Title: Branching fraction measurement of the $$ \Lambda \to p{\mu}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_{\mu } $$ decay
Abstract A measurement of the branching fraction for the decay$$ \Lambda \to p{\mu}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_{\mu } $$ Λ→pμ− ν¯μ is presented usingppcollision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The analysis is based on data recorded between 2016 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1. The result is obtained using Λ→ pμ−decays as a normalisation channel. The measured branching fraction is$$ \mathcal{B}\left(\Lambda \to p{\mu}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_{\mu}\right)=\left(1.462\pm 0.016\pm 0.100\pm 0.011\right)\times {10}^{-4} $$ B Λ→pμ− ν¯μ = 1.462±0.016±0.100±0.011 ×10−4 , where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the limited knowledge of the normalisation mode branching fraction, respectively. This result improves the precision of the branching fraction measurement by a factor of two compared to the previous best measurement and sets a more stringent bound on lepton flavour universality ins → uquark transitions. It is consistent with previous measurements, and the extracted lepton flavour universality test observable,$$ {R}^{\mu e}=\frac{\Gamma \left(\Lambda \to p{\mu}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_{\mu}\right)}{\Gamma \left(\Lambda \to p{e}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_e\right)}=0.175\pm 0.012 $$ Rμe= Γ Λ→pμ− ν¯μ Γ Λ→pe− ν¯e =0.175±0.012 , agrees with the Standard Model prediction.  more » « less

  1. Abstract In this paper we explorepp→W±(ℓ±ν)γto$$ \mathcal{O}\left(1/{\Lambda}^4\right) $$ O 1/Λ4 in the SMEFT expansion. Calculations to this order are necessary to properly capture SMEFT contributions that grow with energy, as the interference between energy-enhanced SMEFT effects at$$ \mathcal{O}\left(1/{\Lambda}^2\right) $$ O 1/Λ2 and the Standard Model is suppressed. We find that there are several dimension eight operators that interfere with the Standard Model and lead to the same energy growth, ~$$ \mathcal{O}\left({E}^4/{\Lambda}^4\right) $$ O E4/Λ4 , as dimension six squared. While energy-enhanced SMEFT contributions are a main focus, our calculation includes the complete set of$$ \mathcal{O}\left(1/{\Lambda}^4\right) $$ O 1/Λ4 SMEFT effects consistent with U(3)5flavor symmetry. Additionally, we include the decay of theW±→ ℓ±ν, making the calculation actually$$ \overline{q}{q}^{\prime}\to {\ell}^{\pm}\nu \gamma $$ q¯q′→ℓ±νγ . As such, we are able to study the impact of non-resonant SMEFT operators, such as$$ \left({L}^{\dagger }{\overline{\sigma}}^{\mu }{\tau}^IL\right)\left({Q}^{\dagger }{\overline{\sigma}}^{\nu }{\tau}^IQ\right) $$ L†σ¯μτIL Q†σ¯ντIQ Bμν, which contribute to$$ \overline{q}{q}^{\prime}\to {\ell}^{\pm}\nu \gamma $$ q¯q′→ℓ±νγ directly and not to$$ \overline{q}{q}^{\prime}\to {W}^{\pm}\gamma $$ q¯q′→W±γ . We show several distributions to illustrate the shape differences of the different contributions.

  2. Abstract We present a measurement of the ratio$$ {R}_{\mu }=\mathcal{B}\left({\tau}^{-}\to {\mu}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_{\mu }{\nu}_{\tau}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\tau}^{-}\to {e}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_e{\nu}_{\tau}\right) $$ Rμ=B τ−→μ− ν¯μ ντ /B τ−→e− ν¯e ντ of branching fractions$$ \mathcal{B} $$ B of theτlepton decaying to muons or electrons using data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKBe+e−collider. The sample has an integrated luminosity of 362 ± 2 fb−1at a centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. Using an optimised event selection, a binned maximum likelihood fit is performed using the momentum spectra of the electron and muon candidates. The result,Rμ= 0.9675 ± 0.0007 ± 0.0036, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is the most precise to date. It provides a stringent test of the light-lepton universality, translating to a ratio of the couplings of the muon and electron to theWboson inτdecays of 0.9974 ± 0.0019, in agreement with the standard model expectation of unity.

