A<sc>bstract</sc> We report a search for the charged-lepton flavor violation in Υ(2S) →ℓ∓τ±(ℓ=e, μ) decays using a 25 fb−1Υ(2S) sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKBe+e−asymmetric-energy collider. We find no evidence for a signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions ($$ \mathcal{B} $$ ) at 90% confidence level. We obtain the most stringent upper limits:$$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Υ(2S)→ μ∓τ±)<0.23×10−6and$$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Υ(2S)→ e∓τ±)<1.12×10−6.

Search for lepton-flavor-violating tau decays to ℓα at Belle
A<sc>bstract</sc> We report a search for the lepton-flavor-violating decaysτ±→ℓ±α(ℓ=e,μ), whereαis an undetected spin-0 particle, such as an axion-like particle using 736 × 106tau lepton pairs collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energye+e−collider. We find no evidence of signal and obtain the most stringent upper limits on the branching fractions at 95% confidence level:$$\mathcal{B}$$(τ±→ e±α) < (0.4–6.4)×10−4and$$\mathcal{B}$$(τ±→ μ±α) < (0.2–3.5)×10−4at 95% confidence level for anαmass in the range 0.0≤ mα≤1.6 GeV/c2.

A<sc>bstract</sc> We present a measurement of the ratio$$ {R}_{\mu }=\mathcal{B}\left({\tau}^{-}\to {\mu}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_{\mu }{\nu}_{\tau}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\tau}^{-}\to {e}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_e{\nu}_{\tau}\right) $$ of branching fractions$$ \mathcal{B} $$ of theτlepton decaying to muons or electrons using data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKBe+e−collider. The sample has an integrated luminosity of 362 ± 2 fb−1at a centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. Using an optimised event selection, a binned maximum likelihood fit is performed using the momentum spectra of the electron and muon candidates. The result,Rμ= 0.9675 ± 0.0007 ± 0.0036, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is the most precise to date. It provides a stringent test of the light-lepton universality, translating to a ratio of the couplings of the muon and electron to theWboson inτdecays of 0.9974 ± 0.0019, in agreement with the standard model expectation of unity.more » « less

A<sc>bstract</sc> The polarization ofτleptons is measured using leptonic and hadronicτlepton decays in Z →τ+τ−events in proton-proton collisions at$$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV recorded by CMS at the CERN LHC with an integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb−1. The measuredτ−lepton polarization at the Z boson mass pole is$$ {\mathcal{P}}_{\tau}\left(\textrm{Z}\right) $$ = −0.144 ± 0.006 (stat) ± 0.014 (syst) = −0.144 ± 0.015, in good agreement with the measurement of theτlepton asymmetry parameter ofAτ= 0.1439 ± 0.0043 =$$ -{\mathcal{P}}_{\tau}\left(\textrm{Z}\right) $$ at LEP. Theτlepton polarization depends on the ratio of the vector to axial-vector couplings of theτleptons in the neutral current expression, and thus on the effective weak mixing angle sin2$$ {\theta}_{\textrm{W}}^{\textrm{eff}} $$ , independently of the Z boson production mechanism. The obtained value sin2$$ {\theta}_{\textrm{W}}^{\textrm{eff}} $$ = 0.2319 ± 0.0008(stat) ± 0.0018(syst) = 0.2319 ± 0.0019 is in good agreement with measurements ate+e−colliders.more » « less

A<sc>bstract</sc> Results are presented from a search for the Higgs boson decay H→Zγ, where Z→ ℓ+ℓ−withℓ= e or μ. The search is performed using a sample of proton-proton (pp) collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1. Events are assigned to mutually exclusive categories, which exploit differences in both event topology and kinematics of distinct Higgs production mechanisms to enhance signal sensitivity. The signal strengthμ, defined as the product of the cross section and the branching fraction$$ \left[\sigma \left(\textrm{pp}\to \textrm{H}\right)\mathcal{B}\left(\textrm{H}\to \textrm{Z}\upgamma \right)\right] $$ relative to the standard model prediction, is extracted from a simultaneous fit to theℓ+ℓ−γ invariant mass distributions in all categories and is measured to beμ= 2.4 ± 0.9 for a Higgs boson mass of 125.38 GeV. The statistical significance of the observed excess of events is 2.7 standard deviations. This measurement corresponds to$$ \left[\sigma \left(\textrm{pp}\to \textrm{H}\right)\mathcal{B}\left(\textrm{H}\to \textrm{Z}\upgamma \right)\right]=0.21\pm 0.08 $$ pb. The observed (expected) upper limit at 95% confidence level onμis 4.1 (1.8), where the expected limit is calculated under the background-only hypothesis. The ratio of branching fractions$$ \mathcal{B}\left(\textrm{H}\to \textrm{Z}\upgamma \right)/\mathcal{B}\left(\textrm{H}\to \upgamma \upgamma \right) $$ is measured to be$$ {1.5}_{-0.6}^{+0.7} $$ , which agrees with the standard model prediction of 0.69 ± 0.04 at the 1.5 standard deviation level.more » « less
