MXenes constitute a rapidly growing family of 2D materials that are promising for optoelectronic applications because of numerous attractive properties, including high electrical conductivity. However, the most widely used titanium carbide (Ti3C2T
MXenes, a new class of 2D transition metal carbides and carbonitrides, show great promise in supercapacitors, Li‐ion batteries, fuel cells, and sensor applications. A unique combination of their metallic conductivity, hydrophilic surface, and excellent mechanical properties renders them attractive for transparent conductive electrode application. Here, a simple, scalable method is proposed to fabricate transparent conductive thin films using delaminated Ti3C2MXene flakes by spray coating. Homogenous films, 5–70 nm thick, are produced at ambient conditions over a large area as shown by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The sheet resistances (

Abstract x ) MXene transparent conductive electrode exhibits insufficient environmental stability and work function (WF ), which impede practical applications Ti3C2Tx electrodes in solution‐processed optoelectronics. Herein, Ti3C2Tx MXene film with a compact structure and a perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) barrier layer is presented as a promising electrode for organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). The electrode shows excellent environmental stability, highWF of 5.84 eV, and low sheet resistanceR Sof 97.4 Ω sq−1. The compact Ti3C2Tx structure after thermal annealing resists intercalation of moisture and environmental contaminants. In addition, the PFSA surface modification passivates interflake defects and modulates theWF . Thus, changes in theWF andR Sare negligible even after 22 days of exposure to ambient air. The Ti3C2Tx MXene is applied for large‐area, 10 × 10 passive matrix flexible OLEDs on substrates measuring 6 × 6 cm. This work provides a simple but efficient strategy to overcome both the limited environmental stability and lowWF of MXene electrodes for solution‐processable optoelectronics. -
Abstract The hafnate perovskites PbHfO3(antiferroelectric) and SrHfO3(“potential” ferroelectric) are studied as epitaxial thin films on SrTiO3(001) substrates with the added opportunity of observing a morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) in the Pb1−
x Srx HfO3system. The resulting (240)‐oriented PbHfO3(Pba 2) films exhibited antiferroelectric switching with a saturation polarization ≈53 µC cm−2at 1.6 MV cm−1, weak‐field dielectric constant ≈186 at 298 K, and an antiferroelectric‐to‐paraelectric phase transition at ≈518 K. (002)‐oriented SrHfO3films exhibited neither ferroelectric behavior nor evidence of a polarP 4mm phase . Instead, the SrHfO3films exhibited a weak‐field dielectric constant ≈25 at 298 K and no signs of a structural transition to a polar phase as a function of temperature (77–623 K) and electric field (–3 to 3 MV cm−1). While the lack of ferroelectric order in SrHfO3removes the potential for MPB, structural and property evolution of the Pb1−x Srx HfO3(0 ≤x < 1) system is explored. Strontium alloying increased the electric‐breakdown strength (E B) and decreased hysteresis loss, thus enhancing the capacitive energy storage density (U r) and efficiency (η). The composition, Pb0.5Sr0.5HfO3produced the best combination ofE B = 5.12 ± 0.5 MV cm−1,U r = 77 ± 5 J cm−3, and η = 97 ± 2%, well out‐performing PbHfO3and other antiferroelectric oxides. -
Abstract 2D carbides and nitrides (MXenes) are widely recognized for their exceptional promise for numerous applications. However, physical property measurements of their individual monolayers remain very limited despite their importance for revealing the intrinsic physical properties of MXenes. The first mechanical and electrical measurements of individual single‐layer flakes of Nb4C3T
x MXene, which are prepared via an improved synthetic method are reported. Characterization of field‐effect transistor devices based on individual single‐layer Nb4C3Tx flakes shows an electrical conductivity of 1024 ± 165 S cm−1, which is two orders of magnitude higher than the previously reported values for bulk Nb4C3Tx assemblies, and an electron mobility of 0.41 ± 0.27 cm2V−1s−1. Atomic force microscopy nanoindentation measurements of monolayer Nb4C3Tx membranes yield an effective Young's modulus of 386 ± 13 GPa, assuming a membrane thickness of 1.26 nm. This is the highest value reported for nanoindentation measurements of solution‐processable 2D materials, revealing the potential of Nb4C3Tx as a primary component for various mechanical applications. Finally, the agreement between the mechanical properties of 2D Nb4C3Tx MXene and cubic NbC suggests that the extensive experimental data on bulk carbides could be useful for identifying new MXenes with improved functional characteristics. -
Abstract Si‐based anodes with a stiff diamond structure usually suffer from sluggish lithiation/delithiation reaction due to low Li‐ion and electronic conductivity. Here, a novel ternary compound ZnSi2P3with a cation‐disordered sphalerite structure, prepared by a facile mechanochemical method, is reported, demonstrating faster Li‐ion and electron transport and greater tolerance to volume change during cycling than the existing Si‐based anodes. A composite electrode consisting of ZnSi2P3and carbon achieves a high initial Coulombic efficiency (92%) and excellent rate capability (950 mAh g−1at 10 A g−1) while maintaining superior cycling stability (1955 mAh g−1after 500 cycles at 300 mA g−1), surpassing the performance of most Si‐ and P‐based anodes ever reported. The remarkable electrochemical performance is attributed to the sphalerite structure that allows fast ion and electron transport and the reversible Li‐storage mechanism involving intercalation and conversion reactions. Moreover, the cation‐disordered sphalerite structure is flexible to ionic substitutions, allowing extension to a family of Zn(Cu)Si2+
x P3solid solution anodes (x = 0, 2, 5, 10) with large capacity, high initial Coulombic efficiency, and tunable working potentials, representing attractive anode candidates for next‐generation, high‐performance, and low‐cost Li‐ion batteries. -
Abstract Lightweight, flexible, and electrically conductive thin films with high electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness are highly desirable for next‐generation portable and wearable electronic devices. Here, spin spray layer‐by‐layer (SSLbL) to rapidly assemble Ti3C2T
x MXene‐carbon nanotube (CNT) composite films is shown and their potential for EMI shielding is demonstrated. The SSLbL technique allows strategic combinations of nanostructured materials and polymers providing a rich platform for developing hierarchical architectures with desirable cross‐functionalities including controllable transparency, thickness, and conductivity, as well as high stability and flexibility. These semi‐transparent LbL MXene‐CNT composite films show high conductivities up to 130 S cm−1and high specific shielding effectiveness up to 58 187 dB cm2g−1, which is attributed to both the excellent electrical conductivity of the conductive fillers (i.e., MXene and CNT) and the enhanced absorption with the LbL architecture of the films. Remarkably, these values are among the highest reported values for flexible and semi‐transparent composite thin films. This work could offer new solutions for next‐generation EMI shielding challenges.
