Title: Observation of CP Violation in B0→J/ψρ(770)0 Decays
The time-dependent CP asymmetry in B0→J/ψρ(770)0 decays is measured using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb−1 , collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV during the years 2015–2018. The CP -violation parameters for this process are determined to be 2 β c c¯ d eff =0.710±0.084±0.051  rad and |λ|=1.019±0.034±0.024 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This constitutes the first observation of time-dependent CP violation in B0→J/ψρ(770)0 decays. Assuming approximate SU(3) flavor symmetry, these results are combined with the previous consistent LHCb measurement to set the most stringent constraint on the penguin contribution, Δϕs , to the CP -violating phase ϕs in Bs0→J/ψϕ(1020) decays, yielding Δϕs=5.0±4.6  mrad .  more » « less

  1. The first four-dimensional amplitude analysis of the B+→ψ(2S)KS0π+ decay is performed with proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at s=13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The data cannot be fully explained by B+→ψ(2S)K*+ contributions alone. A significantly better description of the data is obtained by adding a T cc¯ + contribution decaying to ψ(2S)π+ . The properties of the T cc¯ + structure are consistent with the exotic state T cc¯1 (4430)+ reported in the isospin-related B¯0→ψ(2S)K−π+ decay. Effects of a possible T cc¯1 (4430)+→ D¯1* (2600)0D+ decay mode on the T cc¯1 (4430)+→ψ(2S)π+ mass distribution are investigated through a Flatté parametrization, providing constraints on the relative decay strength. A description of the T cc¯1 (4430)+ structure using the triangle singularity mechanism is studied and also found to be consistent with the data.

  2. The first observation of the decay Ξb−→ ψ(2S) Ξ− and measurement of the branching ratio of Ξb−→ ψ(2S) Ξ− to Ξb−→J/ψΞ− are presented. The J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are reconstructed using their dimuon decay modes. The results are based on proton-proton colliding beam data from the LHC collected by the CMS experiment at s=13  TeV in 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140  fb−1 . The branching fraction ratio is measured to be B( Ξb− → ψ(2S) Ξ− )/B( Ξb− →J/ψΞ− )=0.8 4−0.19+0.21 (stat)±0.10(syst)±0.02(B) , where the last uncertainty comes from the uncertainties in the branching fractions of the charmonium states. New measurements of the Ξb(5945)0 baryon mass and natural width are also presented, using the Ξb−π+ final state, where the Ξb− baryon is reconstructed through the decays J/ψΞ− , ψ(2S) Ξ− , J/ψΛK− , and J/ψΣ0K− . Finally, the fraction of Ξb− baryons produced from Ξb(5945)0 decays is determined. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2024CERN

  3. An amplitude analysis of the B+→(π+π−)( KS0 π+) decay is performed in the mass regions 0.30< mπ+π− <1.10  GeV/c2 and 0.75< m KS0 π+ <1.20  GeV/c2 , using pp collision data recorded with the LHCb detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . The polarization fractions and CP asymmetries for B+→ρ(770)0K*(892)+ decays are measured. Violation of the CP symmetry in the decay B+→ρ(770)0K*(892)+ is observed for the first time, with a significance exceeding 9 standard deviations. The CP asymmetry is measured to be ACP = 0.507±0.062(stat)±0.024(syst) and the CP -averaged longitudinal polarization fraction of fL= 0.720±0.028(stat)±0.009(syst) . The measurements help to shed light on the polarization puzzle of B mesons decaying to two vector mesons.

  4. The Ξb0(−) → Ξc (3055)+(0)(→D+(0)Λ)π− decay chains are observed, and the spin-parity of Ξc(3055)+(0) baryons is determined for the first time. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of s=13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 , recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018. The spin-parity of the Ξc (3055)+(0) baryons is determined to be 3/2+ with a significance of more than 6.5σ ( 3.5σ ) compared to all other tested hypotheses. The up-down asymmetries of the Ξb0(−) → Ξc (3055)+(0)π− transitions are measured to be −0.92±0.10±0.05 ( −0.92±0.16±0.22 ), consistent with maximal parity violation, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These results support the hypothesis that the Ξc(3055)+(0) baryons correspond to the first D -wave λ -mode excitation of the Ξc flavor triplet. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN

  5. Muon-electron universality is tested in B0→K*0ℓ+ℓ− decays, in the dilepton-invariant-mass region above the ψ(2S) resonance. The analysis uses beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions recorded by the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . The ratio of branching fractions between the muon and electron channels RK*0 is measured to be 1.08−0.12+0.14 (stat)±0.07(syst) for a dilepton-invariant-mass squared above 14.0  GeV2/c4 , consistent with the standard model prediction. This result represents the most precise measurement of RK*0 in this region and the first such measurement performed at a hadron collider.
