trip2Py]Au(PPh3)}[SbF6] and [2,6‐Trip2Ph]Au(PPh3) are also provided. The Au(I) isocyanide complex, [4‐(Ph3B)‐2,6‐Trip2Py]Au(CNBut) has been stabilized using the same anionic pyridylborate illustrating that it can support other gold‐ligand moieties as well.

  5. Abstract We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations of the Class 0 protostar IRAS 04166+2706, obtained as part of the ALMA Large Program Early Planet Formation in Embedded Disks. These observations were made in the 1.3 mm dust continuum and molecular lines at angular resolutions of ∼0.″05 (∼8 au) and ∼0.″16 (∼25 au), respectively. The continuum emission shows a disklike structure with a radius of ∼22 au. Kinematical analysis of13CO (2–1), C18O (2–1), H2CO (30,3–20,2), CH3OH (42–31) emission demonstrates that these molecular lines trace the infalling-rotating envelope and possibly a Keplerian disk, enabling us to estimate the protostar mass to be 0.15M⊙ < M⋆ < 0.39M⊙. The dusty disk is found to exhibit a brightness asymmetry along its minor axis in the continuum emission, probably caused by a flared distribution of the dust and the high optical depth of the dust emission. In addition, the12CO (2–1) and SiO (5–4) emissions show knotty and wiggling motions in the jets. Our high-angular-resolution observations revealed the most recent mass ejection events, which have occurred within the last ∼25 yr.
