Title: B -jet fragmentation with B±→J/ψK± decays in s=13  TeV pp collisions at LHCb
The collinear and transverse-momentum-dependent jet fragmentation function and the radial profile for B± mesons in jets are measured. The B± mesons are reconstructed through the J/ψ(→μ+μ−)K± decay channel using proton-proton collision data collected during 2016–2018 with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass (c.m.) energy of s=13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The results complement recent measurements of jet fragmentation functions for heavy-flavor hadrons and suggest a growing contribution of gluon fragmentation to B± mesons as the jet transverse momentum increases.  more » « less

  1. We search for the e+e−→γ χbJ ( J=0 , 1, 2) processes at center-of-mass energies s=10.653 , 10.701, 10.746, and 10.804 GeV. These data were collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider and correspond to 3.5, 1.6, 9.8, and 4.7  fb−1 of integrated luminosity, respectively. We set upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the Born cross sections for e+e−→γ χbJ at each center-of-mass energy s near 10.746 GeV. The upper limits at 90% confidence level on the Born cross sections for e+e−→γ χb1 are significantly smaller than the corresponding measured values for e+e−→ω χb1 and e+e−→π+π−ϒ(2S) at s=10.746  GeV .

  2. Using proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment at s =13  TeV in 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140  fb−1 , the first full reconstruction of the three vector B meson states, B*+ , B*0 , and Bs*0 , is performed. The mass differences between the excited mesons and their corresponding ground states are measured to be m(B*+)−m(B+)=45.277±0.039±0.027  MeV , m(B*0)−m(B0)=45.471±0.056±0.028  MeV , and m( Bs*0 ) − m( Bs0 ) =49.407±0.132±0.041  MeV , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results improve on the precision of previous measurements by an order of magnitude.

  3. A search for the rare decay D0→μ+μ− is reported using proton-proton collision events at s=13.6  TeV collected by the CMS detector in 2022–2023, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 64.5  fb−1 . This is the first analysis to use a newly developed inclusive dimuon trigger, expanding the scope of the CMS flavor physics program. The search uses D0 mesons obtained from D*+→D0π+ decays. No significant excess is observed. A limit on the branching fraction of B(D0→μ+μ−)<2.4×10−9 at 95% confidence level is set. This is the most stringent upper limit set on any flavor changing neutral current decay in the charm sector.

  4. A search for flavor violating decays of the Z boson to charged leptons is performed using data from proton-proton collisions at s=13  TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138  fb−1 . Each of the decays Z→eμ , Z→eτ , and Z→μτ is considered. The data are consistent with the backgrounds expected from standard model processes. For the Z→eμ channel the observed (expected) 95% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction is 1.9(2.0)×10−7 , which is the most stringent direct limit to date on this process; the corresponding limits for the Z→eτ and Z→μτ channels are 13.8(11.4)×10−6 and 12.0(5.3)×10−6 , respectively. Additionally, the eμ final state is used to search for lepton flavor violating decays of Z′ resonances in the mass range from 110 to 500  GeV . No significant excess is observed above the predicted background levels.

  5. The first observation of the decay Ξb−→ ψ(2S) Ξ− and measurement of the branching ratio of Ξb−→ ψ(2S) Ξ− to Ξb−→J/ψΞ− are presented. The J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are reconstructed using their dimuon decay modes. The results are based on proton-proton colliding beam data from the LHC collected by the CMS experiment at s=13  TeV in 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140  fb−1 . The branching fraction ratio is measured to be B( Ξb− → ψ(2S) Ξ− )/B( Ξb− →J/ψΞ− )=0.8 4−0.19+0.21 (stat)±0.10(syst)±0.02(B) , where the last uncertainty comes from the uncertainties in the branching fractions of the charmonium states. New measurements of the Ξb(5945)0 baryon mass and natural width are also presented, using the Ξb−π+ final state, where the Ξb− baryon is reconstructed through the decays J/ψΞ− , ψ(2S) Ξ− , J/ψΛK− , and J/ψΣ0K− . Finally, the fraction of Ξb− baryons produced from Ξb(5945)0 decays is determined. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2024CERN
