Optimizing Scan Times of BLE Scanning Systems
In thispaper,wepresentadetailedanalysisofBlue- toothLowEnergy-basedscanningsystemswhereintheobjective istosuccessfullyscanallitemsofagroupofaprescribedsize within aprescribedscanningperiodataprescribedprobability ofsuccess,forexample,lessthanonefailureinonemillion.We showthatadesignbaseduponindependenceamongcollision eventsfailstoachievethetargetreliabilityobjectivesbyroughly an orderofmagnitude.Ouranalysis,whichisverifiedthrough extensivesimulation,showsthatcorrelationamongthecollision eventshasamajorimpactuponthescanningtimerequiredto successfullyscanallthemembersofagroup.
