Title: Search for B0→K*0τ+τ− Decays at the Belle II Experiment
We present a search for the rare flavor-changing neutral-current decay B0→K*0τ+τ− with data collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider. The analysis uses a 365  fb−1 data sample recorded at the center-of-mass energy of the ϒ (4S) resonance. One of the B mesons produced in the ϒ (4S) →B0 B¯ 0 process is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode, while its companion B meson is required to decay into a K*0 and two τ leptons of opposite charge. The τ leptons are reconstructed in final states with a single electron, muon, charged pion or charged ρ meson, and additional neutrinos. We set an upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B0→K*0τ+τ−)<1.8×10−3 at the 90% confidence level, which is the most stringent constraint reported to date.  more » « less

  1. The first searches for B0→K+π−τ+τ− and Bs0 →K+K−τ+τ− decays at the LHCb experiment are conducted with pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The tau leptons are reconstructed using the τ+→μ+ ν¯ τ νμ decay and the results are presented in bins of K+π− or K+K− mass. No signal is observed and upper limits are set on the branching fractions. The searches result in the first upper limits for B0→K+π−τ+τ− decays outside the K*(892)0 region in K+π− mass and the first limits for Bs0 →K+K−τ+τ− decays. The searches are recast into limits on the decays B0→K*(892)0τ+τ− and Bs0 →ϕ(1020)τ+τ− , yielding 2.8×10−4 ( 2.5×10−4 ) and 4.7×10−4 ( 4.1×10−4 ) at the 95% (90%) confidence level, respectively. For the decay B0→K*(892)0τ+τ− , this result improves on the current best upper limit by an order of magnitude.

  2. We present the first search for the lepton-flavor-violating decay modes B0→ KS0 τ±ℓ∓ ( ℓ=μ,e ) using the 711 and 365  fb−1 data samples recorded by the Belle and Belle II detectors, respectively. We use a hadronic B -tagging technique to fully reconstruct a B meson and search for signal decays in the system recoiling against the tagged meson, considering τ decays to either light leptons, one charged hadron, or one charged hadron and a neutral pion. We find no evidence for B0→ KS0 τ±ℓ∓ decays and set 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range of [0.8,3.6]×10−5 .

  3. The first evidence for the decay B−→D**0τ− ν¯ τ is obtained using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 , at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. Here, the D**0 meson represents any of the three excited charm mesons D1(2420)0 , D2*(2460)0 , and D1′(2400)0 . The B−→ D**0τ− ν¯τ signal is measured with a significance of 3.5σ , including systematic uncertainties. The combined branching fraction B(B−→ D1,2**0 τ− ν¯ τ )×B( D1,2**0 →D*+π−) , where D1,2**0 denotes both D1(2420)0 and D2*(2460)0 contributions, is measured to be [0.051±0.013(stat)±0.006(syst)±0.009(ext)]% , where the last uncertainty reflects that of the branching fraction of the normalization channel B−→ D1,2**0 Ds−(*) . The ratio between the tauonic and muonic semileptonic B decays, with the latter taken from world average values, is also determined and found to be R( D1,2**0 )=0.13±0.03(stat)±0.01(syst)±0.02(ext) .

  4. We report the first evidence for the hb (2P)→ϒ(1S)η transition with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations. The decay branching fraction is measured to be B[ hb (2P)→ϒ(1S)η]=( 7.1−3.2+3.7 ±0.8)×10−3 , which is noticeably smaller than expected. We also set upper limits on π0 transitions of B[ hb (2P)→ϒ(1S)π0]<1.8×10−3 , and B[ hb (1P)→ϒ(1S)π0]<1.8×10−3 , at the 90% confidence level. These results are obtained with a 131.4  fb−1 data sample collected near the ϒ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. 5. We measure the branching fraction of the decay B0→J/ψω using data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. The data contain (387±6)×106  B B¯ meson pairs produced in energy-asymmetric e+e− collisions at the ϒ(4S) resonance. The measured branching fraction B(B0→J/ψω)=(2.16±0.30±0.14)×10−5 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is more precise than previous results and constitutes the first observation of the decay with a significance of 6.5 standard deviations.
