We present a determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element from the decay using a data sample recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. The semileptonic decay of one meson is reconstructed in the modes and , where denotes either an electron or a muon. Charge conjugation is implied. The second meson in the event is not reconstructed explicitly. Using an inclusive reconstruction of the unobserved neutrino momentum, we determine the recoil variable , where and are the four-velocities of the and mesons. We measure the total decay branching fractions to be and . We probe lepton flavor universality by measuring . Fitting the partial decay branching fraction as a function of and using the average of lattice QCD calculations of the form factor, we obtain .

BICEP/ Keck XXI: Constraints on early-Universe parity violation from multipole-dependent birefringence
We present the first constraints on multipole-dependent cosmic birefringence using CMB polarization data from the BK18 dataset, which combines observations from BICEP2, Array, and BICEP3 at frequencies of 95, 150, and 220 GHz. Photon coupling to an axionlike field leads to the rotation of CMB polarization, inducing nonzero cross-correlations. We show that a multipole-dependent rotation imprints a distinct signature in the polarization spectra that can be constrained. Specifically, we consider an early dark energy (EDE) scenario in which a pseudoscalar field couples to photons through a Chern-Simons interaction, generating a polarization rotation with multipole dependence. We introduce a phenomenological as a step function, obtaining constraints on the step function size consistent with zero, with uncertainties less than (68% CL). In addition, using multi-frequency , , and cross spectra, along with robust BICEP/ foreground treatment and likelihood framework, we derive constraints on the axion-photon coupling amplitude for several choices of EDE parameters. For the baseline best-fit value from the 2018 analysis, we obtain (68% CL), consistent with previous limits.

We present an analysis of the processes , , and with ( , 2) reconstructed from final states in of Belle II data collected at four energy points near the peak of the resonance. Here, is a hypothetical bottomonium-sector partner of the . In the process , we observe a signal with a significance that exceeds when all energy points are combined. A signal with a significance of is observed at a center-of-mass energy of 10.653 GeV, close to the threshold. At this energy, we measure at the 90% confidence level, indicating a strong violation of heavy-quark spin symmetry. No significant signal is observed for or . Upper limits on the Born cross sections for the processes and with are determined.more » « less

The ratio of branching fractions , where is an electron or muon, is measured using a Belle II data sample with an integrated luminosity of at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider. Data is collected at the resonance, and one meson in the decay is fully reconstructed in hadronic decay modes. The accompanying signal meson is reconstructed as using leptonic decays. The normalization decay, , produces the same observable final-state particles. The ratio of branching fractions is extracted in a simultaneous fit to two signal-discriminating variables in both channels and yields . This result is consistent with the current world average and with Standard Model predictions. Published by the American Physical Society2024more » « less

A search for production is performed with data from the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of at a proton-proton center-of-mass collision energy of . The analysis focuses on the topology of a boosted Higgs boson recoiling against a high-energy photon. The final states of and are analyzed. This study examines effective and anomalous couplings within the context of an effective field theory. In this approach, the production cross section is constrained to be at 95% confidence level (CL). Simultaneous constraints on four anomalous couplings involving and are provided. Additionally, the production rate for is examined to assess potential enhancements in the Yukawa couplings between light quarks and the Higgs boson. Assuming the standard model values for the Yukawa couplings of the bottom and top quarks, the following simultaneous constraints are obtained: , , , and . This rules out the hypothesis that up- or down-type quarks in the first or second generation have the same Yukawa couplings as those in the third generation, with a CL greater than 95%.more » « less

We report a measurement of the branching fraction for the leptonic decay . This work presents the first result using Belle II data, an updated Belle measurement that supersedes the previous result, and their combination, which yields the most precise search to date. The analysis is based on of collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV with the Belle and Belle II detectors at the KEKB and SuperKEKB colliders, respectively. We measure , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The observed significance relative to the background-only hypothesis is 2.4 standard deviations. We set a 90% confidence level upper limit of using a frequentist approach and a 90% credibility level upper limit of using a Bayesian approach. These are the most stringent limits to date. The result is interpreted as an exclusion region in the parameter space of type II and type III two-Higgs-doublet models. We search for stable sterile neutrinos with masses . No signal is observed, and the resulting exclusion on the squared mixing parameter provides improvement over previous limits. We report a measurement of the partial branching fraction of semileptonic decays with , obtaining . We present a model-dependent study of weak annihilation decays using the muon momentum spectrum. We observe a signal of 2.4 standard deviations above the background-only hypothesis in regions where the distribution resembles that of decays.more » « less
