Title: Amplitude analysis of the Ξc+→pK−π+ decay and Ξc+ baryon polarization measurement in semileptonic beauty-hadron decays
An amplitude analysis of the Ξc+→pK−π+ decay together with a measurement of the Ξc+ polarization vector in semileptonic beauty-hadron decays is presented. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . An amplitude model is developed and the resonance fractions as well as two- and three-body decay parameters are reported. A sizeable Ξc+ polarization is found. A large sensitivity of the Ξc+→pK−π+ decay to the polarization is seen, making the amplitude model suitable for Ξc+ polarization measurements in other systems.  more » « less

  1. Using data samples of 988.4  fb−1 and 427.9  fb−1 collected with the Belle and Belle II detectors, we present a study of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays Ξc0→Λη , Λη′ , and Λπ0 . We observe the decay  Ξc0→Λη and find evidence for the decay Ξc0→Λη′ , with corresponding branching ratios determined to be B(Ξc0→Λη) / B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+) =(4.16±0.91±0.23)% and B(Ξc0→Λη′) / B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+) =(2.48±0.82±0.12)% , respectively. We find no significant signal in the Ξc0→Λπ0 decay mode and set an upper limit at the 90% credibility level of B(Ξc0→Λπ0) / B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+) <3.5% . Multiplying these ratios by the world-average branching fraction of the normalization channel, B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+)=(1.43±0.27)% , we obtain the absolute branching fractions of B(Ξc0→Λη)=(5.95±1.30±0.32±1.13)×10−4 , B(Ξc0→Λη′)=(3.55±1.17±0.17±0.68)×10−4 , and an upper limit at the 90% credibility level on the absolute branching fraction of B(Ξc0→Λπ0)<5.2×10−4 . The quoted first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third uncertainties arise from the branching fraction of the normalization mode. These results are consistent with most theoretical predictions and further the understanding of the underlying decay mechanisms.

  2. We report the results of the first search for B− decays to the Ξ¯ c0 Λ¯ c− final state using 711  fb−1 of data collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating B− decay and Ξc0 − Ξ¯ c0 oscillations which follow the standard model decay B−→ Ξc0 Λ¯ c− . We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and standard model branching fractions B(B−→ Ξ¯ c0 Λ¯ c− ) / B(B−→ Ξc0 Λ¯ c− ) to be <2.7% and on the effective angular frequency of mixing ω in Ξc0 − Ξ¯ c0 oscillations to be <0.76  ps−1 (equivalent to τmix >1.3  ps ). 3. A study of Λb0 and Ξb0 decays to Λh+h′− ( h(′)=π,K ) is performed using pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment during LHC Runs 1–2, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . The branching fractions for these decays are measured using the Λb0 → Λc+ (→Λπ+)π− decay as a control channel. The decays Λb0→Λπ+π− and Ξb0→ΛK−π+ are observed for the first time. For decay modes with sufficient signal yields, CP asymmetries are measured in the full and localized regions of the final-state phase space. Evidence is found for CP violation in the Λb0→ΛK+K− decay, interpreted as originating primarily from an asymmetric Λb0→N*+K− decay amplitude. The measured CP asymmetries for other decays are compatible with zero. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN

  4. A comprehensive study of the angular distributions in the bottom-baryon decays Λb0→Λc+h−(h=π,K) , followed by Λc+→Λh+ with Λ→pπ− or Λc+→pKS0 decays, is performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The decay parameters and the associated charge-parity ( CP ) asymmetries are measured, with no significant CP violation observed. For the first time, the Λb0→Λc+h− decay parameters are measured. The most precise measurements of the decay parameters α , β , and γ are obtained for Λc+ decays and an independent measurement of the decay parameters for the strange-baryon Λ decay is provided. The results deepen our understanding of weak decay dynamics in baryon decays. © 2024 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2024CERN

  5. The first observation of the decay Ξb−→ ψ(2S) Ξ− and measurement of the branching ratio of Ξb−→ ψ(2S) Ξ− to Ξb−→J/ψΞ− are presented. The J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are reconstructed using their dimuon decay modes. The results are based on proton-proton colliding beam data from the LHC collected by the CMS experiment at s=13  TeV in 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140  fb−1 . The branching fraction ratio is measured to be B( Ξb− → ψ(2S) Ξ− )/B( Ξb− →J/ψΞ− )=0.8 4−0.19+0.21 (stat)±0.10(syst)±0.02(B) , where the last uncertainty comes from the uncertainties in the branching fractions of the charmonium states. New measurements of the Ξb(5945)0 baryon mass and natural width are also presented, using the Ξb−π+ final state, where the Ξb− baryon is reconstructed through the decays J/ψΞ− , ψ(2S) Ξ− , J/ψΛK− , and J/ψΣ0K− . Finally, the fraction of Ξb− baryons produced from Ξb(5945)0 decays is determined. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2024CERN
