Title: Antiprotons and Elementary Particles over a Solar Cycle: Results from the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer
We present results over an 11-year Solar cycle of cosmic antiprotons based on 1.1 × 10 6 events in the rigidity range from 1.00 to 41.9 GV. The p ¯ fluxes exhibit distinct properties. The magnitude of the p ¯ flux temporal variation is significantly smaller than those of p , e , and e + . A hysteresis between the p ¯ fluxes and the p fluxes is observed, whereas the p ¯ and e fluxes show a linear correlation. With a model-independent analysis, we found a universal relation between the shape of the rigidity spectrum and the magnitude of flux temporal variation over an 11-year Solar cycle for both positively and negatively charged particles. The simultaneous results on p ¯ and p , e , and e + provide unique information for understanding particle transport in the Solar System as a function of mass, charge, and spectral shape.  more » « less

  1. The ratio of branching fractions R ( D * ) = B ( B ¯ D * τ ν ¯ τ ) / B ( B ¯ D * ν ¯ ) , where is an electron or muon, is measured using a Belle II data sample with an integrated luminosity of 189 fb 1 at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e + e collider. Data is collected at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance, and one B meson in the ϒ ( 4 S ) B B ¯ decay is fully reconstructed in hadronic decay modes. The accompanying signal B meson is reconstructed as B ¯ D * τ ν ¯ τ using leptonic τ decays. The normalization decay, B ¯ D * ν ¯ , produces the same observable final-state particles. The ratio of branching fractions is extracted in a simultaneous fit to two signal-discriminating variables in both channels and yields R ( D * ) = 0.262 0.039 + 0.041 ( stat ) 0.032 + 0.035 ( syst ) .   2. A recent report of e + e D D ¯ events by the BESIII collaboration suggests the presence of a structure R at 3900 MeV. We argue that this structure, called G ( 3900 ) in the past, is not in fact due to a new c c ¯ resonance but rather naturally emerges due to a combination of interference between nearby resonances and the opening of the D * D ¯ channel. We further find that the appearance of this structure does not require suppression because of a radial node in the ψ ( 4040 ) wave function, although a node improves fit quality. The measured e + e coupling of ψ ( 4040 ) is found to be substantially smaller than previously estimated. In addition, we report new corrections to the measured cross section σ ( e + e D D ¯ ) at energies near ψ ( 3770 ) . Published by the American Physical Society2024

We report the results of the first search for B decays to the Ξ ¯ c 0 Λ ¯ c final state using 711 fb 1 of data collected at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating B decay and Ξ c 0 Ξ ¯ c 0 oscillations which follow the standard model decay B Ξ c 0 Λ ¯ c . We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and standard model branching fractions B ( B Ξ ¯ c 0 Λ ¯ c ) / B ( B Ξ c 0 Λ ¯ c ) to be < 2.7 % and on the effective angular frequency of mixing ω in Ξ c 0 Ξ ¯ c 0 oscillations to be < 0.76 ps 1 (equivalent to τ mix > 1.3 ps ). We report the first search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decays B X s ν ν ¯ , where X s is a hadronic system with strangeness equal to 1, in data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e + e collider. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 365 fb 1 collected at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance and 43 fb 1 collected at a center-of-mass energy 60 MeV below resonance for estimation of e + e q q ¯ continuum background. One of the B mesons from the ϒ ( 4 S ) B B ¯ decay is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. The B X s ν ν ¯ decay is reconstructed with a sum-of-exclusives approach that uses 30 X s decay modes. This approach provides high sensitivity to the inclusive decay, despite the presence of two undetected neutrinos. The search is performed in three regions of the X s mass, M X s true , chosen to separate contributions from K , K * ( 892 ) , and heavier strange final states. We do not observe a significant signal and set upper limits at 90% confidence level on the partial branching fractions for the regions 0.0 < M X s true < 0.6 GeV / c 2 , 0.6 < M X s true < 1.0 GeV / c 2 , and 1.0 GeV / c 2 < M X s true of 2.2 × 10 5 , 9.3 × 10 5 , and 30.9 × 10 5 , respectively. Combining the three mass regions, we obtain the upper limit on the branching fraction, B ( B X s ν ν ¯ ) < 3.3 × 10 4

  5. Understanding electron neutrino interactions is crucial for measurements of neutrino oscillations and searches for new physics in neutrino experiments. We present the first measurement of the flux-averaged ν e + ν ¯ e charged-current single charged-pion production cross section on argon using the MicroBooNE detector and data from the NuMI neutrino beam. The total cross section is measured to be [ 0.93 ± 0.13 ( stat ) ± 0.27 ( syst ) ] × 10 39 cm 2 / nucleon at a mean ν e + ν ¯ e energy of 730 MeV. Differential cross sections are also reported in electron energy, electron and pion angles, and electron-pion opening angle.
