A bstract The first full angular analysis of the $$ {B}^0\to {D}^{\ast -}{D}_s^{\ast +} $$ B 0 → D ∗ − D s ∗ + decay is performed using 6 fb − 1 of pp collision data collected with the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The $$ {D}_s^{\ast +}\to {D}_s^{+}\gamma $$ D s ∗ + → D s + γ and D * − → $$ {\overline{D}}^0{\pi}^{-} $$ D ¯ 0 π − vector meson decays are used with the subsequent $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ D s + → K + K − π + and $$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ D ¯ 0 → K + π − decays. All helicity amplitudes and phases are measured, and the longitudinal polarisation fraction is determined to be f L = 0 . 578 ± 0 . 010 ± 0 . 011 with world-best precision, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The pattern of helicity amplitude magnitudes is found to align with expectations from quark-helicity conservation in B decays. The ratio of branching fractions [ℬ( $$ {B}^0\to {D}^{\ast -}{D}_s^{\ast +} $$ B 0 → D ∗ − D s ∗ + ) × ℬ( $$ {D}_s^{\ast +}\to {D}_s^{+}\gamma $$ D s ∗ + → D s + γ )] / ℬ( B 0 → D * − $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ D s + ) is measured to be 2 . 045 ± 0 . 022 ± 0 . 071 with world-best precision. In addition, the first observation of the Cabibbo-suppressed B s → D * − $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ D s + decay is made with a significance of seven standard deviations. The branching fraction ratio ℬ( B s → D * − $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ D s + ) / ℬ( B 0 → D * − $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ D s + ) is measured to be 0 . 049 ± 0 . 006 ± 0 . 003 ± 0 . 002, where the third uncertainty is due to limited knowledge of the ratio of fragmentation fractions.

Charmless B → PPP decays: The fully antisymmetric final state
Under flavor SU(3) symmetry (SU(3)_F), the final-state particles in B → PPP decays (P is a pseudoscalar meson) are treated as identical, and the PPP must be in a fully-symmetric(FS) state, a fully-antisymmetric (FA) state, or in one of four mixed states. In this paper, we present the formalism for the FA states. We write the amplitudes for the 22 B → PPP decays that can be in an FA state in terms of both the SU(3)_F reduced matrix elements and diagrams. This shows the equivalence of diagrams and SU(3)_F. We also give 15 relations among the amplitudes in the SU(3)_F limit as well as the additional four that appear when the diagrams E/A/PA are neglected. We present sets of B → PPP decays that can be used to extract γ using the FA amplitudes. The value(s) of γ found in this way can be compared with the value(s) found using the FS states.

Linearly dispersing Rarita-Schwinger-Weyl (RSW) fermions featuring two Fermi velocities are the key constituents of itinerant spin-3/2 quantum materials. When doped, RSW metals sustain two Fermi surfaces (FSs), around which one fully gapped s wave and five mixed-parity local pairings can take place. The intraband components of four mixed-parity pairings support point nodes at the poles of two FSs, only around which long-lived quasiparticles live. For weak (strong) pairing amplitudes (Δ), gapless north and south poles belonging to the same (different) FS(s) get connected by polar hairs, one-dimensional line nodes occupying the region between two FSs. The remaining one, by contrast, supports four nodal rings in between two FSs, symmetrically placed about their equators, but only when Δ is small. For large Δ, this paired state becomes fully gapped. The transition temperature and pairing amplitudes follow the BCS scaling. We explicitly showcase these outcomes for a rotationally symmetric RSW metal and contrast our findings when the system possesses an enlarged Lorentz symmetry and with those in spin-3/2 Luttinger materials.more » « less

null (Ed.)A bstract Model-independent description of nonleptonic decays of charmed mesons is a challenging task due to large nonperturbative effects of strong interactions on the transition amplitudes. We discuss the equivalence of two different flavor-SU(3)-based descriptions of Cabibbo-favored non-leptonic decays of charmed mesons to two-pseudoscalars final states including the η and η ′ mesons.more » « less

Recently, decays ( , ) were analyzed under the assumption of flavor SU(3) symmetry ( ). Although the individual fits to or decays are good, it was found that the combined fit is very poor: there is a disagreement with the limit of the standard model ( ). One can remove this discrepancy by adding -breaking effects, but 1000% breaking is required. In this paper, we extend this analysis to include decays in which there is an and/or meson in the final state. We now find that the combined fit exhibits a discrepancy with the , and 1000% -breaking effects are still required to explain the data. These results are rigorous, group-theoretically—no theoretical assumptions have been made. But when one adds some theoretical input motivated by QCD factorization, the discrepancy with the grows to .more » « less

A bstract A data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb − 1 of proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment has been analysed to search for $$ {B}_c^{+}\to {D}_{(s)}^{\left(\ast \right)+}{\genfrac{}{}{0pt}{}{\left(\hbox{---} \right)}{D}}^{\left(\ast \right)0} $$ B c + → D s ∗ + — D ∗ 0 decays. The decays are fully or partially reconstructed, where one or two missing neutral pions or photons from the decay of an excited charm meson are allowed. Upper limits for the branching fractions, normalised to B + decays to final states with similar topologies, are obtained for sixteen $$ {B}_c^{+} $$ B c + decay modes. For the decay $$ {B}_c^{+}\to {D}_s^{+}{\overline{D}}^0 $$ B c + → D s + D ¯ 0 , an excess with a significance of 3.4 standard deviations is found.more » « less
