Title: Measurement of the W → μν cross-sections as a function of the muon transverse momentum in pp collisions at 5.02 TeV
Abstract Thepp→W±(→μ±νμ)Xcross-sections are measured at a proton-proton centre-of-mass energy$$ \sqrt{s}=5.02 $$ s = 5.02 TeV using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 100 pb−1recorded by the LHCb experiment. Considering muons in the pseudorapidity range 2.2< η <4.4, the cross-sections are measured differentially in twelve intervals of muon transverse momentum between 28< pT<52 GeV. Integrated overpT, the measured cross-sections are$$ {\displaystyle \begin{array}{c}{\sigma}_{W^{+}\to {\mu}^{+}{\nu}_{\mu }}=300.9\pm 2.4\pm 3.8\pm 6.0\ \textrm{pb},\\ {}{\sigma}_{W^{-}\to {\mu}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_{\mu }}=236.9\pm 2.1\pm 2.7\pm 4.7\ \textrm{pb},\end{array}} $$ σ W + μ + ν μ = 300.9 ± 2.4 ± 3.8 ± 6.0 pb , σ W μ ν ¯ μ = 236.9 ± 2.1 ± 2.7 ± 4.7 pb , where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic, and the third are associated with the luminosity calibration. These integrated results are consistent with theoretical predictions. This analysis introduces a new method to determine theW-boson mass using the measured differential cross-sections corrected for detector effects. The measurement is performed on this statistically limited dataset as a proof of principle and yields$$ {m}_W=80369\pm 130\pm 33\ \textrm{MeV}, $$ m W = 80369 ± 130 ± 33 MeV , where the first uncertainty is experimental and the second is theoretical.  more » « less

  3. Abstract Motivated by problems in control theory concerning decay rates for the damped wave equation$$\begin{aligned} w_{tt}(x,t) + \gamma (x) w_t(x,t) + (-\Delta + 1)^{s/2} w(x,t) = 0, \end{aligned}$$ w tt ( x , t ) + γ ( x ) w t ( x , t ) + ( - Δ + 1 ) s / 2 w ( x , t ) = 0 , we consider an analogue of the classical Paneah-Logvinenko-Sereda theorem for the Fourier Bessel transform. In particular, if$$E \subset \mathbb {R}^+$$ E R + is$$\mu _\alpha $$ μ α -relatively dense (where$$d\mu _\alpha (x) \approx x^{2\alpha +1}\, dx$$ d μ α ( x ) x 2 α + 1 d x ) for$$\alpha > -1/2$$ α > - 1 / 2 , and$$\operatorname {supp} \mathcal {F}_\alpha (f) \subset [R,R+1]$$ supp F α ( f ) [ R , R + 1 ] , then we show$$\begin{aligned} \Vert f\Vert _{L^2_\alpha (\mathbb {R}^+)} \lesssim \Vert f\Vert _{L^2_\alpha (E)}, \end{aligned}$$ f L α 2 ( R + ) f L α 2 ( E ) , for all$$f\in L^2_\alpha (\mathbb {R}^+)$$ f L α 2 ( R + ) , where the constants in$$\lesssim $$ do not depend on$$R > 0$$ R > 0 . Previous results on PLS theorems for the Fourier-Bessel transform by Ghobber and Jaming (2012) provide bounds that depend onR. In contrast, our techniques yield bounds that are independent ofR, offering a new perspective on such results. This result is applied to derive decay rates of radial solutions of the damped wave equation.

  5. Abstract Let$$\Gamma $$ Γ be a compact patch of a well-curved$$C^{n+1}$$ C n + 1 curve in$$\mathbb {R}^n$$ R n with induced Lebesgue measure$$\textrm{d} \lambda $$ d λ , and let$$g \mapsto \widehat{g \,\textrm{d}\lambda }$$ g g d λ ^ be the Fourier extension operator for$$\Gamma $$ Γ . Then we have, for arbitrary non-negative weightsw,$$\begin{aligned} \int _{B_R} |\widehat{g \,\textrm{d}\lambda }|^2w \le C_{n,a} R^{a} \sup _S \left( \int _S w\right) \int _\Gamma |g|^2 \, \textrm{d} \lambda \end{aligned}$$ B R | g d λ ^ | 2 w C n , a R a sup S S w Γ | g | 2 d λ for any$$a> \frac{n-3}{2} + \frac{2}{n} - \frac{2}{n^2(n+1)}$$ a > n - 3 2 + 2 n - 2 n 2 ( n + 1 ) , where the$$\sup $$ sup is over all 1-neighbourhoodsSof hyperplanes whose normals are parallel to the tangent at some point of$$\Gamma $$ Γ . This represents partial progress on the Mizohata–Takeuchi conjecture for curves in dimensions$$n \ge 3$$ n 3 , improving upon the exponent$$a=n-1$$ a = n - 1 which can be obtained as a consequence of the Agmon–Hörmander trace inequality. Our main tool in establishing this inequality will be a weighted formulation of refined decoupling for well-curved curves. We also discuss the sharpness of the exponents we obtain in this and in auxiliary results, and further explore this in the context of axiomatic decoupling for curves.
