Title: Measurements of ϒ states production in p+p collisions at s=500  GeV with STAR: Cross sections, ratios, and multiplicity dependence
We report measurements of ϒ ( 1 S ) , ϒ ( 2 S ) and ϒ ( 3 S ) production in p + p collisions at s = 500 GeV by the STAR experiment in year 2011, corresponding to an integrated luminosity L int = 13 pb 1 . The results provide precise cross sections, transverse momentum ( p T ) and rapidity ( y ) spectra, as well as cross section ratios for p T < 10 GeV / c and | y | < 1 . The dependence of the ϒ yield on charged particle multiplicity has also been measured, offering new insights into the mechanisms of quarkonium production. The data are compared to various theoretical models: the color evaporation model (CEM) accurately describes the ϒ ( 1 S ) production, while the color glass condensate + nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics ( CGC + NRQCD ) model overestimates the data, particularly at low p T . Conversely, the color singlet model (CSM) underestimates the rapidity dependence. These discrepancies highlight the need for further development in understanding the production dynamics of heavy quarkonia in high-energy hadronic collisions. The trend in the multiplicity dependence is consistent with CGC/saturation and string percolation models or ϒ production happening in multiple parton interactions modeled by 8.  more » « less

  1. We present an analysis of the processes e + e η ϒ ( 1 S ) , η ϒ ( 2 S ) , and γ X b with X b π + π χ b J , χ b J γ ϒ ( 1 S ) ( J = 1 , 2) reconstructed from γ γ π + π + ( = e , μ ) final states in 19.6 fb 1 of Belle II data collected at four energy points near the peak of the ϒ ( 10753 ) resonance. Here, X b is a hypothetical bottomonium-sector partner of the X ( 3872 ) . In the process e + e η ϒ ( 2 S ) , we observe a signal with a significance that exceeds 6.0 σ when all energy points are combined. A signal with a significance of 4.2 σ is observed at a center-of-mass energy of 10.653 GeV, close to the B * B ¯ * threshold. At this energy, we measure σ ( η ϒ ( 2 S ) ) / σ ( π + π ϒ ( 2 S ) ) > 23 at the 90% confidence level, indicating a strong violation of heavy-quark spin symmetry. No significant signal is observed for e + e η ϒ ( 1 S ) or γ X b . Upper limits on the Born cross sections for the processes e + e η ϒ ( 1 S ) and e + e γ X b with X b π + π χ b J are determined.

  2. The production of ϒ ( 2 S ) and ϒ ( 3 S ) mesons in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton ( p p ) collisions is studied in their dimuon decay channel using the CMS detector at the LHC. The ϒ ( 3 S ) meson is observed for the first time in Pb-Pb collisions, with a significance above 5 standard deviations. The ratios of yields measured in Pb-Pb and p p collisions are reported for both the ϒ ( 2 S ) and ϒ ( 3 S ) mesons, as functions of transverse momentum and Pb-Pb collision centrality. These ratios, when appropriately scaled, are significantly less than unity, indicating a suppression of ϒ yields in Pb-Pb collisions. This suppression increases from peripheral to central Pb-Pb collisions. Furthermore, the suppression is stronger for ϒ ( 3 S ) mesons compared to ϒ ( 2 S ) mesons, extending the pattern of sequential suppression of quarkonium states in nuclear collisions previously seen for the J / ψ , ψ ( 2 S ) , ϒ ( 1 S ) , and ϒ ( 2 S ) mesons. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2024CERN

  3. We report the first evidence for the h b ( 2 P ) ϒ ( 1 S ) η transition with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations. The decay branching fraction is measured to be B [ h b ( 2 P ) ϒ ( 1 S ) η ] = ( 7.1 3.2 + 3.7 ± 0.8 ) × 10 3 , which is noticeably smaller than expected. We also set upper limits on π 0 transitions of B [ h b ( 2 P ) ϒ ( 1 S ) π 0 ] < 1.8 × 10 3 , and B [ h b ( 1 P ) ϒ ( 1 S ) π 0 ] < 1.8 × 10 3 , at the 90% confidence level. These results are obtained with a 131.4 fb 1 data sample collected near the ϒ ( 5 S ) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e collider. 4. The production yields of the orbitally excited charm-strange mesons D s 1 ( 1 + ) ( 2536 ) + and D s 2 * ( 2 + ) ( 2573 ) + were measured for the first time in proton-proton (pp) collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The D s 1 + and D s 2 * + mesons were measured at midrapidity ( | y | < 0.5 ) in minimum-bias and high-multiplicity pp collisions in the transverse-momentum interval 2 < p T < 24 GeV / c . Their production yields relative to the D s + ground-state yield were found to be compatible between minimum-bias and high-multiplicity collisions, as well as with previous measurements in e ± p and e + e collisions. The measured D s 1 + / D s + and D s 2 * + / D s + yield ratios are described by statistical hadronization models and can be used to tune the parameters governing the production of excited charm-strange hadrons in Monte Carlo generators, such as 8.

  5. The ratio of branching fractions R ( D * ) = B ( B ¯ D * τ ν ¯ τ ) / B ( B ¯ D * ν ¯ ) , where is an electron or muon, is measured using a Belle II data sample with an integrated luminosity of 189 fb 1 at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e + e collider. Data is collected at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance, and one B meson in the ϒ ( 4 S ) B B ¯ decay is fully reconstructed in hadronic decay modes. The accompanying signal B meson is reconstructed as B ¯ D * τ ν ¯ τ using leptonic τ decays. The normalization decay, B ¯ D * ν ¯ , produces the same observable final-state particles. The ratio of branching fractions is extracted in a simultaneous fit to two signal-discriminating variables in both channels and yields R ( D * ) = 0.262 0.039 + 0.041 ( stat ) 0.032 + 0.035 ( syst ) . This result is consistent with the current world average and with Standard Model predictions. Published by the American Physical Society2024