  3. Abstract We point out that using current knowledge of$$ \mathcal{B}\left({K}_L^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right) $$ B KL0→μ+μ− and$$ \mathcal{B}\left({K}_L^0\to \gamma \gamma \right) $$ B KL0→γγ , one can extract short-distance information from the combined measurement of the time-integrated CP asymmetry,ACP(K0→ μ+μ−), and of$$ \mathcal{B}\left({K}_S^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right) $$ B KS0→μ+μ− . We discuss the interplay between this set of observables, and demonstrate that determining sign[ACP(K0→μ+μ−)] would eliminate the discrete ambiguity in the Standard Model prediction for$$ \mathcal{B}\left({K}_L^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right) $$ B KL0→μ+μ− . We then move on to feasibility studies within an LHCb-like setup, using both time-integrated and time-dependent information, employingK0and$$ {\overline{K}}^0 $$ K¯0 tagging methods. We find that, within an optimistic scenario, the short-distance amplitude, proportional to the CKM parameter combination$$ \mid {A}^2{\lambda}^5\overline{\eta}\mid $$ ∣A2λ5η¯∣ , could be constrained by LHCb at the level of about 35% of its Standard Model value, and the discrete ambiguity in$$ \mathcal{B}{\left({K}_L^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)}_{\textrm{SM}} $$ B KL0→μ+μ− SM could be resolved at more than 3σby the end of the high luminosity LHC.

  4. Abstract We develop Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) predictions ofσ($$ \mathcal{GG} $$ GG →h), Γ(h→$$ \mathcal{GG} $$ GG ), Γ(h→$$ \mathcal{AA} $$ AA ) to incorporate full two loop Standard Model results at the amplitude level, in conjunction with dimension eight SMEFT corrections. We simultaneously report consistent Γ(h→$$ \overline{\Psi}\Psi $$ Ψ¯Ψ ) results including leading QCD corrections and dimension eight SMEFT corrections. This extends the predictions of the former processes Γ, σto a full set of corrections at$$ \mathcal{O}\left({\overline{v}}_T^2/{\varLambda}^2{\left(16{\pi}^2\right)}^2\right) $$ O v¯T2 /Λ2 16π2 2 and$$ \mathcal{O}\left({\overline{v}}_T^4/{\Lambda}^4\right) $$ O v¯T4 /Λ4 , where$$ {\overline{v}}_T $$ v¯T is the electroweak scale vacuum expectation value and Λ is the cut off scale of the SMEFT. Throughout, cross consistency between the operator and loop expansions is maintained by the use of the geometric SMEFT formalism. For Γ(h→$$ \overline{\Psi}\Psi $$ Ψ¯Ψ ), we include results at$$ \mathcal{O}\left({\overline{v}}_T^2/{\Lambda}^2\left(16{\pi}^2\right)\right) $$ O v¯T2 /Λ2 16π2 in the limit where subleadingmΨ→ 0 corrections are neglected. We clarify how gauge invariant SMEFT renormalization counterterms combine with the Standard Model counter terms in higher order SMEFT calculations when the Background Field Method is used. We also update the prediction of the total Higgs width in the SMEFT to consistently include some of these higher order perturbative effects.

  5. Abstract This paper describes a measurement of the$$ {\Lambda}_b^0\to J/\psi \Lambda $$ Λb0→J/ψΛ branching fraction using data collected with the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions from 2016 to 2018. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1. The branching fraction is determined relative to that of$$ {B}^0\to J/\psi {K}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ B0→J/ψKS0 decays,$$ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_b^0\to J/\psi \Lambda \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to J/\psi {K}_{\textrm{S}}^0\right)}=0.750\pm 0.005\pm 0.022\pm 0.005\pm 0.062, $$ B Λb0→J/ψΛ B B0→J/ψKS0 =0.750±0.005±0.022±0.005±0.062, yielding$$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_b^0\to J/\psi \Lambda \right)=\left(3.34\pm 0.02\pm 0.10\pm 0.08\pm 0.28\right)\times {10}^{-4} $$ B Λb0→J/ψΛ = 3.34±0.02±0.10±0.08±0.28 ×10−4 , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, the third due to external inputs on branching fractions and the fourth due to the ratio of$$ {\Lambda}_b^0 $$ Λb0 baryon andB0meson hadronisation fractions. In addition, the isospin asymmetry between the rates of$$ {B}^0\to J/\psi {K}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ B0→J/ψKS0 andB+→ J/ψK+decays is measured to be$$ {A}_{\textrm{I}}=-0.0135\pm 0.0004\pm 0.0133, $$ AI=−0.0135±0.0004±0.0133, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
