Title: Energy Independence of the Collins Asymmetry in p↑p Collisions
The STAR experiment reports new, high-precision measurements of the transverse single-spin asymmetries for π ± within jets, namely the Collins asymmetries, from transversely polarized p p collisions at s = 510 GeV . The energy-scaled distribution of jet transverse momentum, x T = 2 p T , jet / s , shows a remarkable consistency for Collins asymmetries of π ± in jets between s = 200 GeV and 510 GeV. This indicates that the Collins asymmetries are nearly energy independent, with, at most, a very weak scale dependence in p p collisions. These results extend to high-momentum scales ( Q 2 3400 GeV 2 ) and enable unique tests of evolution and universality in the transverse-momentum-dependent formalism, thus providing important constraints for the Collins fragmentation functions.  more » « less

  1. The production yields of the orbitally excited charm-strange mesons D s 1 ( 1 + ) ( 2536 ) + and D s 2 * ( 2 + ) ( 2573 ) + were measured for the first time in proton-proton (pp) collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The D s 1 + and D s 2 * + mesons were measured at midrapidity ( | y | < 0.5 ) in minimum-bias and high-multiplicity pp collisions in the transverse-momentum interval 2 < p T < 24 GeV / c . Their production yields relative to the D s + ground-state yield were found to be compatible between minimum-bias and high-multiplicity collisions, as well as with previous measurements in e ± p and e + e collisions. The measured D s 1 + / D s + and D s 2 * + / D s + yield ratios are described by statistical hadronization models and can be used to tune the parameters governing the production of excited charm-strange hadrons in Monte Carlo generators, such as 8.

  2. We report a new measurement of transverse single-spin asymmetries for dijet production in collisions of polarized protons at s = 200 GeV . Correlations between the proton spin and the transverse momenta of its partons, each perpendicular to the proton momentum direction, are probed at high Q 2 160 GeV 2 . Evidence for nonzero Sivers effects is measured for the first time in dijets from proton-proton collisions, but only when the jets are sorted by their net charge, which enhances the otherwise canceling opposite-sign u - or d -quark contributions to separate data samples. The resulting asymmetries are compared to recent theoretical calculations. Separately, the associated Sivers observable k T , the average parton transverse momentum, is extracted using a simple kinematics approach which further enables a determination of the individual partonic contributions to the observed asymmetries.

  3. K + K pairs may be produced in photonuclear collisions, either from the decays of photoproduced ϕ ( 1020 ) mesons or directly as nonresonant K + K pairs. Measurements of K + K photoproduction probe the couplings between the ϕ ( 1020 ) and charged kaons with photons and nuclear targets. The kaon-proton scattering occurs at energies far above those available elsewhere. We present the first measurement of coherent photoproduction of K + K pairs on lead ions in ultraperipheral collisions using the ALICE detector, including the first investigation of direct K + K production. There is significant K + K production at low transverse momentum, consistent with coherent photoproduction on lead targets. In the mass range 1.1 < M K K < 1.4 GeV / c 2 above the ϕ ( 1020 ) resonance, for rapidity | y K K | < 0.8 and p T , K K < 0.1 GeV / c , the measured coherent photoproduction cross section is d σ / d y = 3.37 ± 0.61 ( stat ) ± 0.15 ( syst ) mb . The center-of-mass energy per nucleon of the photon-nucleus (Pb) system W γ Pb , n ranges from 33 to 188 GeV, far higher than previous measurements on heavy-nucleus targets. The cross section is larger than expected for ϕ ( 1020 ) photoproduction alone. The mass spectrum is fit to a cocktail consisting of ϕ ( 1020 ) decays, direct K + K photoproduction, and interference between the two.   4. We search for the e + e γ χ b J ( J = 0 , 1, 2) processes at center-of-mass energies s = 10.653 , 10.701, 10.746, and 10.804 GeV. These data were collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider and correspond to 3.5, 1.6, 9.8, and 4.7 fb 1 of integrated luminosity, respectively. We set upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the Born cross sections for e + e γ χ b J at each center-of-mass energy s near 10.746 GeV. The upper limits at 90% confidence level on the Born cross sections for e + e γ χ b 1 are significantly smaller than the corresponding measured values for e + e ω χ b 1 and e + e π + π ϒ ( 2 S ) at s = 10.746 GeV

  5. The Ξ b 0 ( ) Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) ( D + ( 0 ) Λ ) π decay chains are observed, and the spin-parity of Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons is determined for the first time. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb 1 , recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018. The spin-parity of the Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons is determined to be 3 / 2 + with a significance of more than 6.5 σ ( 3.5 σ ) compared to all other tested hypotheses. The up-down asymmetries of the Ξ b 0 ( ) Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) π transitions are measured to be 0.92 ± 0.10 ± 0.05 ( 0.92 ± 0.16 ± 0.22 ), consistent with maximal parity violation, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These results support the hypothesis that the Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons correspond to the first D -wave λ -mode excitation of the Ξ c flavor triplet. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN
