Title: PERICALLEA KATHERINA, A NEW CICADA GENUS AND SPECIES FROM WESTERN AUSTRALIA (HEMIPTERA: CICADIDAE: CICADETTINI)
A new genus, Pericallea gen. n., is described to accommodate the new species Pericallea katherina sp. n., a species endemic to inland districts of south-western Western Australia. Relationships of the new genus are discussed, and the male calling song of the new species is described and analysed.  more » « less

The millipede genus Striaria Bollman, 1888 heretofore had been thought to be confined to the Appalachian region of eastern North America, is replaced in western North America by species of the genus Amplaria Chamberlin, 1941. Collections from northern Idaho show that this is not the case, and that at least four species of Striaria occur in the west. These species are described herein as Striaria aculeata n. sp., S. bombillus n. sp., S. vagabundus n. sp. and S. orator n. sp.

  2. The single described species of Jassopsaltria, J. rufifacies Ashton is re-described, four new species of Jassopsaltria Ashton, 1914 are described from Western Australia (J. aeroides sp. n., J. cinnamomea sp. n., J. minilyaensis sp. n., J. gracilens sp. n.) and one new species is described from the Northern Territory (J. danielsorum sp. n.). A key is provided to the six known species, and the male calling songs of all Western Australian species are presented.

  3. The genus Chilecicada Sanborn, 2014 is shown to be a complex of closely related species rather than a monospecific genus. Chilecicada citatatemporaria Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. culenesensis Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. curacaviensis Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. impartemporaria Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. magna Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. mapuchensis Sanborn n. sp., C. oraria Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. parrajaraorum Sanborn n. sp., C. partemporaria Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. pehuenchesensis Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. trifascia Sanborn n. sp., C. trifasciunca Sanborn & Cole n. sp., and C. viridicitata Sanborn & Cole n. sp. are described as new. Chilecicada occidentis Walker, 1850 is re-described to facilitate separation of the new species from the only previously known species. Song and cytochrome oxidase I analysis available for most species support the separation of the new taxa from the type species of the genus. Known species distributions and a key to the species of the genus are also provided. The new species increases the known cicada diversity 61.9% to 34 species, 91.2% of which are endemic to Chile.

The Neotropical microhylid genus Synapturanus was represented by only three species for almost five decades and remains poorly known. Recently two new species were described from the Eastern Guyana Shield, one from Peru, and one from Brazil. We describe three new species related to the S. rabus species complex with known distribution only in western Amazonia, Colombia. The S. rabus complex consists of the smallest species in the genus; one of the new species is slightly larger than S. rabus and we describe its full osteology; the other two new species are smaller than S. rabus. Wealso described the call and larvae of one of the new species. We provide an updated diagnosis and review the available molecular and phenotypic data for the genus.

  5. Two new species of the genus Putaoa Hormiga and Tu, 2008 from southern China are described, Putaoa annulata n. sp. (♂♀) and Putaoa titanoverpa n. sp. (♂♀), for a total number of five described species in this genus. Detailed descriptions and illustrations of the two new species are provided. A map of collecting localities is also provided for all five Putaoa species.
