Title: Redetermination of poly[di-μ 3 -iodido-[μ-1,2- trans -(pyridin-4-yl)ethene-κ 2 N : N ′]dicopper(I)]
The re-investigated structure of the title compound, [Cu 2 I 2 (C 12 H 10 N 2 )] n , a two-dimensional coordination polymer crystallizing with monoclinic ( P 2 1 / n ) symmetry, is based on data collected at 100 K, while the previously reported structure was obtained with data collected at 203 K [Blake et al. (1999). Cryst. Eng. 2 , 181–195]. The refinement of the crystal structure is greatly improved; for example, the wR 2 residual converges to 0.047 for 1532 independent data, versus wR 2 = 0.179 for 992 independent data in the 1999 study.  more » « less

The title compound, [Cu 2 (C 19 H 23 N 7 O)(C 2 H 3 O 2 ) 4 ] n , was obtained via reaction of copper(II) acetate with the coordinating ligand, 6-ethoxy- N 2 , N 4 -bis[2-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl]-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine. The crystallized product adopts the monoclinic P 2 1 / c space group. The metal core exhibits a paddle-wheel structure typical for dicopper tetraacetate units, with triazine and pyridyl nitrogen atoms from different ligands coordinating to the two axial positions of the paddle wheel in an asymmetric manner. This forms a coordination polymer with the segments of the polymer created by the c -glide of the P 2 1 / c setting of the space group. The resulting chains running along the c -axis direction are held together by intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonding. These chains are further packed by dispersion forces, producing an extended three-dimensional structure.

  2. Abstract The gas-phase reaction of O + H 3 + has two exothermic product channels: OH + + H 2 and H 2 O + + H. In the present study, we analyze experimental data from a merged-beams measurement to derive thermal rate coefficients resolved by product channel for the temperature range from 10 to 1000 K. Published astrochemical models either ignore the second product channel or apply a temperature-independent branching ratio of 70% versus 30% for the formation of OH + + H 2 versus H 2 O + + H, respectively, which originates from a single experimental data point measured at 295 K. Our results are consistent with this data point, but show a branching ratio that varies with temperature reaching 58% versus 42% at 10 K. We provide recommended rate coefficients for the two product channels for two cases, one where the initial fine-structure population of the O( 3 P J ) reactant is in its J = 2 ground state and the other one where it is in thermal equilibrium.

    The addition of tert -butyl hydroperoxide ( t BuOOH) to two structurally related Mn II complexes containing N,N -bis(6-methyl-2-pyridylmethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine (6-Me-DPEN) and N,N -bis(6-methyl-2-pyridylmethyl)propane-1,2-diamine (6-Me-DPPN) results in the formation of high-valent bis-oxo complexes, namely di-μ-oxido-bis{[ N , N -bis(6-methyl-2-pyridylmethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine]manganese(II)}( Mn — Mn ) bis(tetraphenylborate) dihydrate, [Mn(C 16 H 22 N 4 ) 2 O 2 ](C 24 H 20 B) 2 ·2H 2 O or {[Mn IV (N 4 (6-Me-DPEN))] 2 ( μ -O) 2 }(2BPh 4 )(2H 2 O) ( 1 ) and di-μ-oxido-bis{[ N , N -bis(6-methyl-2-pyridylmethyl)propane-1,3-diamine]manganese(II)}( Mn — Mn ) bis(tetraphenylborate) diethyl ether disolvate, [Mn(C 17 H 24 N 4 ) 2 O 2 ](C 24 H 20 B) 2 ·2C 4 H 10 O or {[Mn IV (N 4 (6-MeDPPN))] 2 ( μ -O) 2 }(2BPh 4 )(2Et 2 O) ( 2 ). Complexes 1 and 2 both contain the `diamond core' motif found previously in a number of iron, copper, and manganese high-valent bis-oxo compounds. The flexibility in the propyl linker in the ligand scaffold of 2 , as compared to that of the ethyl linker in 1 , results in more elongated Mn—N bonds, as one would expect. The Mn—Mn distances and Mn—O bond lengths support an Mn IV oxidation state assignment for the Mn ions in both 1 and 2 . The angles around the Mn centers are consistent with the local pseudo-octahedral geometry.

    N , N ′-Di- tert -butylcarbodiimide, Me 3 CN=C=NCMe 3 , undergoes reductive cleavage in the presence of the Gd II complex, [K(18-crown-6) 2 ][Gd II (N R 2 ) 3 ] ( R = SiMe 3 ), to form a new type of ligand, the tert -butylcyanamide anion, (Me 3 CNCN) − . This new ligand can bind metals with one or two donor atoms as demonstrated by the isolation of a single crystal containing potassium salts of both end-on and side-on bound tert -butylcyanamide anions, (Me 3 CNCN) − . The crystal contains [K(18-crown-6)(H 2 O)][NCNCMe 3 - kN ], in which one ( t BuNCN) − anion is coordinated end-on to potassium ligated by 18-crown-6 and water, as well as [K(18-crown-6)][η 2 -NCNCMe 3 ], in which an 18-crown-6 potassium is coordinated side-on to the terminal N—C linkage. This single crystal also contains one equivalent of 1,3-di- tert -butyl urea, (C 9 H 20 N 2 O), which is involved in hydrogen bonding that may stabilize the whole assembly, namely, aqua( tert -butylcyanamidato)(1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane)potassium(I)–( tert -butylcyanamidato)(1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane)potassium(I)– N , N ′-di- tert -butylcarbodiimide (1/1/1) [K(C 5 H 9 N 2 )(C 12 H 24 O 6 )]·[K(C 5 H 9 N 2 )(C 12 H 24 O 6 )(H 2 O)]·C 9 H 20 N 2 .

  5. We present a randomizedO(mlog2n) work,O(polylogn) depth parallel algorithm for minimum cut. This algorithm matches the work bounds of a recent sequential algorithm by Gawrychowski, Mozes, and Weimann [ICALP’20], and improves on the previously best parallel algorithm by Geissmann and Gianinazzi [SPAA’18], which performsO(mlog4n) work inO(polylogn) depth. Our algorithm makes use of three components that might be of independent interest. First, we design a parallel data structure that efficiently supports batched mixed queries and updates on trees. It generalizes and improves the work bounds of a previous data structure of Geissmann and Gianinazzi and is work efficient with respect to the best sequential algorithm. Second, we design a parallel algorithm for approximate minimum cut that improves on previous results by Karger and Motwani. We use this algorithm to give a work-efficient procedure to produce a tree packing, as in Karger’s sequential algorithm for minimum cuts. Last, we design an efficient parallel algorithm for solving the minimum 2-respecting cut problem.
