Title: Search for γH production and constraints on the Yukawa couplings of light quarks to the Higgs boson
A search for γH production is performed with data from the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138fb1 at a proton-proton center-of-mass collision energy of 13TeV . The analysis focuses on the topology of a boosted Higgs boson recoiling against a high-energy photon. The final states of H bb¯ and H4 are analyzed. This study examines effective HZγ and Hγγ anomalous couplings within the context of an effective field theory. In this approach, the production cross section is constrained to be σγH <16.4fb at 95% confidence level (CL). Simultaneous constraints on four anomalous couplings involving HZγ and Hγγ are provided. Additionally, the production rate for H4 is examined to assess potential enhancements in the Yukawa couplings between light quarks and the Higgs boson. Assuming the standard model values for the Yukawa couplings of the bottom and top quarks, the following simultaneous constraints are obtained: κu=(0.0±1.5)×103 , κd=( 0.06.8+6.7 )×102 , κs= 032+30 , and κc= 0.02.8+2.3 . This rules out the hypothesis that up- or down-type quarks in the first or second generation have the same Yukawa couplings as those in the third generation, with a CL greater than 95%.  more » « less

  1. A search for the nonresonant production of Higgs boson pairs in the HHbb¯τ+τ channel is performed using 140fb1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The analysis strategy is optimized to probe anomalous values of the Higgs boson self-coupling modifier κλ and of the quartic HHVV ( V=W,Z ) coupling modifier κ2V . No significant excess above the expected background from Standard Model processes is observed. An observed (expected) upper limit μHH <5.9(3.3) is set at 95% confidence-level on the Higgs boson pair production cross section normalized to its Standard Model prediction. The coupling modifiers are constrained to an observed (expected) 95% confidence interval of 3.1<κλ<9.0 ( 2.5<κλ<9.3 ) and 0.5< κ2V <2.7 ( 0.2< κ2V <2.4 ), assuming all other Higgs boson couplings are fixed to the Standard Model prediction. The results are also interpreted in the context of effective field theories via constraints on anomalous Higgs boson couplings and Higgs boson pair production cross sections assuming different kinematic benchmark scenarios. © 2024 CERN, for the ATLAS Collaboration2024CERN

  2. This Letter presents results from a combination of searches for Higgs boson pair production using 126140fb1 of proton-proton collision data at s=13TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector. At 95% confidence level (CL), the upper limit on the production rate is 2.9 times the standard model (SM) prediction, with an expected limit of 2.4 assuming no Higgs boson pair production. Constraints on the Higgs boson self-coupling modifier κλ = λHHH / λHHHSM , and the quartic HHVV coupling modifier κ2V = gHHVV / gHHVVSM , are derived individually, fixing the other parameter to its SM value. The observed 95% CL intervals are 1.2< κλ <7.2 and 0.6< κ2V <1.5 , respectively, while the expected intervals are 1.6< κλ <7.2 and 0.4< κ2V <1.6 in the SM case. Constraints obtained for several interaction parameters within Higgs effective field theory are the strongest to date, offering insights into potential deviations from SM predictions. © 2024 CERN, for the ATLAS Collaboration2024CERN

  3. We report a measurement of the branching fraction for the leptonic decay B+μ+νμ . This work presents the first B+μ+νμ result using Belle II data, an updated Belle measurement that supersedes the previous result, and their combination, which yields the most precise search to date. The analysis is based on 1076fb1 of e+e collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV with the Belle and Belle II detectors at the KEKB and SuperKEKB colliders, respectively. We measure B(B+μ+νμ)=(4.4±1.9±1.0)×107 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The observed significance relative to the background-only hypothesis is 2.4 standard deviations. We set a 90% confidence level upper limit of B(B+μ+νμ)<6.7×107 using a frequentist approach and a 90% credibility level upper limit of B(B+μ+νμ)<7.2×107 using a Bayesian approach. These are the most stringent limits to date. The result is interpreted as an exclusion region in the parameter space of type II and type III two-Higgs-doublet models. We search for stable sterile neutrinos with masses mN[0,1.5]GeV . No signal is observed, and the resulting exclusion on the squared mixing parameter | UμN |2 provides improvement over previous limits. We report a measurement of the partial branching fraction of semileptonic BXuν decays with pμB>2.2GeV , obtaining ΔB(BXuν)=(2.72±0.05±0.29)×104 . We present a model-dependent study of weak annihilation decays using the muon momentum spectrum. We observe a signal of 2.4 standard deviations above the background-only hypothesis in regions where the distribution resembles that of BXuν decays.

  4. The Ξc+ ππ+ spectrum is investigated using proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4fb1 , collected by the LHCb experiment during 2016–2018. Four states are observed with high significance, and their masses and widths are measured to be m[ Ξc (2815)+]=2816.65±0.03±0.03±0.23MeV , Γ[ Ξc (2815)+]=2.07±0.08±0.12MeV , m[ Ξc (2923)+]=2922.8±0.3±0.5±0.2MeV , Γ[ Ξc (2923)+]=5.3±0.9±1.4MeV , m[ Ξc (2970)+]=2968.6±0.5±0.5±0.2MeV , Γ[ Ξc (2970)+]=31.7±1.7±1.9MeV , m[ Ξc (3080)+]=3076.8±0.7±1.3±0.2MeV , Γ[ Ξc (3080)+]=6.8±2.3±0.9MeV , where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the limited precision on the Ξc+ mass, respectively. The Ξc(2923)+ baryon is observed for the first time, and is consistent with being the isospin partner of the previously observed Ξc(2923)0 state. Most of the measured parameters are more precise than existing world averages.

  5. We report the first search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decays BXsνν¯ , where Xs is a hadronic system with strangeness equal to 1, in data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e+e collider. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 365fb1 collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance and 43fb1 collected at a center-of-mass energy 60 MeV below resonance for estimation of e+eqq¯ continuum background. One of the B mesons from the ϒ(4S)B B¯ decay is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. The BXsνν¯ decay is reconstructed with a sum-of-exclusives approach that uses 30 Xs decay modes. This approach provides high sensitivity to the inclusive decay, despite the presence of two undetected neutrinos. The search is performed in three regions of the Xs mass, MXstrue , chosen to separate contributions from K , K*(892) , and heavier strange final states. We do not observe a significant signal and set upper limits at 90% confidence level on the partial branching fractions for the regions 0.0< M Xs true <0.6GeV/c2 , 0.6< MXstrue <1.0GeV/c2 , and 1.0GeV/c2< MXstrue of 2.2×105 , 9.3×105 , and 30.9×105 , respectively. Combining the three mass regions, we obtain the upper limit on the branching fraction, B(B Xs ν ν¯ )<3.3×104
