Abstract n ;1 ; HDATRz=3,5‐diamino‐1,2,4‐triazole, H2NH2‐BDC=2‐amino‐1,4‐benzenedicarboxylic acid, G=guest molecule) composed of two types of secondary building units (SBU) and channels of varying sizes was synthesized by employing a rational design mixed ligand synthesis approach. Free −NH2groups on both the ligands are immobilized onto the pore surface of the MOF which acts as a superior luminescent sensor for turn‐on Al(III) detection. Furthermore, the large channels could allow the counter‐ions to pass through and get exchanged to selectively detect Al(III) in presence of other seventeen metal ions with magnificent luminescence enhancement. The observed limit of detection is as low as 17.5 ppb, which is the lowest among the MOF‐based sensors achieved so far. To make this detection approach simple, portable and economic, we demonstrate MOF filter paper test for real time naked eye observation. -
Stoichiometric reduction reactions of two metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) by the solution reagents (M = Cr, Co) are described. The two MOFs contain clusters with Ti 8 O 8 rings: Ti 8 O 8 (OH) 4 (bdc) 6 ; bdc = terephthalate (MIL-125) and Ti 8 O 8 (OH) 4 (bdc-NH 2 ) 6 ; bdc-NH 2 = 2-aminoterephthalate (NH 2 -MIL-125). The stoichiometry of the redox reactions was probed using solution NMR methods. The extent of reduction is greatly enhanced by the presence of Na + , which is incorporated into the bulk of the material. The roughly 1 : 1 stoichiometry of electrons and cations indicates that the storage of e − in the MOF is tightly coupled to a cation within the architecture, for charge balance.more » « less

Recently, metal–organic framework (MOF)-based polymeric substrates show promising performance in many engineering and technology fields. However, a commonly known drawback of MOF/polymer composites is MOF crystal encapsulation and reduced surface area. This work reports a facile and gentle strategy to produce self-supported MOF predominant hollow fiber mats. A wide range of hollow MOFs including MIL-53(Al)–NH 2 , Al-PMOF, and ZIF-8 are successfully fabricated by our synthetic method. The synthetic strategy combines atomic layer deposition (ALD) of metal oxides onto polymer fibers and subsequent selective removal of polymer components followed by conversion of remaining hollow metal oxides into freestanding MOF predominant hollow fiber structures. The hollow MOFs show boosted surface area, superb porosity, and excellent pore accessibility, and exhibit a significantly improved performance in CO 2 adsorption (3.30 mmol g −1 ), CO 2 /N 2 separation selectivity (24.9 and 21.2 for 15/85 and 50/50 CO 2 /N 2 mixtures), and catalytic removal of HCHO (complete oxidation of 150 ppm within 60 min).more » « less

Abstract Lactic acid is a renewable and versatile chemical for food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and other chemicals. Lactic acid can be produced from biomass‐derived dihydroxyacetone. However, selective and recyclable water‐tolerant acid catalysts need to be developed for the specific production of lactic acid. Here we show that the MIL‐101(Al)−NH2metal‐organic framework (MOF) is a water‐tolerant and selective solid Lewis acid catalyst for dihydroxyacetone isomerization to lactic acid. The Lewis acidic MIL‐101(Al)−NH2catalyst promoted a high lactic acid selectivity of 91 % at 96 % dihydroxyacetone conversion at 120 °C in water. The reaction proceeded by temperature and/or MIL‐101(Al)−NH2MOFs mediated dihydroxyacetone dehydration to pyruvaldehyde. Subsequently, the MIL‐101(Al)−NH2facilitated rehydration of the pyruvaldehyde to lactic acid. The Lewis acidic MIL‐101(Al)−NH2catalyst was stable and reusable four times without any decrease in catalytic performance.

Abstract It has been rarely reported the morphological control of derivatives of metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) in hydrothermal conditions for photocatalytic applications. We report here a family of highly efficient composite photocatalysts composed of terephthalic acid/terephthalate (TPA) ligand and TiO2with various morphologies (e. g., nanoparticles, nanosheets, and nanorods). The composites are synthesized by a simple one‐step hydrothermal method in various solvents (i. e., H2O, HF, H2SO4, HCl, and HNO3) using Ti‐based MOF (MIL‐125(Ti)) as precursor. The formation mechanism of composite materials with different morphological features is discussed. Impressively, the composite of TiO2nanoparticles/TPA synthesized using H2O as solvent under hydrothermal condition exhibits the highest photocatalytic H2activity among the studied materials, with a photocatalytic H2production rate of 6.38 mmol g−1 h−1, which is approximately 7.5‐fold higher than pure TiO2(Degussa, P25) and prominent apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of 65 % at 365 nm. Furthermore, the mechanism of boosted photocatalytic H2production is discussed.
