Abstract or$$te^- \bar{t}e^+$$ in final states with multiple leptons is presented. The search is based on a dataset of$$t\mu ^- \bar{t}\mu ^+$$ pp collisions at recorded with the ATLAS detector during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$$\sqrt{s}=13~\text {TeV} $$ . Four signal regions, with the requirement of at least three light leptons (electron or muon) and at least two jets out of which at least one jet is identified as coming from a$$^{-1}$$ b -hadron, are considered based on the number of leptons of a given flavour. The main background processes are estimated using dedicated control regions in a simultaneous fit with the signal regions to data. No excess above the Standard Model background prediction is observed and 95% confidence level limits on the production cross section times branching ratio are derived as a function of the leptoquark mass. Under the assumption of exclusive decays into ($$te^{-}$$ ), the corresponding lower limit on the scalar mixed-generation leptoquark mass$$t\mu ^{-}$$ is at 1.58 (1.59) TeV and on the vector leptoquark mass$$m_{\textrm{LQ}_{\textrm{mix}}^{\textrm{d}}}$$ at 1.67 (1.67) TeV in the minimal coupling scenario and at 1.95 (1.95) TeV in the Yang–Mills scenario.$$m_{{\tilde{U}}_1}$$ Free, publicly-accessible full text available August 1, 2025 -
A search for high-mass resonances decaying into a-lepton and a neutrino using proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy ofis presented. The full run 2 data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity ofrecorded by the ATLAS experiment in the years 2015–2018 is analyzed. The-lepton is reconstructed in its hadronic decay modes and the total transverse momentum carried out by neutrinos is inferred from the reconstructed missing transverse momentum. The search for new physics is performed on the transverse mass between the-lepton and the missing transverse momentum. No excess of events above the Standard Model expectation is observed and upper exclusion limits are set on theproduction cross section. Heavyvector bosons with masses up to 5.0 TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level, assuming that they have the same couplings as the Standard Modelboson. For nonuniversal couplings, bosons are excluded for masses less than 3.5–5.0 TeV, depending on the model parameters. In addition, model-independent limits on the visible cross section times branching ratio are determined as a function of the lower threshold on the transverse mass of the-lepton and missing transverse momentum.

A bstract A search for pair production of squarks or gluinos decaying via sleptons or weak bosons is reported. The search targets a final state with exactly two leptons with same-sign electric charge or at least three leptons without any charge requirement. The analysed data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb
− 1of proton-proton collisions collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Multiple signal regions are defined, targeting several SUSY simplified models yielding the desired final states. A single control region is used to constrain the normalisation of theWZ + jets background. No significant excess of events over the Standard Model expectation is observed. The results are interpreted in the context of several supersymmetric models featuring R-parity conservation or R-parity violation, yielding exclusion limits surpassing those from previous searches. In models considering gluino (squark) pair production, gluino (squark) masses up to 2.2 (1.7) TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.Free, publicly-accessible full text available February 1, 2025 -

A bstract A search for new heavy scalars with flavour-violating decays in final states with multiple leptons and
b -tagged jets is presented. The results are interpreted in terms of a general two-Higgs-doublet model involving an additional scalar with couplings to the top-quark and the three up-type quarks (ρ tt ,ρ tc , andρ tu ). The targeted signals lead to final states with either a same-sign top-quark pair, three top-quarks, or four top-quarks. The search is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at = 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$$ \sqrt{s} $$ − 1. Events are categorised depending on the multiplicity of light charged leptons (electrons or muons), total lepton charge, and a deep-neural-network output to enhance the purity of each of the signals. Masses of an additional scalar bosonm H between 200 − 630 GeV with couplingsρ tt = 0. 4,ρ tc = 0. 2, andρ tu = 0. 2 are excluded at 95% confidence level. Additional interpretations are provided in models ofR -parity violating supersymmetry, motivated by the recent flavour and (g − 2)μ anomalies.Free, publicly-accessible full text available December 1, 2024 -
A bstract A search for a new massive charged gauge boson,
W ′, is performed with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The dataset used in this analysis was collected from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of = 13 TeV, and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$$ \sqrt{s} $$ − 1. The reconstructedtb invariant mass is used to search for aW ′ boson decaying into a top quark and a bottom quark. The result is interpreted in terms of aW ′ boson with purely right-handed or left-handed chirality in a mass range of 0.5–6 TeV. Different values for the coupling of theW ′ boson to the top and bottom quarks are considered, taking into account interference with single-top-quark production in thes -channel. No significant deviation from the background prediction is observed. The results are expressed as upper limits on theW ′ →tb production cross-section times branching ratio as a function of theW ′-boson mass and in the plane of the coupling vs theW ′-boson mass.Free, publicly-accessible full text available December 1, 2024 -

A bstract A search for supersymmetry targeting the direct production of winos and higgsinos is conducted in final states with either two leptons (
e orμ ) with the same electric charge, or three leptons. The analysis uses 139 fb− 1ofpp collision data at = 13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess over the Standard Model expectation is observed. Simplified and complete models with and without$$ \sqrt{s} $$ R -parity conservation are considered. In topologies with intermediate states including eitherWh orWZ pairs, wino masses up to 525 GeV and 250 GeV are excluded, respectively, for a bino of vanishing mass. Higgsino masses smaller than 440 GeV are excluded in a naturalR -parity-violating model with bilinear terms. Upper limits on the production cross section of generic events beyond the Standard Model as low as 40 ab are obtained in signal regions optimised for these models and also for anR -parity-violating scenario with baryon-number-violating higgsino decays into top quarks and jets. The analysis significantly improves sensitivity to supersymmetric models and other processes beyond the Standard Model that may contribute to the considered final states.Free, publicly-accessible full text available November 1, 2024 -
A bstract A search for a new heavy scalar particle
X decaying into a Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson and a new singlet scalar particleS is presented. The search uses a proton-proton (pp ) collision data sample with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb− 1recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The most sensitive mass parameter space is explored in$$ \sqrt{s} $$ X mass ranging from 500 to 1500 GeV, with the correspondingS mass in the range 200–500 GeV. The search selects events with two hadronically decayingτ -lepton candidates fromH →τ +τ − decays and one or two light leptons (ℓ =e ,μ ) fromS →VV (V =W ,Z ) decays while the remainingV boson decays hadronically or to neutrinos. A multivariate discriminant based on event kinematics is used to separate the signal from the background. No excess is observed beyond the expected SM background and 95% confidence level upper limits between 72 fb and 542 fb are derived on the cross-sectionσ (pp →X →SH ) assuming the same SM-Higgs boson-like decay branching ratios for theS →VV decay. Upper limits on the visible cross-sectionsσ (pp →X →SH →WWττ ) andσ (pp →X →SH →ZZττ ) are also set in the ranges 3–26 fb and 6–33 fb, respectively.
