Title: Evidence for the Rare Decay B+→Λ¯pμ+μ−
A search for the rare decay B+→ Λ¯ pμ+μ− is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of s =13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . An excess of events is found with respect to the background-only expectation, with a signal significance of 3.5 standard deviations, in the low invariant-mass region of m( Λ¯ p)<2.8  GeV/c2 . The branching fraction is measured to be Blow (B+→ Λ¯ pμ+μ− )= (1.7 0−0.56+0.65 (stat)±0.17(syst)±0.14(ext)) ×10−8 , where the last uncertainty is due to external inputs on B(B+→ J/ψ Λ¯ p )×B(J/ψ→μ+μ−) . With no significant signal observed in the high m(Λ¯p) region above 2.8  GeV/c2 , an upper limit is set to be Bhigh (B+→ Λ¯ pμ+μ− )<2.8(3.7)×10−9 at the 90% (95%) confidence level.  more » « less

  1. The decay B0→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− KS0 is studied at LHCb for the first time using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of s=13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The branching ratio relative to the decay B+→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− K+ is measured to be [ B(B0→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− KS0 )]/[B(B+→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− K+)]=0.53±0.05±0.05 where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Evidence is found for contributions from two resonant states, Ξc(2923)+ and Ξc(2939)+ , in the Λc+KS0 system. The two states show a significance of 3.9σ relative to the nonresonant hypothesis. These two Ξc+ states are consistent with being the isospin partners of the states observed in the Λc+K− system.

  2. A search is presented for the two-body charmed baryonic decays, B¯ (s)0 → Λc+ Λ¯ c− , using a data sample collected by the LHCb experiment during 2011–2012 and 2015–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . The first observation of the B¯ s0 → Λc+ Λ¯ c− decay is reported with 6.2σ significance along with 4.3σ evidence for the B¯ 0 → Λc+ Λ¯ c− decay. The branching fractions are measured to be B( B¯ 0 → Λc+ Λ¯ c− )=(1.0 1−0.28+0.27 ±0.08±0.15)×10−5 and B( B¯ s0 → Λc+ Λ¯ c− )=(5.0±1.3±0.5±0.8)×10−5 , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to external inputs. These results provide novel experimental inputs for the theoretical framework describing two-body baryonic decays of B mesons via W -emission and W -exchange mechanisms.

  3. A search for the charmless baryonic decay B+→Λ¯pp¯p is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The branching fraction for this decay is measured for the first time relative to that of the topologically similar decay B+→ J/ψK+ , with J/ψ→ Λ¯pK− . The branching fraction is measured to be B(B+→Λ¯pp¯p)=(2.15±0.35±0.12±0.28)×10−7 , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third arises from the uncertainty in the normalization channel branching fraction. The CP asymmetry is measured to be ACP =(5.4±15.6±2.4)% , where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. The background-subtracted invariant-mass distributions of Λ¯p and p¯p pairs exhibit pronounced enhancements at both kinematic thresholds, in contrast to a uniform phase-space distribution.

  4. We report the results of the first search for B− decays to the Ξ¯ c0 Λ¯ c− final state using 711  fb−1 of data collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating B− decay and Ξc0 − Ξ¯ c0 oscillations which follow the standard model decay B−→ Ξc0 Λ¯ c− . We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and standard model branching fractions B(B−→ Ξ¯ c0 Λ¯ c− ) / B(B−→ Ξc0 Λ¯ c− ) to be <2.7% and on the effective angular frequency of mixing ω in Ξc0 − Ξ¯ c0 oscillations to be <0.76  ps−1 (equivalent to τmix >1.3  ps ). 5. The first observation of the decay B+→p Λ¯ is presented using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The signal significance exceeds seven standard deviations. Using the B+→KS0π+ decay as a normalization channel, the branching fraction is measured and combined with previous LHCb results based on data collected at 7 and 8 TeV in 2011 and 2012, yielding B(B+→p Λ¯ )=(1.24±0.17±0.05±0.03)×10−7, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third comes from the uncertainty on the branching fraction of the normalization channel. The B+→p Λ¯ weak decay parameter is measured to be αB =0.8 7−0.29+0.26 ±0.09 , indicating the presence of comparable S-wave and P-wave decay amplitudes.
