Title: Simultaneous Probe of the Charm and Bottom Quark Yukawa Couplings Using tt¯H Events
A search for the standard model Higgs boson decaying to a charm quark-antiquark pair, H→ c c¯ , produced in association with a top quark-antiquark pair ( tt¯ H ) is presented. The search is performed with data from proton-proton collisions at s=13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138  fb−1 . Advanced machine learning techniques are employed for jet flavor identification and event classification. The Higgs boson decay to a bottom quark-antiquark pair is measured simultaneously and the observed t t¯ H ( H→b b¯ ) event rate relative to the standard model expectation is 0.91−0.22+0.26 . The observed (expected) upper limit on the product of production cross section and branching fraction σ( t t¯ H)B(H→c c¯ ) is 0.11 (0.13) pb at 95% confidence level, corresponding to 7.8 (8.7) times the standard model prediction. When combined with the previous search for H→ cc¯ via associated production with a W or Z boson, the observed (expected) 95% confidence interval on the Higgs-charm Yukawa coupling modifier, κc , is |κc| <3.5 (2.7), the most stringent constraint to date.  more » « less

  1. The first four-dimensional amplitude analysis of the B+→ψ(2S)KS0π+ decay is performed with proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at s=13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The data cannot be fully explained by B+→ψ(2S)K*+ contributions alone. A significantly better description of the data is obtained by adding a T cc¯ + contribution decaying to ψ(2S)π+ . The properties of the T cc¯ + structure are consistent with the exotic state T cc¯1 (4430)+ reported in the isospin-related B¯0→ψ(2S)K−π+ decay. Effects of a possible T cc¯1 (4430)+→ D¯1* (2600)0D+ decay mode on the T cc¯1 (4430)+→ψ(2S)π+ mass distribution are investigated through a Flatté parametrization, providing constraints on the relative decay strength. A description of the T cc¯1 (4430)+ structure using the triangle singularity mechanism is studied and also found to be consistent with the data.

  2. A search for the nonresonant production of Higgs boson pairs in the HH→bb¯τ+τ− channel is performed using 140  fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The analysis strategy is optimized to probe anomalous values of the Higgs boson self-coupling modifier κλ and of the quartic HHVV ( V=W,Z ) coupling modifier κ2V . No significant excess above the expected background from Standard Model processes is observed. An observed (expected) upper limit μHH <5.9(3.3) is set at 95% confidence-level on the Higgs boson pair production cross section normalized to its Standard Model prediction. The coupling modifiers are constrained to an observed (expected) 95% confidence interval of −3.1<κλ<9.0 ( −2.5<κλ<9.3 ) and −0.5< κ2V <2.7 ( −0.2< κ2V <2.4 ), assuming all other Higgs boson couplings are fixed to the Standard Model prediction. The results are also interpreted in the context of effective field theories via constraints on anomalous Higgs boson couplings and Higgs boson pair production cross sections assuming different kinematic benchmark scenarios. © 2024 CERN, for the ATLAS Collaboration2024CERN

  3. We report the first search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decays B→Xsνν¯ , where Xs is a hadronic system with strangeness equal to 1, in data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 365  fb−1 collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance and 43  fb−1 collected at a center-of-mass energy 60 MeV below resonance for estimation of e+e−→qq¯ continuum background. One of the B mesons from the ϒ(4S)→B B¯ decay is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. The B→Xsνν¯ decay is reconstructed with a sum-of-exclusives approach that uses 30 Xs decay modes. This approach provides high sensitivity to the inclusive decay, despite the presence of two undetected neutrinos. The search is performed in three regions of the Xs mass, MXstrue , chosen to separate contributions from K , K*(892) , and heavier strange final states. We do not observe a significant signal and set upper limits at 90% confidence level on the partial branching fractions for the regions 0.0< M Xs true <0.6  GeV/c2 , 0.6< MXstrue <1.0  GeV/c2 , and 1.0  GeV/c2< MXstrue of 2.2×10−5 , 9.3×10−5 , and 30.9×10−5 , respectively. Combining the three mass regions, we obtain the upper limit on the branching fraction, B(B→ Xs ν ν¯ )<3.3×10−4 .

  4. A search for the charmless baryonic decay B+→Λ¯pp¯p is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The branching fraction for this decay is measured for the first time relative to that of the topologically similar decay B+→ J/ψK+ , with J/ψ→ Λ¯pK− . The branching fraction is measured to be B(B+→Λ¯pp¯p)=(2.15±0.35±0.12±0.28)×10−7 , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third arises from the uncertainty in the normalization channel branching fraction. The CP asymmetry is measured to be ACP =(5.4±15.6±2.4)% , where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. The background-subtracted invariant-mass distributions of Λ¯p and p¯p pairs exhibit pronounced enhancements at both kinematic thresholds, in contrast to a uniform phase-space distribution.

  5. We report the results of the first search for B− decays to the Ξ¯ c0 Λ¯ c− final state using 711  fb−1 of data collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating B− decay and Ξc0 − Ξ¯ c0 oscillations which follow the standard model decay B−→ Ξc0 Λ¯ c− . We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and standard model branching fractions B(B−→ Ξ¯ c0 Λ¯ c− ) / B(B−→ Ξc0 Λ¯ c− ) to be <2.7% and on the effective angular frequency of mixing ω in Ξc0 − Ξ¯ c0 oscillations to be <0.76  ps−1 (equivalent to τmix >1.3  ps ).
