Consequently, dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) and dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP) are thought to be the primary sources of assimilative nutrients on the WFS. Here we report measurements of total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) and total dissolved phosphorus (TDP) concentrations made on samples collected quarterly from rivers draining onto the WFS as well as from submarine groundwater wells on three transects extending from the Florida Nature Coast in the north to Venice Headland in the south. Elevated concentrations of TDN (&amp;gt;12 µM) and TDP (&amp;gt;0.5 µM) were observed in riverine and groundwater samples, as well as in the shallow, nearshore region, while to the west concentrations of both TDN and TDP decreased to values typically associated with oligotrophic North Atlantic waters (4 to 5 µM TDN and 0.05 to 0.1 µM TDP)."]}</dc:description><dc:publisher>Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO)</dc:publisher><dc:date>2025-12-12</dc:date><dc:nsf_par_id>10675981</dc:nsf_par_id><dc:journal_name/><dc:journal_volume/><dc:journal_issue/><dc:page_range_or_elocation/><dc:issn/><dc:isbn/><dc:doi>https://doi.org/10.26008/1912/bco-dmo.989225.1</dc:doi><dcq:identifierAwardId>2506248; 2148989</dcq:identifierAwardId><dc:subject>West Florida Shelf</dc:subject><dc:subject>dissolved organic nitrogen</dc:subject><dc:subject>dissolved organic phosphorus</dc:subject><dc:subject>Gulf of Mexico</dc:subject><dc:version_number>1</dc:version_number><dc:location>Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office</dc:location><dc:rights/><dc:institution>Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution</dc:institution><dc:sponsoring_org>National Science Foundation</dc:sponsoring_org></record></records></rdf:RDF>
