Title: Observation of the Doubly Charmed Baryon Ξcc+ with the LHCb Run 3 Detector
The first observation of the doubly charmed baryon Ξcc+ is reported through its decay to the Λc+ K−π+ final state, with a statistical significance exceeding seven standard deviations. The observation is made using proton-proton collision data collected in 2024 with the LHCb Run 3 detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13.6 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 6.9  fb−1 . The Ξcc+ mass is measured to be 3619.97±0.83± 0.26−1.30+1.90   MeV/c2 , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the unknown Ξcc+ lifetime, which is assumed to lie in the range 15–160 fs with a baseline value of 45 fs. The difference between the masses of the Ξcc+ and Ξcc++ baryons is determined to be −1.77±0.84± 0.15−1.30+1.90   MeV/c2 . This is the first observation of a new particle made with the LHCb Run 3 detector.  more » « less

  1. The Ξc+ π−π+ spectrum is investigated using proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 , collected by the LHCb experiment during 2016–2018. Four states are observed with high significance, and their masses and widths are measured to be m[ Ξc (2815)+]=2816.65±0.03±0.03±0.23  MeV , Γ[ Ξc (2815)+]=2.07±0.08±0.12  MeV , m[ Ξc (2923)+]=2922.8±0.3±0.5±0.2  MeV , Γ[ Ξc (2923)+]=5.3±0.9±1.4  MeV , m[ Ξc (2970)+]=2968.6±0.5±0.5±0.2  MeV , Γ[ Ξc (2970)+]=31.7±1.7±1.9  MeV , m[ Ξc (3080)+]=3076.8±0.7±1.3±0.2  MeV , Γ[ Ξc (3080)+]=6.8±2.3±0.9  MeV , where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the limited precision on the Ξc+ mass, respectively. The Ξc(2923)+ baryon is observed for the first time, and is consistent with being the isospin partner of the previously observed Ξc(2923)0 state. Most of the measured parameters are more precise than existing world averages.

  2. The decay B0→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− KS0 is studied at LHCb for the first time using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of s=13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The branching ratio relative to the decay B+→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− K+ is measured to be [ B(B0→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− KS0 )]/[B(B+→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− K+)]=0.53±0.05±0.05 where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Evidence is found for contributions from two resonant states, Ξc(2923)+ and Ξc(2939)+ , in the Λc+KS0 system. The two states show a significance of 3.9σ relative to the nonresonant hypothesis. These two Ξc+ states are consistent with being the isospin partners of the states observed in the Λc+K− system.

  3. A study of Λb0 and Ξb0 decays to Λh+h′− ( h(′)=π,K ) is performed using pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment during LHC Runs 1–2, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . The branching fractions for these decays are measured using the Λb0 → Λc+ (→Λπ+)π− decay as a control channel. The decays Λb0→Λπ+π− and Ξb0→ΛK−π+ are observed for the first time. For decay modes with sufficient signal yields, CP asymmetries are measured in the full and localized regions of the final-state phase space. Evidence is found for CP violation in the Λb0→ΛK+K− decay, interpreted as originating primarily from an asymmetric Λb0→N*+K− decay amplitude. The measured CP asymmetries for other decays are compatible with zero. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN

  4. An amplitude analysis of the Ξc+→pK−π+ decay together with a measurement of the Ξc+ polarization vector in semileptonic beauty-hadron decays is presented. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . An amplitude model is developed and the resonance fractions as well as two- and three-body decay parameters are reported. A sizeable Ξc+ polarization is found. A large sensitivity of the Ξc+→pK−π+ decay to the polarization is seen, making the amplitude model suitable for Ξc+ polarization measurements in other systems.

  5. Using data samples of 988.4  fb−1 and 427.9  fb−1 collected with the Belle and Belle II detectors, we present a study of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays Ξc0→Λη , Λη′ , and Λπ0 . We observe the decay  Ξc0→Λη and find evidence for the decay Ξc0→Λη′ , with corresponding branching ratios determined to be B(Ξc0→Λη) / B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+) =(4.16±0.91±0.23)% and B(Ξc0→Λη′) / B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+) =(2.48±0.82±0.12)% , respectively. We find no significant signal in the Ξc0→Λπ0 decay mode and set an upper limit at the 90% credibility level of B(Ξc0→Λπ0) / B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+) <3.5% . Multiplying these ratios by the world-average branching fraction of the normalization channel, B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+)=(1.43±0.27)% , we obtain the absolute branching fractions of B(Ξc0→Λη)=(5.95±1.30±0.32±1.13)×10−4 , B(Ξc0→Λη′)=(3.55±1.17±0.17±0.68)×10−4 , and an upper limit at the 90% credibility level on the absolute branching fraction of B(Ξc0→Λπ0)<5.2×10−4 . The quoted first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third uncertainties arise from the branching fraction of the normalization mode. These results are consistent with most theoretical predictions and further the understanding of the underlying decay mechanisms.
