However, energy and water systems are usually developed and managed independently. In the quest to develop environmental and energy‐friendly solutions for water and energy issues, photoelectrochemical (PEC) energy conversion and microbial electrochemical systems (MEC) demonstrate profound potentials in addressing environmental remediation problems as well as harvesting energy at the same time.
