Title: First Observation of CP Violation and Measurement of Polarization in B+→ρ(770)0K*(892)+ Decays
An amplitude analysis of the B+→(π+π−)( KS0 π+) decay is performed in the mass regions 0.30< mπ+π− <1.10  GeV/c2 and 0.75< m KS0 π+ <1.20  GeV/c2 , using pp collision data recorded with the LHCb detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . The polarization fractions and CP asymmetries for B+→ρ(770)0K*(892)+ decays are measured. Violation of the CP symmetry in the decay B+→ρ(770)0K*(892)+ is observed for the first time, with a significance exceeding 9 standard deviations. The CP asymmetry is measured to be ACP = 0.507±0.062(stat)±0.024(syst) and the CP -averaged longitudinal polarization fraction of fL= 0.720±0.028(stat)±0.009(syst) . The measurements help to shed light on the polarization puzzle of B mesons decaying to two vector mesons.  more » « less

  1. The first four-dimensional amplitude analysis of the B+→ψ(2S)KS0π+ decay is performed with proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at s=13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The data cannot be fully explained by B+→ψ(2S)K*+ contributions alone. A significantly better description of the data is obtained by adding a T cc¯ + contribution decaying to ψ(2S)π+ . The properties of the T cc¯ + structure are consistent with the exotic state T cc¯1 (4430)+ reported in the isospin-related B¯0→ψ(2S)K−π+ decay. Effects of a possible T cc¯1 (4430)+→ D¯1* (2600)0D+ decay mode on the T cc¯1 (4430)+→ψ(2S)π+ mass distribution are investigated through a Flatté parametrization, providing constraints on the relative decay strength. A description of the T cc¯1 (4430)+ structure using the triangle singularity mechanism is studied and also found to be consistent with the data.

  2. The time-dependent CP asymmetry in B0→J/ψρ(770)0 decays is measured using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb−1 , collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV during the years 2015–2018. The CP -violation parameters for this process are determined to be 2 β c c¯ d eff =0.710±0.084±0.051  rad and |λ|=1.019±0.034±0.024 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This constitutes the first observation of time-dependent CP violation in B0→J/ψρ(770)0 decays. Assuming approximate SU(3) flavor symmetry, these results are combined with the previous consistent LHCb measurement to set the most stringent constraint on the penguin contribution, Δϕs , to the CP -violating phase ϕs in Bs0→J/ψϕ(1020) decays, yielding Δϕs=5.0±4.6  mrad .

  3. A time- and flavor-integrated amplitude analysis of B0 and Bs0 decays to the (K+π−)(K−π+) final state in the K*(892)0K¯*(892)0 region is presented, using pp collision data recorded with the LHCb detector in 2011–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . The branching fractions of the B0 and Bs0 decays are measured relative to the B0→D−π+ and Bs0→Ds−π+ modes, respectively. The corresponding longitudinal polarization fractions are found to be fLd=0.600±0.022±0.017 and fLs=0.159±0.010±0.007 , where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The theory-motivated ratio of the squared Bs0 to B0 longitudinally polarized decay amplitudes is found to be LK*0K¯*0 =4.92±0.55±0.48±0.02±0.10 , where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, due to uncertainty of external mass and lifetime measurements, and due to knowledge of the fragmentation fraction ratio, respectively. This confirms the previously reported tension between experimental determinations and theoretical predictions of longitudinal polarization in B→VV decays at the level of 4.4 standard deviations.

  4. We search for excited charmed baryons in the Λc+η system using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980  fb−1 . The data were collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e− asymmetric-energy collider. No significant signals are found in the Λc+η mass spectrum, including the known Λc(2880)+ and Λc(2940)+ . Clear Λc(2880)+ and Λc(2940)+ signals are observed in the pD0 mass spectrum. We set upper limits at 90% credibility level on ratios of branching fractions of Λc(2880)+ and Λc(2940)+ decaying to Λc+η relative to Σc(2455)π of <0.13 for the Λc(2880)+ and <1.11 for the Λc(2940)+ . We measure ratios of branching fractions of Λc(2880)+ and Λc(2940)+ decaying to pD0 relative to Σc(2455)π of 0.75±0.03(stat)±0.07(syst) for the Λc(2880)+ and 3.59±0.21(stat)±0.56(syst) for the Λc(2940)+ . 5. The Ξb0(−) → Ξc (3055)+(0)(→D+(0)Λ)π− decay chains are observed, and the spin-parity of Ξc(3055)+(0) baryons is determined for the first time. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of s=13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 , recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018. The spin-parity of the Ξc (3055)+(0) baryons is determined to be 3/2+ with a significance of more than 6.5σ ( 3.5σ ) compared to all other tested hypotheses. The up-down asymmetries of the Ξb0(−) → Ξc (3055)+(0)π− transitions are measured to be −0.92±0.10±0.05 ( −0.92±0.16±0.22 ), consistent with maximal parity violation, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These results support the hypothesis that the Ξc(3055)+(0) baryons correspond to the first D -wave λ -mode excitation of the Ξc flavor triplet. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN
