A<sc>bstract</sc> Results are presented from a search for the Higgs boson decay H→Zγ, where Z→ ℓ+ℓ−withℓ= e or μ. The search is performed using a sample of proton-proton (pp) collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1. Events are assigned to mutually exclusive categories, which exploit differences in both event topology and kinematics of distinct Higgs production mechanisms to enhance signal sensitivity. The signal strengthμ, defined as the product of the cross section and the branching fraction$$ \left[\sigma \left(\textrm{pp}\to \textrm{H}\right)\mathcal{B}\left(\textrm{H}\to \textrm{Z}\upgamma \right)\right] $$ relative to the standard model prediction, is extracted from a simultaneous fit to theℓ+ℓ−γ invariant mass distributions in all categories and is measured to beμ= 2.4 ± 0.9 for a Higgs boson mass of 125.38 GeV. The statistical significance of the observed excess of events is 2.7 standard deviations. This measurement corresponds to$$ \left[\sigma \left(\textrm{pp}\to \textrm{H}\right)\mathcal{B}\left(\textrm{H}\to \textrm{Z}\upgamma \right)\right]=0.21\pm 0.08 $$ pb. The observed (expected) upper limit at 95% confidence level onμis 4.1 (1.8), where the expected limit is calculated under the background-only hypothesis. The ratio of branching fractions$$ \mathcal{B}\left(\textrm{H}\to \textrm{Z}\upgamma \right)/\mathcal{B}\left(\textrm{H}\to \upgamma \upgamma \right) $$ is measured to be$$ {1.5}_{-0.6}^{+0.7} $$ , which agrees with the standard model prediction of 0.69 ± 0.04 at the 1.5 standard deviation level.

The Sloan Digital Sky Survey Reverberation Mapping Project: Key Results
Abstract We present the final data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Reverberation Mapping (RM) project, a precursor to the SDSS-V Black Hole Mapper RM program. This data set includes 11 yr photometric and 7 yr spectroscopic light curves for 849 broad-line quasars over a redshift range of 0.1 <z< 4.5 and a luminosity range ofLbol= 1044−47.5erg s−1, along with spectral and variability measurements. We report 23, 81, 125, and 110 RM lags (relative to optical continuum variability) for broad Hα, Hβ, Mgii, and Civusing the SDSS-RM sample, spanning much of the luminosity and redshift ranges of the sample. Using 30 low-redshift RM active galactic nuclei with dynamical-modeling black hole masses, we derive a new estimate of the average virial factor of for the line dispersion measured from the rms spectrum. The intrinsic scatter of individual virial factors is 0.31 ± 0.07 dex, indicating a factor of 2 systematic uncertainty in RM black hole masses. Our lag measurements reveal significantR–Lrelations for Hβand Mgiiat high redshift, consistent with the latest measurements based on heterogeneous samples. While we are unable to robustly constrain the slope of theR–Lrelation for Civgiven the limited dynamic range in luminosity, we found substantially larger scatter in Civlags at fixedL1350. Using the SDSS-RM lag sample, we derive improved single-epoch (SE) mass recipes for Hβ, Mgii, and Civ, which are consistent with their respective RM masses as well as between the SE recipes from two different lines, over the luminosity range probed by our sample. The new Hβand Mgiirecipes are approximately unbiased estimators at given RM masses, but there are systematic biases in the Civrecipe. The intrinsic scatter of SE masses around RM masses is ∼0.45 dex for Hβand Mgii, increasing to ∼0.58 dex for Civ.

A<sc>bstract</sc> A search for the decay$$ {B}_c^{+} $$ → χc1(3872)π+is reported using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018 at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. No significant signal is observed. Abstract We present an analytic model for the cool,T∼ 104K, circumgalactic medium (CGM), describing the gas distribution, and thermal and ionization states. Our model assumes (total) pressure equilibrium with the ambient warm/hot CGM, photoionization by the metagalactic radiation, and allows for nonthermal pressure support, parameterized by the ratio of thermal pressures,η=Phot,th/Pcool,th. We apply the model to the COS-Halos measurements and find that a nominal model withη= 3, gas distribution out tor≈ 0.6Rvir, andMcool= 3 × 109M⊙, corresponding to a volume filling fraction offV,cool≈ 1%, reproduces the Hiand low/intermediate metal ions (Cii, Ciii, Siii, Siiii, and Mgii) mean column densities. Variation of ±0.5 dex inηorMcoolencompasses ∼2/3 of the scatter between objects. Our nominal model underproduces the measured Civand Siivcolumns, and these can be reproduced with (i) a cool phase withMcool∼ 1010M⊙andη≈ 5, or (ii) cooling or mixing gas at intermediate temperatures, withM∼ 1.5 × 1010M⊙and occupying ∼1/2 of the total CGM volume. For cool gas withfV,cool≈ 1%, we estimate an upper limit on the cloud sizes,Rcl≲ 0.5 kpc. Our results suggest that for the average galaxy CGM, the mass and nonthermal support in the cool phase are lower than previously estimated, and extreme scenarios are not necessary. We estimate the rates of cool gas depletion and replenishment, and find accretion onto the galaxy can be offset, allowing over long timescales.more » « less

A<sc>bstract</sc> A time-dependent, flavour-tagged measurement ofCPviolation is performed withB0→ D+D−and$$ {B}_s^0 $$ →$$ {D}_s^{+}{D}_s^{-} $$ decays, using data collected by the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb−1. InB0→ D+D−decays theCP-violation parameters are measured to be$$ {\displaystyle \begin{array}{c}{S}_{D^{+}{D}^{-}}=-0.552\pm 0.100\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.010\left(\textrm{syst}\right),\\ {}{C}_{D^{+}{D}^{-}}=0.128\pm 0.103\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.010\left(\textrm{syst}\right).\end{array}} $$ In$$ {B}_s^0 $$ →$$ {D}_s^{+}{D}_s^{-} $$ decays theCP-violating parameter formulation in terms ofϕsand|λ|results in$$ {\displaystyle \begin{array}{c}{\phi}_s=-0.086\pm 0.106\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.028\left(\textrm{syst}\right)\textrm{rad},\\ {}\mid {\lambda}_{D_s^{+}{D}_s^{-}}\mid =1.145\pm 0.126\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.031\left(\textrm{syst}\right).\end{array}} $$ These results represent the most precise single measurement of theCP-violation parameters in their respective channels. For the first time in a single measurement,CPsymmetry is observed to be violated inB0→ D+D−decays with a significance exceeding six standard deviations.more » « less

A<sc>bstract</sc> A search for the fully reconstructed$$ {B}_s^0 $$ → μ+μ−γdecay is performed at the LHCb experiment using proton-proton collisions at$$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1. No significant signal is found and upper limits on the branching fraction in intervals of the dimuon mass are set$$ {\displaystyle \begin{array}{cc}\mathcal{B}\left({B}_s^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\gamma \right)<4.2\times {10}^{-8},& m\left({\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)\in \left[2{m}_{\mu },1.70\right]\textrm{GeV}/{c}^2,\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({B}_s^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\gamma \right)<7.7\times {10}^{-8},&\ m\left({\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)\in \left[\textrm{1.70,2.88}\right]\textrm{GeV}/{c}^2,\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({B}_s^0\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\gamma \right)<4.2\times {10}^{-8},& m\left({\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)\in \left[3.92,{m}_{B_s^0}\right]\textrm{GeV}/{c}^2,\end{array}} $$ at 95% confidence level.
