Volume leakage, coupled with prior knowledge about data distribution and/or previously executed queries, can reveal both ciphertexts and current user queries. We develop a solution to prevent volume leakage, entitled Veil, that partitions the dataset by randomly mapping keys to a set of equi-sized buckets. Veil provides a tunable mechanism for data owners to explore a trade-off between storage and communication overheads. To make buckets indistinguishable to the adversary, Veil uses a novel padding strategy that allow buckets to overlap, reducing the need to add fake records. Both theoretical and experimental results show Veil to significantly outperform existing state-of-the-art.&lt;/p&gt;</dc:description><dc:publisher>ACM</dc:publisher><dc:date>2023-12-08</dc:date><dc:nsf_par_id>10523002</dc:nsf_par_id><dc:journal_name>Proceedings of the ACM on Management of Data</dc:journal_name><dc:journal_volume>1</dc:journal_volume><dc:journal_issue>4</dc:journal_issue><dc:page_range_or_elocation>1 to 27</dc:page_range_or_elocation><dc:issn>2836-6573</dc:issn><dc:isbn/><dc:doi>https://doi.org/10.1145/3626759</dc:doi><dcq:identifierAwardId>2245372; 2212129</dcq:identifierAwardId><dc:subject/><dc:version_number/><dc:location/><dc:rights/><dc:institution/><dc:sponsoring_org>National Science Foundation</dc:sponsoring_org></record></records></rdf:RDF>
