  1. Badilla, Adrián (Ed.)
Lomas Entierros is a settlement with monumental architecture located in the Central Pacific sub-region, Costa Rica. The site is characterized by its strategic position on top of a hill on the left bank of the Tárcoles river, between the coastal plain and the piedmont. Lomas Entierros contains numerous and varied exchange goods from the Greater Nicoya region, including polychrome and incised pottery, red and green jasper tools, metates, and manos. Other possible connections with this region derived from the presence of bifacial tool technology and carved bone pendants. The architectural configuration of the site and the type of imported objects are described in this article. Comparisons to other sites in the Central Pacific permit to recognize the role of the settlement within the interregional exchange networks. The gateway community and etnias bisagra concepts are discussed and used to understand the relationship between the architectural complexity and growth of the site and its link to interregional exchange.
