Abstract A search for the doubly charmed baryon Ω cc + with the decay mode Ω cc + → Ξ c + K − π + is performed using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb −1 . No significant signal is observed within the invariant mass range of 3.6 to 4.0GeV/ c 2 . Upper limits are set on the ratio R of the production cross-section times the total branching fraction of the Ω cc + → Ξ c + K − π + decay with respect to the $$\Xi _{cc}^{ + + } \to \Lambda _c^ + {K^ - }{\pi ^ + }{\pi ^ + }$$ Ξ c c + + → Λ c + K − π + π + decay. Upper limits at 95% credibility level for R in the range 0.005 to 0.11 are obtained for different hypotheses on the Ω cc + mass and lifetime in the rapidity range from 2.0 to 4.5 and transverse momentum range from 4 to 15 GeV/ c .more » « less

ABSTRACT In recent years, cosmological hydrodynamical simulations have proven their utility as key interpretative tools in the study of galaxy formation and evolution. In this work, we present a comparative analysis of the baryon cycle in three publicly available, leading cosmological simulation suites: EAGLE, IllustrisTNG, and SIMBA. While these simulations broadly agree in terms of their predictions for the stellar mass content and star formation rates of galaxies at $$z\approx 0$$, they achieve this result for markedly different reasons. In EAGLE and SIMBA, we demonstrate that at low halo masses ($$M_{\rm 200c}\lesssim 10^{11.5}\, \mathrm{M}_{\odot }$$), stellar feedback (SF)-driven outflows can reach far beyond the scale of the halo, extending up to $$2\!-\!3\times R_{\rm 200c}$$. In contrast, in TNG, SF-driven outflows, while stronger at the scale of the interstellar medium, recycle within the circumgalactic medium (within $$R_{\rm 200c}$$). We find that active galactic nucleus (AGN)-driven outflows in SIMBA are notably potent, reaching several times $$R_{\rm 200c}$$ even at halo masses up to $$M_{\rm 200c}\approx 10^{13.5}\, \mathrm{M}_{\odot }$$. In both TNG and EAGLE, AGN feedback can eject gas beyond $$R_{\rm 200c}$$ at this mass scale, but seldom beyond $$2\!-\!3\times R_{\rm 200c}$$. We find that the scale of feedback-driven outflows can be directly linked with the prevention of cosmological inflow, as well as the total baryon fraction of haloes within $$R_{\rm 200c}$$. This work lays the foundation to develop targeted observational tests that can discriminate between feedback scenarios, and inform subgrid feedback models in the next generation of simulations.more » « less

Progress in computing various meson-baryon scattering amplitudes is presented on a single en- semble from the Coordinated Lattice Simulations (CLS) consortium with m π = 200 MeV and Nf = 2 + 1 dynamical fermions. The finite-volume Lüscher approach is employed to determine the lowest few partial waves from ground- and excited-state energies computed from correla- tion matrices rotated in a single pivot using a generalized eigenvector solution. This analysis requires evaluating matrices of correlation functions between single- and two-hadron interpolat- ing operators which are projected onto definite spatial momenta and finite-volume irreducible representations. The stochastic LapH method is used to estimate all needed quark propagators. Preliminary results are presented for I = 1/2, 3/2 N π amplitudes including the ∆(1232) resonance and the I = 0 S-wave amplitude with unit strangeness relevant for the Λ(1405).more » « less

WIMP-type dark matter may have additional interactions that break baryon number, leading to induced nucleon decays which are subject to direct experimental constraints from proton decay experiments. In this work, we analyze the possibility of continuous baryon destruction, deriving strong limits from the dark matter accumulating inside old neutron stars, as such a process leads to excess heat generation. We construct the simplest particle dark matter model that breaks the baryon and lepton numbers separately but conserves . Virtual exchange by DM particles in this model results in dinucleon decay via and processes. Published by the American Physical Society2025more » « less
