Title: Test of Lepton Flavor Universality with B0→K*0ℓ+ℓ− Decays at Large Dilepton Invariant Mass
Muon-electron universality is tested in B0→K*0ℓ+ℓ− decays, in the dilepton-invariant-mass region above the ψ(2S) resonance. The analysis uses beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions recorded by the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . The ratio of branching fractions between the muon and electron channels RK*0 is measured to be 1.08−0.12+0.14 (stat)±0.07(syst) for a dilepton-invariant-mass squared above 14.0  GeV2/c4 , consistent with the standard model prediction. This result represents the most precise measurement of RK*0 in this region and the first such measurement performed at a hadron collider.  more » « less

  1. An amplitude analysis of B−→D−D0 KS0 decays is performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 , collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. A resonant structure of spin-parity 0+ is observed in the D0KS0 invariant-mass spectrum with a significance of 5.3σ . The mass and width of the state, modeled with a Breit-Wigner line shape, are determined to be 2883±11±8  MeV/c2 and 87−47+22 ±17  MeV , respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These properties and the quark content are consistent with those of the open-charm tetraquark candidate Tcs0* (2870)0 observed previously in the D+K− final state of the B−→D−D+K− decay. This result confirms the existence of the Tcs0* (2870)0 state in a new decay mode. The Tcs1* (2900)0 state, reported in the B−→D−D+K− decay, is also searched for in the D0KS0 invariant-mass spectrum of the B−→D−D0KS0 decay, without finding evidence for it. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN

  2. A time- and flavor-integrated amplitude analysis of B0 and Bs0 decays to the (K+π−)(K−π+) final state in the K*(892)0K¯*(892)0 region is presented, using pp collision data recorded with the LHCb detector in 2011–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . The branching fractions of the B0 and Bs0 decays are measured relative to the B0→D−π+ and Bs0→Ds−π+ modes, respectively. The corresponding longitudinal polarization fractions are found to be fLd=0.600±0.022±0.017 and fLs=0.159±0.010±0.007 , where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The theory-motivated ratio of the squared Bs0 to B0 longitudinally polarized decay amplitudes is found to be LK*0K¯*0 =4.92±0.55±0.48±0.02±0.10 , where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, due to uncertainty of external mass and lifetime measurements, and due to knowledge of the fragmentation fraction ratio, respectively. This confirms the previously reported tension between experimental determinations and theoretical predictions of longitudinal polarization in B→VV decays at the level of 4.4 standard deviations.

  3. We present the first search for the lepton-flavor-violating decay modes B0→ KS0 τ±ℓ∓ ( ℓ=μ,e ) using the 711 and 365  fb−1 data samples recorded by the Belle and Belle II detectors, respectively. We use a hadronic B -tagging technique to fully reconstruct a B meson and search for signal decays in the system recoiling against the tagged meson, considering τ decays to either light leptons, one charged hadron, or one charged hadron and a neutral pion. We find no evidence for B0→ KS0 τ±ℓ∓ decays and set 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range of [0.8,3.6]×10−5 .

  4. The first searches for B0→K+π−τ+τ− and Bs0 →K+K−τ+τ− decays at the LHCb experiment are conducted with pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The tau leptons are reconstructed using the τ+→μ+ ν¯ τ νμ decay and the results are presented in bins of K+π− or K+K− mass. No signal is observed and upper limits are set on the branching fractions. The searches result in the first upper limits for B0→K+π−τ+τ− decays outside the K*(892)0 region in K+π− mass and the first limits for Bs0 →K+K−τ+τ− decays. The searches are recast into limits on the decays B0→K*(892)0τ+τ− and Bs0 →ϕ(1020)τ+τ− , yielding 2.8×10−4 ( 2.5×10−4 ) and 4.7×10−4 ( 4.1×10−4 ) at the 95% (90%) confidence level, respectively. For the decay B0→K*(892)0τ+τ− , this result improves on the current best upper limit by an order of magnitude.

  5. The time-dependent CP asymmetry in B0→J/ψρ(770)0 decays is measured using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb−1 , collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV during the years 2015–2018. The CP -violation parameters for this process are determined to be 2 β c c¯ d eff =0.710±0.084±0.051  rad and |λ|=1.019±0.034±0.024 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This constitutes the first observation of time-dependent CP violation in B0→J/ψρ(770)0 decays. Assuming approximate SU(3) flavor symmetry, these results are combined with the previous consistent LHCb measurement to set the most stringent constraint on the penguin contribution, Δϕs , to the CP -violating phase ϕs in Bs0→J/ψϕ(1020) decays, yielding Δϕs=5.0±4.6  mrad .
