Title: Comprehensive Analysis of the B0→K*0μ+μ− Decay
An analysis of the B0→K*0(→K+π−)μ+μ− decay is presented using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.4  fb−1 . The full set of CP -averaged and CP -asymmetric angular observables is determined in bins of the invariant mass squared of the dimuon system, as well as the branching fraction relative to the B0→J/ψ(→μ+μ−)K+π− decay. For the first time, the full set of observables pertaining to the K+π− S-wave contribution to the final state are presented and consideration is given to effects arising from the mass of the muons. The extracted CP -asymmetry observables show no significant deviations from zero. The measurements of the CP -averaged observables and the branching fractions continue to exhibit the pattern of tensions with the standard model predictions that have been seen in previous analyses that use part of the dataset considered in this Letter.  more » « less

  1. A search for KS(L)0 →π+π−μ+μ− decays is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . No KS(L)0 →π+π−μ+μ− signals are found and upper limits are set for the first time on the branching fractions B( KS0 → π+π−μ+μ−) <1.4×10−9 and B( KL0 → π+π−μ+μ−) <6.6×10−7 , at the 90% confidence level.

  2. The first searches for B0→K+π−τ+τ− and Bs0 →K+K−τ+τ− decays at the LHCb experiment are conducted with pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The tau leptons are reconstructed using the τ+→μ+ ν¯ τ νμ decay and the results are presented in bins of K+π− or K+K− mass. No signal is observed and upper limits are set on the branching fractions. The searches result in the first upper limits for B0→K+π−τ+τ− decays outside the K*(892)0 region in K+π− mass and the first limits for Bs0 →K+K−τ+τ− decays. The searches are recast into limits on the decays B0→K*(892)0τ+τ− and Bs0 →ϕ(1020)τ+τ− , yielding 2.8×10−4 ( 2.5×10−4 ) and 4.7×10−4 ( 4.1×10−4 ) at the 95% (90%) confidence level, respectively. For the decay B0→K*(892)0τ+τ− , this result improves on the current best upper limit by an order of magnitude.

  3. A search for the rare decay D0→μ+μ− is reported using proton-proton collision events at s=13.6  TeV collected by the CMS detector in 2022–2023, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 64.5  fb−1 . This is the first analysis to use a newly developed inclusive dimuon trigger, expanding the scope of the CMS flavor physics program. The search uses D0 mesons obtained from D*+→D0π+ decays. No significant excess is observed. A limit on the branching fraction of B(D0→μ+μ−)<2.4×10−9 at 95% confidence level is set. This is the most stringent upper limit set on any flavor changing neutral current decay in the charm sector.

  4. We report measurements of time-dependent CP asymmetries in B0→KS0π0γ decays based on a data sample of (388±6)×106  B B¯ events collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle II detector. The Belle II experiment operates at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. We measure decay-time distributions to determine CP -violating parameters S and C . We determine these parameters for two ranges of KS0π0 invariant mass: m( KS0 π0) ∈(0.8,1.0)  GeV/c2 , which is dominated by B0→K*0(→ KS0 π0)γ decays, and a complementary region m( KS0 π0) ∈(0.6,0.8)∪(1.0,1.8)  GeV/c2 . Our results have improved precision as compared to previous measurements and are consistent with theory predictions. Published by the American Physical Society2025

  5. A search for D0 meson decays to the π+π−e+e− and K+K−e+e− final states is reported using a sample of proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb−1 . The decay D0→π+π−e+e− is observed for the first time when requiring that the two electrons are consistent with coming from the decay of a ϕ or ρ0/ω meson. The corresponding branching fractions are measured relative to the D0→K−π−[e+e− ]ρ0/ω decay, where the two electrons are consistent with coming from the decay of a ρ0 or ω meson. No evidence is found for the D0→K+K−e+e− decay and world-best limits are set on its branching fraction. The results are compared to, and found to be consistent with, the branching fractions of the D0→π+π−μ+μ− and D0→K+K−μ+μ− decays recently measured by LHCb and confirm lepton universality at the current precision. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN
