Title: Search for neutron decay into an antineutrino and a neutral kaon in 0.401 megaton-years exposure of Super-Kamiokande
We searched for bound neutron decay via n ν ¯ + K 0 predicted by the grand unified theories in 0.401 Mton · years exposure of all pure water phases in the Super-Kamiokande detector. About 4.4 times more data than in the previous search have been analyzed by a new method including a spectrum fit to kaon invariant mass distributions. No significant data excess has been observed in the signal regions. As a result of this analysis, we set a lower limit of 7.8 × 10 32 years on the neutron lifetime at a 90% confidence level.  more » « less

  1. We report the first search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decays B X s ν ν ¯ , where X s is a hadronic system with strangeness equal to 1, in data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e + e collider. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 365 fb 1 collected at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance and 43 fb 1 collected at a center-of-mass energy 60 MeV below resonance for estimation of e + e q q ¯ continuum background. One of the B mesons from the ϒ ( 4 S ) B B ¯ decay is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. The B X s ν ν ¯ decay is reconstructed with a sum-of-exclusives approach that uses 30 X s decay modes. This approach provides high sensitivity to the inclusive decay, despite the presence of two undetected neutrinos. The search is performed in three regions of the X s mass, M X s true , chosen to separate contributions from K , K * ( 892 ) , and heavier strange final states. We do not observe a significant signal and set upper limits at 90% confidence level on the partial branching fractions for the regions 0.0 < M X s true < 0.6 GeV / c 2 , 0.6 < M X s true < 1.0 GeV / c 2 , and 1.0 GeV / c 2 < M X s true of 2.2 × 10 5 , 9.3 × 10 5 , and 30.9 × 10 5 , respectively. Combining the three mass regions, we obtain the upper limit on the branching fraction, B ( B X s ν ν ¯ ) < 3.3 × 10 4

The ratio of branching fractions R ( D * ) = B ( B ¯ D * τ ν ¯ τ ) / B ( B ¯ D * ν ¯ ) , where is an electron or muon, is measured using a Belle II data sample with an integrated luminosity of 189 fb 1 at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e + e collider. Data is collected at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance, and one B meson in the ϒ ( 4 S ) B B ¯ decay is fully reconstructed in hadronic decay modes. The accompanying signal B meson is reconstructed as B ¯ D * τ ν ¯ τ using leptonic τ decays. The normalization decay, B ¯ D * ν ¯ , produces the same observable final-state particles. The ratio of branching fractions is extracted in a simultaneous fit to two signal-discriminating variables in both channels and yields R ( D * ) = 0.262 0.039 + 0.041 ( stat ) 0.032 + 0.035 ( syst ) . We report the results of the first search for B decays to the Ξ ¯ c 0 Λ ¯ c final state using 711 fb 1 of data collected at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating B decay and Ξ c 0 Ξ ¯ c 0 oscillations which follow the standard model decay B Ξ c 0 Λ ¯ c . We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and standard model branching fractions B ( B Ξ ¯ c 0 Λ ¯ c ) / B ( B Ξ c 0 Λ ¯ c ) to be < 2.7 % and on the effective angular frequency of mixing ω in Ξ c 0 Ξ ¯ c 0 oscillations to be < 0.76 ps 1 (equivalent to τ mix > 1.3 ps ). We report the result of a search for the rare decay B 0 γ γ using a combined dataset of 753 × 10 6 B B ¯ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and 387 × 10 6 B B ¯ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment from decays of the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance produced in e + e collisions. A simultaneous fit to the Belle and Belle II data sets yields 11.0 5.5 + 6.5 signal events, corresponding to a 2.5 σ significance. We determine the branching fraction B ( B 0 γ γ ) = ( 3.7 1.8 + 2.2 ( stat ) ± 0.5 ( syst ) ) × 10 8 and set a 90% credibility level upper limit of B ( B 0 γ γ ) < 6.4 × 10 8 . We present a search for the baryon number B and lepton number L violating decays τ Λ π and τ Λ ¯ π produced from the e + e τ + τ process, using a 364 fb 1 data sample collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. No evidence of signal is found in either decay mode, which have | Δ ( B L ) | equal to 2 and 0, respectively. Upper limits at 90% credibility level on the branching fractions of τ Λ π and τ Λ ¯ π are determined to be 4.7 × 10 8 and 4.3 × 10 8 , respectively. Published by the American Physical Society2024
