The production yields of the orbitally excited charm-strange mesons and were measured for the first time in proton-proton (pp) collisions at a center-of-mass energy of with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The and mesons were measured at midrapidity ( ) in minimum-bias and high-multiplicity pp collisions in the transverse-momentum interval . Their production yields relative to the ground-state yield were found to be compatible between minimum-bias and high-multiplicity collisions, as well as with previous measurements in and collisions. The measured and yield ratios are described by statistical hadronization models and can be used to tune the parameters governing the production of excited charm-strange hadrons in Monte Carlo generators, such as 8.

Energy Independence of the Collins Asymmetry in p↑p Collisions
The STAR experiment reports new, high-precision measurements of the transverse single-spin asymmetries for within jets, namely the Collins asymmetries, from transversely polarized collisions at . The energy-scaled distribution of jet transverse momentum, , shows a remarkable consistency for Collins asymmetries of in jets between and 510 GeV. This indicates that the Collins asymmetries are nearly energy independent, with, at most, a very weak scale dependence in collisions. These results extend to high-momentum scales ( ) and enable unique tests of evolution and universality in the transverse-momentum-dependent formalism, thus providing important constraints for the Collins fragmentation functions.

We report a new measurement of transverse single-spin asymmetries for dijet production in collisions of polarized protons at . Correlations between the proton spin and the transverse momenta of its partons, each perpendicular to the proton momentum direction, are probed at high . Evidence for nonzero Sivers effects is measured for the first time in dijets from proton-proton collisions, but only when the jets are sorted by their net charge, which enhances the otherwise canceling opposite-sign - or -quark contributions to separate data samples. The resulting asymmetries are compared to recent theoretical calculations. Separately, the associated Sivers observable , the average parton transverse momentum, is extracted using a simple kinematics approach which further enables a determination of the individual partonic contributions to the observed asymmetries.more » « less

pairs may be produced in photonuclear collisions, either from the decays of photoproduced mesons or directly as nonresonant pairs. Measurements of photoproduction probe the couplings between the and charged kaons with photons and nuclear targets. The kaon-proton scattering occurs at energies far above those available elsewhere. We present the first measurement of coherent photoproduction of pairs on lead ions in ultraperipheral collisions using the ALICE detector, including the first investigation of direct production. There is significant production at low transverse momentum, consistent with coherent photoproduction on lead targets. In the mass range above the resonance, for rapidity and , the measured coherent photoproduction cross section is . The center-of-mass energy per nucleon of the photon-nucleus (Pb) system ranges from 33 to 188 GeV, far higher than previous measurements on heavy-nucleus targets. The cross section is larger than expected for photoproduction alone. The mass spectrum is fit to a cocktail consisting of decays, direct photoproduction, and interference between the two. We search for the ( , 1, 2) processes at center-of-mass energies , 10.701, 10.746, and 10.804 GeV. These data were collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider and correspond to 3.5, 1.6, 9.8, and of integrated luminosity, respectively. We set upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the Born cross sections for at each center-of-mass energy near 10.746 GeV. The decay chains are observed, and the spin-parity of baryons is determined for the first time. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of , recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018. The spin-parity of the baryons is determined to be with a significance of more than ( ) compared to all other tested hypotheses. The up-down asymmetries of the transitions are measured to be ( ), consistent with maximal parity violation, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.
