Title: A model-independent measurement of the CKM angle γ in the decays B± → [K+K−π+π−]Dh± and B± → [π+π−π+π−]Dh± (h = K, π)
Abstract A model-independent determination of the CKM angleγis presented, using theB±→ [K+K−π+π−]Dh±andB±→ [π+π−π+π−]Dh±decays, withh=K, π. This measurement is the first phase-space binned study of these decay modes, and uses a sample of proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. The phase-space bins are optimised for sensitivity toγ, and in each bin external inputs from the BESIII experiment are used to constrain the charm strong-phase parameters. The result of this binned analysis is$$ \gamma ={\left(53.{9}_{-8.9}^{+9.5}\right)}^{{}^{\circ}} $$ γ= 53. 9−8.9+9.5 ° , where the uncertainty includes both statistical and systematic contributions. Furthermore, when combining with existing phase-space integrated measurements of the same decay modes, a value of$$ \gamma ={\left(52.{6}_{-6.4}^{+8.5}\right)}^{{}^{\circ}} $$ γ= 52. 6−6.4+8.5 ° is obtained, which is one of the most precise determinations ofγto date.  more » « less

  1. Abstract A study of charm mixing andCPviolation inD0→K±π∓π±π∓decays is performed using data collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions from 2015 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb−1. The ratio of promptly producedD0→K+π−π+π−toD0→K−π+π−π+decay rates is measured as a function ofD0decay time, both inclusive over phase space and in bins of phase space. Taking external inputs for the$$ {D}^0-{\overline{D}}^0 $$ D0−D¯0 mixing parametersxandyallows constraints to be obtained on the hadronic parameters of the charm decay. When combined with previous measurements from charm-threshold experiments and at LHCb, improved knowledge is obtained for these parameters, which is valuable for studies of the angleγof the Unitarity Triangle. An alternative analysis is also performed, in which external inputs are taken for the hadronic parameters, and the mixing parameters are determined, including ∆xand ∆y, which are nonzero in the presence ofCPviolation. It is found that$$ x=\left(0.{85}_{-0.24}^{+0.15}\right)\% $$ x= 0. 85−0.24+0.15 % ,$$ y=\left(0.{21}_{-0.27}^{+0.29}\right)\% $$ y= 0. 21−0.27+0.29 % , ∆x= (−0.02 ± 0.04) % and$$ \Delta y=\left(0.0{2}_{-0.03}^{+0.04}\right)\% $$ Δy= 0.0 2−0.03+0.04 % . These results are consistent with previous measurements and the hypothesis ofCPconservation.

  2. Abstract A search for the decay$$ {B}_c^{+} $$ Bc+ → χc1(3872)π+is reported using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018 at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. No significant signal is observed. Using the decay$$ {B}_c^{+} $$ Bc+ →ψ(2S)π+as a normalisation channel, an upper limit for the ratio of branching fractions$$ {\mathcal{R}}_{\psi (2S)}^{\chi_{c1}(3872)}=\frac{{\mathcal{B}}_{B_c^{+}\to {\chi}_{c1}(3872){\pi}^{+}}}{{\mathcal{B}}_{B_c^{+}\to \psi (2S){\pi}^{+}}}\times \frac{{\mathcal{B}}_{\chi_{c1}(3872)\to J/\psi {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}}}{{\mathcal{B}}_{\psi (2S)\to J/\psi {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}}}<0.05(0.06), $$ R ψ 2S χc1 3872 = B Bc+→ χc1 3872π+ B Bc+→ψ 2S π+ × B χc1 3872→J/ψπ+π− B ψ 2S →J/ψπ+π− <0.050.06, is set at the 90 (95)% confidence level.

  3. Abstract A measurement of theCP-violating parameters in$$ {B}_s^0\boldsymbol{\to}{D}_s^{\mp }{K}^{\pm} $$ Bs0→Ds∓K± decays is reported, based on the analysis of proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb−1at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The measured parameters are obtained with a decay-time dependent analysis yieldingCf= 0.791 ± 0.061 ± 0.022,$$ {A}_f^{\Delta \Gamma} $$ Af∆Γ = −0.051 ± 0.134 ± 0.058,$$ {A}_{\overline{f}}^{\Delta \Gamma} $$ Af¯∆Γ = −0.303 ± 0.125 ± 0.055,Sf= −0.571 ± 0.084 ± 0.023 and$$ {S}_{\overline{f}} $$ Sf¯ = −0.503 ± 0.084 ± 0.025, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This corresponds to CP violation in the interference between mixing and decay of about 8.6σ. Together with the value of the$$ {B}_s^0 $$ Bs0 mixing phase −2βs, these parameters are used to obtain a measurement of the CKM angleγequal to (74 ± 12)° modulo 180°, where the uncertainty contains both statistical and systematic contributions. This result is combined with the previous LHCb measurement in this channel using 3 fb−1resulting in a determination of$$ \gamma ={\left({81}_{-11}^{+12}\right)}^{\circ } $$ γ= 81−11+12 ∘ .

  5. Abstract We point out that using current knowledge of$$ \mathcal{B}\left({K}_L^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right) $$ B KL0→μ+μ− and$$ \mathcal{B}\left({K}_L^0\to \gamma \gamma \right) $$ B KL0→γγ , one can extract short-distance information from the combined measurement of the time-integrated CP asymmetry,ACP(K0→ μ+μ−), and of$$ \mathcal{B}\left({K}_S^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right) $$ B KS0→μ+μ− . We discuss the interplay between this set of observables, and demonstrate that determining sign[ACP(K0→μ+μ−)] would eliminate the discrete ambiguity in the Standard Model prediction for$$ \mathcal{B}\left({K}_L^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right) $$ B KL0→μ+μ− . We then move on to feasibility studies within an LHCb-like setup, using both time-integrated and time-dependent information, employingK0and$$ {\overline{K}}^0 $$ K¯0 tagging methods. We find that, within an optimistic scenario, the short-distance amplitude, proportional to the CKM parameter combination$$ \mid {A}^2{\lambda}^5\overline{\eta}\mid $$ ∣A2λ5η¯∣ , could be constrained by LHCb at the level of about 35% of its Standard Model value, and the discrete ambiguity in$$ \mathcal{B}{\left({K}_L^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)}_{\textrm{SM}} $$ B KL0→μ+μ− SM could be resolved at more than 3σby the end of the high luminosity LHC.
